If no other teams wanted Harbaugh (Per Clayton) then why did Baalke confirm this?

Submitted by CHI_BLU on

"he did acknowledge there had been trade inquiries for Harbaugh made by other teams, and Harbaugh was not interested."

So that being the case someone is full of it...My guess is Clayton!!

I will say this is something to keep in mind when Mike Valenti starts spewing his take all over this great UM Tuesday. I am sure this will be a top 5 reason not to get excited over the hire. "Nobody in the NFL wanted him anyway". Good luck pissing off Wolverines today you Sparty apologist.

I'm as much of a Valenti hater as the next guy, but in all fairness he was giving Harbaugh and UM their due yesterday. Said it was on par with Saban to 'Bama. Now I'm sure the first loss that Um has or their first misstep under JH he will be back to his normal self, but he's not raining on the hire at all.

He is less believable every year. Like Lou Holtz, his contemporary.
Yet as the prevailing thought goes, the breaks fell the right way for a change. Clayton and his ilk mean nothing. The future is everything!

I watched him last night on the WWL and replayed it because I thought I heard it wrong. Saying that Harbaugh couldn't find the right NFL fit so he "took the Michigan job that was just sitting there" is a load of crap. And then to say that he would be back in the NFL once the right job opened up is really - when you think about it - an attack on Harbaugh's character. He's the pizza face high school football team trainer turned into an NFL troll.

Clayton is protecting the shield, like the rest of those imbeciles. The nfl can't handle the idea that one of their top coaches chose to walk away to college so they create the narrative that there were no players for him, or that he was too 'abrasive' to make the nfl look better. It hasnt changed from the start. First it was no possible way Harbaugh would leave. Then it was Harbaugh told Michigan he preferred the nfl and "thanks but no thanks". Once it was announced that the 9ers were going to part ways the narrative was still Harbaugh to anywhere but UM. Once UM was finally admittedly in the race the story was the mega offer that no nfl team would likely match. Now here we are today and all the way up to 4pm the nfl insiders were saying Harbaugh was still in play... All of a sudden Harbaugh isn't wanted and is less desirable than Rex Ryan. Give me a fucking break.

Plus there was plenty of options for Harbaugh to consider. He could have took his time and waited to see what was out there. Atlanta has a great QB for him to work with. Chicago and New York are big market teams that could have offered full control(they fired both the coach and GM). Oakland was the perfect fit. They gave him his first coaching job, offered more money and are in the Bay Area. How are those not good situations for him? These NFL insiders are a total embarrassment.

I don't give frack about what any of these sour puss cack muffins have to say because Harbaugh is now back at Michigan. All these butt munchers can go punch beef.

What will sting the 49ers for years perhaps, and it may even discourage quality people from wanting the job perhaps, is that they demonstrated that they can easily let "philosophical differences" get in the way of winning games, that they are less able than some to put aside certain things and just enjoy the ride, as it were. I could see the lack of "creative control", if you will, scaring away a few people.

NFL reporters report what they are told by team execs and agents. If the Jets/Bears told him they weren't interested, which they probably did since they don't want to look like they were turned down, that's what Clayton reported. The problem is that a reporter's job is also to cut through the bullshit. Thus the story looks like Harbaugh was either too expensive (Bears, which they definitely don't want reported) or there wasn't any interest (Jets/Raiders/anyone else). Clayton reported the denial rather than the story.

there is more money available to coaches in college.

Michigan's up'd the ante considerably and the big money donors will have to step up their game at the college level.  Expect a tide of money to flow towards college coaches and that tide will draw NFL coaching experience.

Even this morning, Clayton still tried to play off Harbaugh to Michigan in an un-truthful way.
