If we win, how many first place votes will we get?
So everyone has critiqued both Alabama and (obviously) Michigan's game, athletes, matchups, staff, etc. Is it a daunting task ahead of Team 133 on Saturday, ofcourse. But this is why the game is played. Fumbles happen. Interceptions happen. Denard making someone look stupid, happens. So let's say hypothetically we get the "W". Where does that put us? early season rankings mean very little but it would definately give us a boost on the rankings. That said, I think if that happens we get 12 first place votes and sit 3rd or 4th in the AP. What would your take be. Edited: First post... didn't think there was much context to it, came across as just a thought.. so added a little to it.

There is a lot of talent on our team that has had time to gel and learn the ways of this regime. But I think there is also something to be said for it being the first game when no one has seen your hand yet. Hoke , Borges, mattison, denard, kovacs, down to glanda... Them boys are not going to just show up and make an appearance. They are going to do everything in their power to win obviously. Your a fool if you don't think Hoke wants to start off 1-0 against bama. It can be done. That's why "where there is a will there is away" is a great saying. You can't count out ones determination, no matter the odds against him/her

You have been high on this team for a long time; if Michigan is able to pull off the upset, you have every right to throw up copious "I told you so" posts next week.
I'm not as sanguine as you about our prospects, but the recurring memory I keep having is of the Notre Dame and Syracuse games in 1998. Coming off a national championship and with one of the highest-rated recruiting classes we ever had, I fully expected Michigan to mop the floor with both those teams--instead, we started 0-2 and got bounced from the rankings. UM recovered to go 10-3 that year, and finished witha higher ranking and better record than both ND and Syracuse. But fot those two weeks in September, we weren't better than either of those two teams.
Everyone seems to be just assuming 2012 Alabama will be just as good as 2011 Alabama. They definitely have the talent to be. But that doesn't necessarily mean it will happen--or if it does, that it will happen right away. I don't expect Michigan to win, but the idea isn't crazy talk. (Personally, I think it's more a case of people not wanting to get their hopes up and then have them dashed.)

Bo's gonna come down from heaven and hit us in the ass with a lightning bolt if we keep this up much longer...

How many votes can I trade for beer? Oh...never mind.

Why is this game so "daunting"? It is not like Michigan is playing the Green Bay Packers. It is not like Alabama is playing Akron here. It is a tough opponent certainly...but it is getting very sickening listening to the national media constantly say that "Michigan has no chance". To Hell with That.
If Michigan wins, I dont think we should be #1, but we should be ranked higher than Bama.

sickeninger to see UM fans here say we have no chance.

I'm actually a grad student at Tech. That, however, doesn't mean that there isn't a chance that I'm RDT.

Enjoy your time outside of Lubbock. You may miss it. And when you come back bring some rain.
If being back "soon" means during this season, find me on here again. I could always use a Michigan game watching friend. Right now it's just me and my lonesome yelling at various T.V.s

Oh! I just looked at your name. This all makes much more sense now. Glad to know I'm not the only Michigan fan here. Are you going to Dallas on Saturday?

So I booted up the WOPR and threw this question at it. The answer is pi. The answer, "Pi", sounded an awful lot like Stephen Hawking as well.

All of them except for Bob Asmussen who decides that the win wasn't impressive enough to keep Michigan his #1

are Phillip Fulmer and Ron Zook voting?
August 30th, 2012 at 10:31 AM ^
Tremendous. Lets focus on that first though fergodsakes.
I'd love for bama to get thrown around like inbred donkeys but I don't see it happening, we could win though. Top 5 is as high as I'd go but not #1.
I would rank us favorites to win the Big Ten however. :)

If we win, I would expect to get all of them. The realist inside knows that if we win we would be hard pressed to get a third of the votes. There would be some of the voters that would say that 'Bama wasn't as good as we thought...or LSU was the class of the SEC anyway!
We should make out okay if we win or lose because we will compete well. This is not going to be a blow out IMO. If they whip us pretty good...then they should be #1, they will deserve it.
