Ian Bunting: Rapper

Submitted by Lucky Socks on

Continuing in the theme of Michigan athletes who seem to be musically inclined, future Michigan TE Ian Bunting has released a YouTube rap video (per TomVH).

My first reaction was "Oh no....#DatBull."  My second was "this isn't half-bad."  The only explicit content is two s-words, and one F-word so I don't think there will be any controversy here.  I do wonder if he screened it by the coaches before, or just trusted that it is harmless enough to post.

Most of the new hip hop stuff seems too generic to me. Give me aceyalone's book of human language or gangstarr's moment of truth to anything out today. The root's new album was a disappointment, instead of rhazel, Malik b and scratch, I get 6 verses from black thought, a bunch of singers, and 4 actual hip hop tracks.

Strengths: beat, delivery on verses Areas for improvement: lyricism, and the hook sounded contrived Upshot: I made it halfway through the song, which puts him in the 98th percentile for rap songs posted on sports blogs.

Coming from the "Long Live Rock" (or "Get Off My Lawn") generation that claims Doo Wop, Buddy, Elvis, Motown, Soul, Surf Music, the British Invasion, the voices of the original Woodstock Nation and The Boss as its own, I’ve never liked much rap and hip hop, but I’ve always respected rap and hip hop as the music of a new generation.

From David Cone to JDK and Rey (Jack Kennedy and Joe Reynolds with Will Hagerup occasionally backing them on guitar) and now with J Reall (Jabrill Peppers) and Ian Bunting – the beat goes on at Fort Schembechler.

As they say, Respect! They’re Michigan Men, fergodsakes!

He should be very proud of the video and himself.  I thought it was more than some random college football "dude" trying to rap.  He's got some skills, but he needs to get a Coner cameo in the next video.

His signing voice and rapping flow arent bad and are actually pretty good...his writing ability on the other hand is atrocious..

Its cool Ian, lots of musicians have ghost writers...

Flashin' those giant hands all he can before he gets campus. Don't blame him. Chics DIG GUYS WITH BIG HANDS.
Hopefully he redshirts, eats all of his meal plan, half of Pip's, and shows up in '15 like Gronk'.
Just win. GO BLUE.
