would you play Fitz in Dallas.
this may be of some local interest
would you play Fitz in Dallas.
I thought the exact same thing...guess Fitz playing or not is on alot of our minds.
There's a Debbie joke in here and I can't figure one out.
I love that someone asked this question...I think about it all the time...and it seems like it'd be "relatively " simple.
First things first, all intangibles aside, bottom line, college football success really is about 90% talent, i.e. recruiting. There are a lot of great coaching staffs at the highest level, and these staffs more or less cancel eachother out IMO. So recruiting is issue #1 to me.
...Put y ourself in the mind of an elite 5-star prospect. What's y our #1 concern in picking a school? Really , it's probably getting to the next level, the NFL. So, let's put together a program that has an advantage over all others in that regard. IMO, in college football, there's no money better spent than money spent on assistant coaches. The first thing I'm doing is stealing a top notch NFL strength and conditioning staff. The second thing I'm doing is stealing a top notch NFL offensive and defensive coordinator. The third thing I'm doing is filling out the rest of my staff with NFL position coaches (and preferably coaches with NFL play ing experience at those positions).
...Put y ourself back in the mind of an elite 5-star prospect - or in that of his parent's - what's y our #2 concern in picking a school? Really , it's probably having a good job if football doesn't work out for y ou. So, let's put together an unrivaled - borderline illegal - sy stem of cooperative, successful alumni. Let's make sure these guy s are getting great jobs after football if football doesn't work out. Instead of asking these ubber successful alumni to make multi-million dollar contributions to the program, let's simply ask them to give some of these great men jobs after football. In the end, it's probably actually a lot cheaper for the alums.
...So now what's our angle? Y our a 5-star QB prospect. Y ou're going to be trained by a top notch NFL strength and conditioning staff here. Y ou're going to be play ing in a top notch NFL offensive coordinator's sy stem. Y ou're going to be coached by a former NFL QB coach, who play ed QB in the NFL too. Is there another school that's going to give y ou a better chance of making it to the next level than that? And is there any thing more important to y ou? And if football doesn't work out for y ou're going to be guaranteed a great job. That's some pitch. That's going to bring in some incredible talent. And that's 90% of winning in this game. That's how I'm setting up my program. y o

If I were Michigans head coach that would make me Brady Hoke, because he is our head coach.
Shit guys, this board just got even better
"Mods: If this is stupid delete it please."
I don't understand this. It's like explaining a joke to somebody. If the joke isn't funny, it isn't funny. If the mods want to delete your thread, they'll delete your thread.
I don't think the mods usually delete for sheer stupidity (though, you could argue that offensive/too OT/redundant threads are inherently stupid). I think that's usually policed by the community with negging. If he would've written, "Mods: if this is offensive delete it please," then I would agree.
I have a sort of similar pet peeve. It feels like half of all threads these days begin with "It's a slow day/weekend/whatever, so I figured this might be..." This isn't going to convince any of the potential thread bashers to stop, so just get to the point.
Related, it's kind of depressing that the community here is such that people feel the need to preemptively apologize whenever they post something for discussion.
1. Not this year
2. Not this year
5. Meh. Could go either way
6. Balanced spread/pro
Coordinators: The ones we got, yo
Never ever would my team wear non winged helmets.. too bad adidas may decide to make a trainwreck alternate, a la Notre Dames new rags
I hate using rags.
I hate using condoms.
If I were Michigan's coach:
Nobody on this year's defense would wear #2.
Nobody on this year's offense would wear #1.
There would be no extra helmet stickers and/or numbers.
There would be no alternate uniforms but we would go back to Nike with the painted on numbers from the (1995-2004) era.
We would run Al Borges' offense with the exact same coaching staff we have right now.
And tell Brandon to hire Brady Hoke.
1-2. For the first and second questions, do you mean ever or for this season? Ever, possibly. This season, I don’t think anyone’s proven they’re worthy of it yet.
4. Don’t know how much of this the coach can control. If I could stop it, then never.
6. Pistol offense that uses a bunch of option/zone reads.
7. Anyone I want?
OC: Chris Ault
DC: Greg Mattison
If it were possible, I'd keep the entire defensive staff but get Rodriguez as the offensive coordinator. As much as I like Borges, the spread under Rodriguez was so much fun to watch and with the success of Denard and the Hoke recruiting pitch the players coming in would be tremendous. Mattison defense + RR offense would be awesome. Just imagine the scores we could put up with a quick scoring offense and lots of 3 and outs by the defense.
You can't be serious! Our time-of-possession stats would be horrible with a quick-strike offense!
Seriously, some people here seem to believe that a pound-the-rock/ball-control offense means that you'll ALWAYS be able to run 10-15 plays on a drive.
The defense would definitely give up more points considering the offense can score so quickly(hence more possesions), but I don't think it would be disproportionate.
But I think that's BS saying a team practiciing against the spread wouldn't be able to stop the Wisconsin run game. Does that mean in 2 years when Michigan is running more of a west coast offense they won't be able to stop a spread team? So then the Michigan/OSU game would be two teams that can't stop each other because they practice against different types of offenses?
Urban Meyer's defense at Florida was pretty good if I remember correctly. Also, Greg Mattison was co-defensive coordinator under Meyer for a while, if that means anything. I think it has more to do with tempo then how you line up your offense.
I covered that though: "I think it has more to do with tempo then how you line up your offense."
You said any offense running the spread would be unable to stop Wisconsin's run game. You didn't limit that statement to up tempo spread offenses.
*Edit: Read your comment wrong the first time around. My apologies.
"Yes, in theory it would be great to score 50 points a game and give up just 10, but things don't work out like that in reality."
Nebraska and FSU circa the 1990's would like to have a word with you.
Would anyone on defense get #2? Not this year, would consider using it as a recruiting tool in that a hot shot five start DB recruiter would get it.
Same goes for the #1 on offense? Same as #2
Helmet stickers? Yes? No? No, don't like them too high school
Alternate jerseys? Only away games, actually wouldn't mind maize on the road.
Helmet numbers? Probably not, but I did get used to them last year. If I had them, probably would want to make sure that the colors matched.
What kind of offense would you run? Pro/west coast
To add on to that, who would be your coordinators? Same ones we have now.
Call me crazy but Rodriguez would be a good one. Yes his defenses were horrible when he was HC but he could expose a defense and go after the weak spots on offense like we've never had before him.
a mixture of everything with plenty of runs up the middle
6: Wishbone, Pro-set, Flex offense
7. Franklin Carl, and Tommy Landau, two fictitious dudes who I just made up who will be considered #1 at their job, and do it for the team, not the contract. We win 10 consecutive national championships.
Would anyone on defense get #2? No
Same goes for the #1 on offense? No
Helmet stickers? Yes? No? No
Alternate jerseys? Maize would be cool
Helmet numbers? Only if players wanted them
What kind of offense would you run? pro style
To add on to that, who would be your coordinators? Oc: Borges, scot loeffler, hate to say it rr. Dc: Mattison or bring back Ron English
With RR as a coordinator? You might bring back Ron English? You'd implement maize jerseys?
I know this is just a fun exercise, but wow - was this post a joke?
If I was the coach Mgoblog would be full of posts about how terrible I am and there would be a firechobee215.com
I like the look of the helmet without them.
Just my personal opinions...
1. Yes AVERY
2. Not right now...I'm rooting for Darboh
3. Yes. For VERY special achievements.
4. NEVER. Don't F with the best JERSEYS in CFB
5. I am not against them
6. Superior talent and coordination to impose our will regardless of situation.
6. One Back or West Coast...something resembling PRO style
7. Obviously GMATT and Borges...and I would have Scarlett Johansson coordinate office activities.
Has played well but not #2 well that's gonna go to countess next yr
just seems like Avery has had so many memorable plays for a nickel
Countess seems the likely choice...I admit
Richardson, Lewis, Conley, Ross, and Stribling all should be greats as well.
Kate upton or Stacey kiebler for office coordinator
Scarlett Johanson is amazingly beautiful.
2. NO, I would ban that number.
3. Nope, but I would bring back the helmet numbers
4. Depending, on the decision of a carefully selected committee of alumni, fans, fashion experts, former players, President Obama, and Neil Patrick Harris
6. Super duper secret offense that nobody can figure out. We would score 150 pts per game
7. Mike Ditka and Bill Parcel
I love most of your answer for #4. NPH really would be a great advisor for the program...
Expert on the new uni's was Elton John
Neil Patrick Harris is just terrible.
Countess would get #2 if he earns it. He might soon...
Gardner would get #1 because I think he could end up becoming a better receiver than Braylon. He's more athletic, faster, and bigger. He could get draft consideration at WR if he breaks out this year.
No on the stickers. I used to be all about it, but now I like the helmets plain.
Definitely alternate jerseys, just not ugly ones.
Helmet numbers can come, or go. Year to year they can do what they want because the whole uniform has been changing slightly, yet constantly for 133 seasons.
Same offense we run now, or at least the offense they want to run.
Only coordinator I would add would be Dick Bumpas. He's the man and has coached everything on defense, paying his dues for decades:
Gardner hasn't played a snap at WR yet. Braylon was the #3 pick. I think it's going a bit far to say Gardner is more athletic, faster, and bigger.
But Gardner with the #1?? Kind of putting the carriage in front of the horse there don't you think? Lets not put somebody that hasn't caught a ball yet in a regulation game in front of one of the schools best WR's. Especially, when the one we are talking about is still listed as a QB
His offense didn't dominate except with weak opponents. Wake up! Yes to the 1 and 2 jersey. The rest is up to the team, the team, the team and not some 40 year old fan like myself. DC Mattison, and OC Hoke; I would order Hoke to hire an OC and coach the team while I drank beer on the sideline. I would also ask that the cheerleaders practiced by my beer stash. I would also make sure Kate Upton got VIP tours from the head coach.
Kate Upton isn't hot.
God bless her heart
Her boobs look like my wife's boobs...when my wife is months deep into breastfeeding.
...that they aren't all yours during this time. I understand all to well from my own experiences in fatherhood.
You'd turn her down?
Oh well, to each their own.
You can talk about me, call me names, slap me, even say Rich Rod was good, but never ever ever say she isn't hot. It is not an opinion and you need to stop lying to yourself. It is a fact of science that she is hot. It is an opinion for most girls, and that I understand.
If I were the Michigan HC I would consult the MGoBlog before making any recruiting decisions.
1. I can't see anyone on defense earning #2. The only player who I would consider giving it to is Jordan Kovacs, for his heart and his determination.
3. No helmet stickers. All we need is the wings.
4. Yes, a few different sets would be ideal.
5. I wouldn't, but it wouldn't kill me if it happened.
6. I would run a passing spread offense, plus a little extra tight endage.
7. Can't do any better than we already have
OT: I don't think this was a stupid post
If I were the HC they would run me out of town and the world's largest outcry would come to bring BH back.
#1 or 2 no not this year.
Helmet stickers yes. Helmet numbers no
Alternate uniforms on the condition that they are used as either a recruiting tool or a method of surprise to throw off the other team. or both
My coordinators........ duh.........no brainer........ the ones we got dude.
As far as the whole what type of offense I would run I am smart enough to know that I know less than nothing about anything so I would defer all decisions to my oober smart staff and I would hide in my office, until the crowd outside, mutilated Dave Brandon for hiring me.
Given my choice I'll keep running my machine at work and let the great men that are our beloved UM coaches, just do what they do.
If you were Michigan's coach ...
I'd make damn sure they understood there was no entitlement to numbers, no entitlement to anything. There's only one bullet on the agenda -- work hard and be what is expected of Michigan. Period.
This team -- hell, any team -- thrives not on the bullshit about numbers or any unearned accolades. Team, team, team ... and if at the end of the season the Big 10 banner is up in the rafters ... then we talk about honors.
I'm just in that kind of mood tonight. Neg-bang me if you wish.
3. No, like plain, uncluttered helmets
4. No, but if they do, keep it to 'away' jerseys only
5. No, but not a huge deal to me
6. Nebraska option football from the 90s. MANBALL and really put up the points!
7. Tom Osborne in his prime, and Mattison
Nobody would get #1 or 2 right now. I think the guy who dons that uniform has to be spectacular
I don't mind the helmet stickers. We had them back in the day. Strangely, I don't like the helmet numbers even though they were worn back in the day, too.
No alternate uniforms. We can slight changes to our road unis, but not the blues.
Gorgeous Borges and Greg Mattison would be my coordinators.
In the unfortunate event that I was Michigan Head Coach, win 900 would be a lot farther off. Like MSU 10/20/2012 instead of Purdue 10/6/12.
No helmet stickers!
Would anyone on defense get #2? Blake Countess has earned it IMO.
Same goes for the #1 on offense? This one sits vacant this year.
Helmet stickers? Yes? No? I would have stickers if we did not have numbers. There is no doubt in my mind that players would love it. And although no one is more important than the team, it gives players something to compete over to get better. It's a motivator.
Alternate jerseys? Yes, but stricter guidelines or some kind of vote by players or whoever. I never want to see the Sugar Bowl or Bumble Bees ever again.
Helmet numbers? Yes, if I didn't decide on stickers already.
What kind of offense would you run? I would run the same as Borges. Utilize your athletes and play makers but eventually get back to a more traditional pro style set. I know manball works in the big ten, but outside of it, especially in a playoff, is in question. I would never be as conservative as coach Carr. I would run trickery. A hybrid of size, power, and athleticism.
To add on to that, who would be your coordinators? If it aint broken, don't fix it. As of now, Borges and Mattison would be my pick.
What has Countess done? He didn't play well in many of the games, especially against VaTech. I am right with you that the kid has talent, but man he missed a few balls and tackles that were very easy.
We would never punt inside the other teams 50 yard line!
Would anyone on defense get #2? Not yet, but I've got my eye on Countess
Same goes for the #1 on offense? Also not yet.
Helmet stickers? Yes? No? No. I was just watching an old Rose Bowl game where we had helmet stickers and they were awful.
Alternate jerseys? If the players want them, OK. But no more than once or twice per season.
Helmet numbers? Same thing--if the players want it.
What kind of offense would you run? With Denard, I'd run something like what we have now. I still think mobile quarterbacks are the way to go in college, so I'd want to keep some spread elements in my offense. I would be run heavy, with the QB and tailback splitting carries about 1:2.
To add on to that, who would be your coordinators? Not counting Borges and Mattison, on defense, I'd add Manny Diaz. On offense, I'd add James Coley from Florida State. Coley has done a good job of green-lighting scarmbles and his QBs usually make decisions pretty quickly whether to pass or run. His QBs aren't going to look like PAt White or Denard Robinson, but they are mobile enough to pick up yards when passing lanes are closed.
Would anyone on defense get #2? Countess
Same goes for the #1 on offense? Denard
Helmet stickers? Yes? No? Yes sir!
Alternate jerseys? yep, one road and one home each year.
Helmet numbers? sure
What kind of offense would you run? pro-style with a solid run game and good playaction
To add on to that, who would be your coordinators? I can have anyone? Give me Mattison on defense (seriously, I think we have the best defensive coordinator out there) and gruden running the offense.
bonus question: I would try to eliminate bodybag games and any out of conference game that isn't against a big name/big time. I figure you go 3-1 you are cruising, you go 2-2 and you can actually claim to be better than a one loss team, and if you go 1-3 you still have the big ten title to play for.
imagine oregon, alabama, boise and texas as out of conference... or LSU, USC, Alabama, and Oklahoma or something crazy like that. Every game would be awesome and I think recruits would be drawn to that.
Would anyone on defense get #2?....No
Same goes for the #1 on offense?... Why not Denard?
Helmet stickers? Yes? No?....No
Alternate jerseys?....Hell no
Helmet numbers?....Yes. Love the retro look. Makes them look badass.
What kind of offense would you run?...No huddle spread/pro style/option
To add on to that, who would be your coordinators?...RR-Moeller tandem, Mattison
#s1 & 2, not this year. Set the expectation going into spring ball that they can be earned (and possibly lost) with on and off field performance for team 134 forward.
Helmet stickers, no. Denard would look like he was wearing a wingless all maize helmet by the B1G championship game.
Helmet numbers, yes- as long as the maize colors match, and only if the seniors agree they want them.
Coordinators? Brady Hoke is my coordinator of coordinators and has absolute decision making authority on the others.
Offense? Defer to above. I'm not smart enough to innovate, but I am smart enough to trust those who are.
Forgot alternate unis- only one per year, and only if the seniors agree they want it.
If you receive the blessing of #2, you've over performed in multiple facets of the game since your freshman year. As far as #1 goes, if you catch 1,750 yds. your soph. and junior years or put up outrageous overall scoring statistics, your offerd the option of #1 in your senior year.
Alternative jerseys are more for the fans than anyone else. Your team in new battle gear gets you pumped, admit it. Therefore, I'd allow one alternate jersey for a rivalry game and one for a game of the coaches (or fans) choice. If you change it up every year it produces the same shock and awe effect.
Do away with helmet stickers. The Class numbers, like SEAls BUDs class numbers, exemplify the team. Don't focus on individual achievements.
Say you run a 4-3 and let Mattison run whatever the heck he thinks will work on said play.
another troll negs an entire thread. No problem, i'll plus 1 an entire thread, bitch boy
Would anyone on defense get #2? NO -- but Countess next year if he plays like I expect him to this year.
Same goes for the #1 on offense? H*LL NO -- Might have been Stonum if he would have kept himself out of trouble.
Helmet stickers? Yes? No? NO -- There are other ways to incentivise players.
Alternate jerseys? YES -- but not adidas ones, refer to my suggestion about being the athletic director
Helmet numbers? YES/NO -- only if the players ask to keep them
What kind of offense would you run? Spread -- obviously not going to play Denard in anything else
To add on to that, who would be your coordinators? Do I seriously need to answer?! Especially on defense?!
Would anyone on defense get #2? Yes, I would give it to Countess.
Same goes for the #1 on offense? No, probably not this year.
Sidenote, if I was HC I wouldn't make 1 and 2 mythical jerseys. They would be eligible to anybody who had played a year with the team. If you hype them up too much, nobody would ever wear them.
Helmet stickers? Nope
Alternate jerseys? Nope
Helmet numbers? Nope
What kind of offense would you run? Pistol
1. bubble screens?
2. bubble screens????
3. Bubble screens??!?!??
4. Bubble Screens
5. BUBBLE SCREENS
6. BUBBLE SCREENS!!!111!1!111!11
