IL DT Jaleel Johnson Info

Submitted by LarryHarrison on

I'm not sure any of you are really familiar with Jaleel but he is a really impressive player. I have a friend out in IL who knows him and while we were talking this morning he told me that Jaleel really likes the Wolverines and they're one of his favorites. He is supposed to visit soon too. Here's his Combine film that is really impressive. Check it out. Btw, he absolutely owns Jordan Diamond.

The video of him dominating Jordan Diamond was impressive.  I think Jaleel has developed a solid following among those fans who saw that video under a Diamond post a week or so ago.

Johnson looks very strong in the legs. I hope we offer him, and am curious why we haven't yet, but I guess there is more to football than bull-rushing in a drill. Surely Hoke will offer if its worthy, and its looking good.

The game film doesn't jump off the screen at you but I think because it is a pretty amateur job. What no Lil Wayne soundtrack to the highlights? Also I don't think they knew what position he would be recruited at so the tape is a bit of a mix.

This kid has all the physical attributes you would want in a DT, he just needs coached up in some areas. His punch is amazing, the only thing I see is that he sometimes forgets to keep his legs moving.

But this drill is a defensive drill.  I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in how any offensive lineman looks during the drill besides footwork and initial punch.   Johnson does appear to be a very physical player with an excellent bullrush.

its a DT/DE prospect 1 on 1 versus a OT prospect...

This is exactly the situation you get when you go 5 v 4 on a shotgun formation with teh RB going into the flats..

Yeah, theres no pads. Yeah, theres no need to contain the run. Yeah, theres no OG help.

But on 3rd and 11, do you really think they DEs aren't simply gunning for the Q?
If I had Jaleel and Mike Martin on my side of the line to block, I think I know who I'd double team...

This drill shows that hes a monster. Great first quick step, great seperation, just simply overpowering.

Right.  It's a DT/DE drill in which the quarterback is a stationary dummy sitting about 4 yards deep.  And meanwhile, the defender isn't wearing shoulder pads or a jersey that can be latched onto, both of which offensive linemen are taught to grab when blocking (as long as they keep their hands inside the frame of the body).

The drill isn't useless.  But it's not exactly fair or conclusive, either.

Larry Harrison, really coming on strong w/ the recruiting info.  Glad to see you straightened things out after showing your genitals to a few lucky ladies.

Between you, TomVH and DGDestroys I am really enjoying the recruiting coverage. On another note, why in the heck are you getting negged for posting this? Seriously people. If you keep negging people who post this kind of information they may just stop sharing. This is ridiculously annoying.

This is definitely a kid to watch out for. I know the OP mentioned Michigan being one of his favorites, and it is one of his priorities to get up here.
