If you were negative recruiting against Ohio State today....what would you say?

Submitted by M-Dog on

Great post by Mgrowold, about negative recruiting against Michigan.

So, it got me thinking . . . If you were negative recruiting against Ohio State today....what would you say?  Should be a target-rich environment, no?

I know our coaches are above this.  But we're not.

I happened to experience this situation one afternoon from the coaching office...we lost a recruit when I was a senior because the kid was debating between UM and an SEC school...wasn't even really a neg as much as the coach said 'hey, UM has everything to offer, what could you possibly see in a school like _____? They can't even begin to touch what we have academically.' Recruit response " my dad is a ______ alum I think you just made the decision for me' (phone goes dead) coach says to me "and that is why you never bang another school when you are recruiting" moral of the story you never know when it may bite you

First you want us to tell you how to negatively recruit Michigan and then you want us to tell you how we would negatively recruit ohio........This should be obvious as there is one answer to everything, just crawl up the mountain to see the old one in the cave somewhere in asia, seek his advice.  From there just remember...............

This is Michigan fer godsakes

And if you remember that with anything you deal with,  B1G, The Game, Recruiting and admit defeat, you will be ok and your health much better.

Listen son, you can’t play football forever and at some point you may need to get another job. Michigan offers an internationally recognized degree, an Ohio degree is recognized at the International House of Pancakes.

And I would specifically mention how several of our prominent athletes went on to have successful careers in the media such as Desmond Howard, Jalen Rose (Sports Center), and Dhani Jones (various shows on the Travel Channel).

I guess there is also Herbstreit but a lot of these kids won't even remember this unless someone points it out to them.

You realize we have more right? You can't just brush off Kirk, he's the most famous color analyst in college football and potentially the most famous college football media personality currently. There's also Clark Kellog, as the lead NCAA basketball analyst for CBS, Jimmy Jackson as the lead BTN college basketball analyst. Both Robert Smith and Eddie George appear on ESPN. Average people don't know who Dhani Jones compared to everyone else on these lists.

As a transplanted yankee to the south I can safely say why they are called southern belles.  They start out as nice as the handle (like above), but then after you ring them, the sound really annoying and get as fat as the bells of St. Pauls cathedral.  Then they act like princesses who deserve everything they want...

The south has the fattest people in the country and after a few years, they all look hideous.  So keep your "girls".  I'll take the yankee women who at least attempt to keep themselves looking good AFTER you marry them.  :)

How do you get a southern bride into the honeymoon suite?  Grease the doorway and push like hell...  It's why there are so many people in a wedding party, because you're going to need help...

Bring up the fact that if you're looking at Meyer's previous coaching stops, chances are he's not going to be your coach as a senior.  I'm sure the same could be argued against Brady but the wildcard in the whole debate is the health issue.  There will be just as much if not more pressure on Urbs to win at Ohio than there was at Florida.  That said, it all builds up and it took only a few short years for it to catch up with Urbs down in Florida.

To expand o the health issue conversation and a related one (spending more time with his family now that his daughters were getting older and wanting to spend more time with them).  He lied to his own family.  There's no way he's spending more time with them now when he said he would.  If he can't tell the truth to his own family do you think he's telling some kid he's barely known the truth about what he should do with his life and how to lead it?

How about the fact that Urban quit on his last team twice in one year after faking an injury and lying about time with his family?

They are running a spread offense in Ohio and you would excell in more of a pro style offense.

Urban Meyer was'nt the same coach after he lost his assistants. It got so bad he quit on his team when he was not winning anymore. Is that the kind of coach you want to play for?

You'll have to play your home games in a shoe... have you ever smelled a shoe!?

Luke Fickel will be trying to sabotage Urban Meyer so he can say. "see Urban can't win with these losers either" and oh by the way "I quit"!

Ohio state fans will love you the same way they loved Heirbstreet out of town.

If I was a coach at Michigan, and was trying to negatively recruit, I'd just compare everything the one school has to Michigan, doesn't matter what school.  I wouldn't make it real negative, just more positive about Michigan.

Oh, you think OSU has good academics?  That's nice to hear!  Ours are better.

You enjoy Notre Dame's rich history?  That's cool!  Most wins highest win percentage here...

Oh you like the party atmosphere State has to offer?  Back in 97 when we won the national championship, Michigan was ranked top 10 party schools in the nation, and Ann Arbor is consistently rated one of the best cities for singles < age 29 to live.

You like Meyer's coaching accolades?  Hoke has won conference coach of the year in 3 of the past 4 years he's been coaching.  Greg Mattison?  Gorgeous Al Borges?  Done deal.

.... I might not keep it as positive for OSU all the time though

You think OSU has some coaching stability with Meyer?  You saw what happened at Florida.  He jumepd ship as soon as his team started to waiver, despite having phenominal recruiting classes, every year.  Said he wanted to spend more time with his family, and then became an analyst for CBS where he traveled to a different game every week, while his team went 6-6.  Oh, but he's a class act.

What?  Meyer told you he was recruiting ONLY you for quarterback?  There's another athlete in the class, his name is Tim Tebow, he's not being recruited as a linebacker.  Meyer is lying, here is Tebow's number.

Now I heard you're a big Michigan fan!  Wait...... what?  You've actually been an OSU fan your whole life, and Meyer is telling you to say you're a Michigan fan so the rest of the recruiting world will think Meyer is turning Michigan fans into OSU recruits, and hopefully everyone else will follow suit?!  That seems rather classless, don't you think?  Meyer is such a classy individual!

OSU is going to be a great place for you to develop as a football player AND a person?  Meyer had 6+arrests/year while he was coaching at Florida.  He is a model disciplinarian, and I'm sure you're going to be a better person for having attended OSU.  (But there's so much sarcasm in my voice, the recruit will know I'm being sarcastic)
