Illinois - Ohio State game open thread (and any other games from here on in)

Either the Illini have been way over-rated, or the Buckeyes are starting to show some life. Brandon Herron being back seems to be making a difference, too.

They have ZERO yards passing and they are in the 4th quarter and WINNING!   There O and D lines look impressive.    We need to keep improving in the trenches and get Denard going if we are going to win the rivalry game.

Keep working!

else ready to re-evaluate the Nov. 26th showdown?  Ohio has displayed incredible resiliency in coming back from offensive ineptness vs. Miami and MSU and the massive choke vs. Huskers.

I don't feel good about it at all.  Thinking about posting my tickets on Stubhub, I seriously don't think I could mentally deal with seeing THIS osu team leave the Big House with another win, after the scandal and everything.  The only thing that worries me more than the game is how my psyche would react after witnessing a loss in person, it would be absolutely devastating.

Going to watch Oregon-ASU tonight and sigh forlornly at what could have been for us...then I'm just going to drink and cry with 'Slippin' by DMX playing on repeat.

I'm not watching this game but every time I turn to check out the score, the Buckeyes are even further ahead! What the...

The Illini must not be that good. They're at home, they barely beat Northwestern...well at least they better not be that good, I've been fantasizing about a Buckeye beatdown in November for a few weeks now.

I can understand Zook's decision.  Getting the TD is the tougher of the two scores, and requires more time.  If you kick the FG and then recover the onside kick, you've got to go about 60 yards in a minute.  If you can get the TD there, then you only need to gain 30-40 yards on your next possession.  I don't think it's nearly the obvious call the announcers made it out to be.

I think this is a case where the conventional wisdom ("take the points") can be foolhardy.

In this situation, you've got to score a TD at some point.  Attempting a field goal just delays the inevitable.  If you're Illinois, you might not drive that deep in OSU territory again, so you may as well try to get the TD on that possession.  The key: It's much easier to get in FG range than it is to actually score a TD, so you may as well put off the easier score (the FG) until later.

All that's left now in the B1G that's undefeated in Wisconsin.  And I ope they take Dantonio to the woodshed next week.

Although, their defense scares me, because I think their D is better than Sparty's.  However, I don't know how much of Sparty's defensive swagger was from being jacked playing at home.  As long as we can contain Boom and Braxton, we should be able to win The Game.

But who cares about that right now?  Time to focus on Danny Hope and co.
