why did LSU Offensive Coordinator Gary Crowton just leave the bayou to become the offensive coordinator at Maryland? Same job, inferior conference, new head coach.

Based on flimsy internet meme, they hate Miles too....and he just signed a 7 year extension.
They hated Crowton because he took Russell Shepard -- a QB that Rich Rodriguez wanted more than he wanted Denard Robinson -- and turned him into a wide receiver who never gets the ball, took Jordan Jefferson and turned him into a running QB even though he's not actually fast -- and even though they had Russell Shepard ON THE SAME TEAM -- and kept running Jarrett Lee out at QB even after he threw like 15 pick 6s.
Miles' sins are high misdemeanors. Crowton's were capital offenses.
There is no time, sir, at which ties do not matter.
LSU fans consider Miles > Crowton
the joke on tigerdroppings was that they were happy Miles was going to go to Michigan except if he were to leave Crowton to coach LSU, thus creating the impossible: a situation worse than Miles as HC and Crowton as OC.
trust me. you're off base on this one.
I live in Louisiana and most of my friends around here are die-hard LSU fans. Most of them didn't like Les because of his poor clock management skills and because they felt like the offense was underperforming. They all absolutely hated Gary Crowton. Most of them admitted that Les was a great recruiter, but they felt like the negatives in clock management and offense outweighed the positives.
I've talked to some of my friends in the last couple of days, and they're all really happy that Crowton is gone. A lot of them who were screaming "Fire Les Miles" all season are actually happy that Les stayed and Crowton is gone. They're excited to see what happens at LSU with a new coordinator and they're willing to give Les another chance, but he's still on a short leash in their minds.
People who claim they actually saw Denard on the field are liars.
that's an expensive short leash (like $18 million)
I'm saying that most LSU fans who were screaming "Fire Les" all year are willing to give him another chance, but he's on a short leash in their minds. I don't think he's on a short leash in terms of job security at all.
People who claim they actually saw Denard on the field are liars.
This was a forced resignation. He's terrible.
He finds new jobs for people he doesn't want rather than just cutting them loose.
He's been a pretty terrible OC at LSU for quite a while.
recruits to UofM.......that would be a nicer gesture than the one he has given to us recently

According to DB, Les Miles never had the Michigan job offered to him - so he never actually spurned us. It would be hard for him to accept a job that wasn't offered.
Read [this] and tell me he wasn't offered the job. DB didn't want whoever got hired to think that they were Plan D (among many other reasons on the coach's end as well like recruiting, fans, ect.) so he is using the scapegoat of "well noone was offered the job except Brady".
Read that article and tell me Les couldn't have became Michigan's coach Tuesday morning if he made the decision to do so.
Read the ESPN article entitled "Les Miles agrees to new seven year contract" (tried to link but failed epically) and tell me he wasn't offered the job. DB didn't want whoever got hired to think that they were Plan D (among many other reasons on the coach's end as well like recruiting, fans, ect.) so he is using the scapegoat of "well noone was offered the job except Brady".

indeed, losing crowton was great news for the LSU program.
Glad to see some of you were on the TigerDroppings forum too.
I just clicked a news link on Yahoo Sports (not actively scouring LSU message boards).
I hear he coached with Edsall at Boston College at some point.
More money, and because Crowton isn't a good OC and LSU was wise to it. ACC fans are already laughing their asses off at Maryland.

didn't want a "No-Cut" guarantee from DB. Seven more years at LSU takes him to age 65. The last Miles "contract" after 2007 season ('08) .. Miles reportedly wanted a "8 win season" clause that would prohibit LSU from firing him as long as he won 8 games. So DB may have seen that Miles was more about himself than Michigan .... which maybe is why DB never made Miles an offer.
Go Blue !
No place on earth I'd rather be on a football Saturday than Michigan Stadium !
are we really going to try and take swipes at LSU just because we couldn't poach their coach? Let's try and make an effort to not look like a scorned woman.
I was just curious as to why the OC would take a lateral job at an inferior conference. As everybody has sufficiently pointed out, Crowton sucks and they were glad to get rid of him.
Now that that's been answered, I will go back to not giving 2 shits about LSU.
Les Miles didn't reject UM, he was interviewed but wasn't offered the job. Period. He saved face by saying "I've decided to stay at LSU" but it wasn't by his choice. I like Hoke over Miles long term anyway.
"Those who stay will be champions"

Oh right, tell me you really don't believe the whole "I only looked at Hoke" bullsh*t. I mean we know he looked at Pinkel and Fitzgerald....so I guess he only looked at those 3, and conveniently overlooked Miles and Harbaugh?
There are plenty of reasons to beproud to be a UM alum, but being self-righteous and blind about who our coach is and is not is not one of them.
DB never offered Miles the position, and never will.I think he realized the first time Les opened his mouth that he was in it for the money, and for all the wrong reasons.Yes initially there was interest but that was short-lived. In case you've been in a cave the last 2 weeks here is what you missed.JH met with DB and told him he'd help with the search but wasn't to be considered because he was headed to the NFL.DB met with LM and realized he wasn't the same guy he knew years ago,and would be in it for all the wrong reasons(especially the money). And then BH was offered and accepted. There you are, two weeks in a nutshell.Do your homework Tater.
He was forced out.
Proud To Be An American But Even Prouder To Be A Wolverine!
LSU just got more dangerous whether or not Miles wanted to keep Crowton. Let's hope he hires Debord to replace him....
Hail to the Victors!
because LSU fans hated Crowton with the passion of a thousand suns?
He's awful.
