I was wrong about Rudock self-negbang

Submitted by carlos spicywiener on

I've been bitching about Rudock all season. Well, not insulting, but clearly thought he was below our standard. I thought he handicapped us. But he's made of tough stuff.

Neg me please I deserve it

Confessional thread?  I voiced my hope a few times that Speight be given a chance before last week.  So happy with Rudock's play.  I'm surprised he didn't hit this form 2-3 games earlier, but not surprised he's playing well.

Rudock put the team on his back tonight. Really happy to see him come on strong for the season stretch. Also glad to see that he shook off the interception in the second half and didn't get conservative.

Rudock definitely has a bit of the clutch gene.

I put up a thread titled "in defense of Rudock" earlier this year (you can search for this). Do I get any love for being an early believer?

I love Rudock myself! Guys very good and improving so much, and such a great guy. But I'm still not going back on the fact that I'd have rather started a younger guy this season and got him experience going into next season. But that's just one fans uneducated opinion. I'm just saying that I'm not going back on it. However, Rudock is great!

Iowa thought Rudock is done. hmmmm.......

I really hope we win the next two and have a showdown with Iowa so Rudock gets his redemption. He deserves it. The man is on a mission and I would be very afraid, if I were Iowa.

Carlos -- You are cool. I am sure almost all of us on this board had our doubts one time or the other. May be how much we expressed that could be up for discussion.

I haven't been as vocal. But I was definitely against Rudock in his first showings.

He stepped up against Minnesota, Rutgers, and showed some progress.

Today against Indiana. He flat out balled.

I am 99.99% sure you couldn't convince a single "true" Michigan fan that Michigan wins this game without him. 6 touchdowns to 1 interception? I'll take that every fucking game of the week.

440 passing yards? Um, yes please!

I wasn't against Rudock, as I was rooting for him from the start. But my confidence wained as he seemed to play like an average game manager.

Rudock, if you are reading this, (which I know you aren't because you're above it) you are a fucking baller. Describing you as having Ice in your Veins is an understatement.

Indiana isn't the best team to have come out on, but without you, we lose to this crappy team and our season project PLUMMETS!

Thank you Rudock. I will not doubt you the rest of your career as a Michigan QB.

You are a GAME CHANGER!

Quarterback controversy in his last (or only) year, mass fans complaining and asking for another quarterback, after a game like tonight, the head for leadership and the steel factor make me question... could Jake Rudock be this generation's incarnation of Tom Brady?

I, too, seek penance. Any less of a qb wouldn't have been able to put the team on his back (or shoulder) in such high stakes. Well done, Jake. Keep winning, keep dreaming.

Rudock made it happen. Unbelieveable clutch performance. In this game, our best defense was a good offense.

I know we all want to see Jake lead Michigan against Iowa.

Dude has been playing like the force is with him. Fuckin Jedi master the last few games. Chesson too. What a fucking game he had. Offense bailed out the defense today and Rudock was really the key since we couldn't run for shit either.

I thought Rudock was one of the worst QBs in the B1G. I thought he would never complete a deep pass. I wondered if he was injured. I even wondered if Andrew Luck was just Andrew Luck and Harbaugh wasn't a great quarterbacks coach. For that, I deserve nothing but negs.

There were some crazy people wanting Speight or Morris earlier in the year, but there were also people believing that Jake was the best option but not believing he would be good enough. Before today, there hadn't been even one pass completed over the top of the defense.  There had been some good intermediate throws, but none over the top.  Yes, Indiana's pass defense is bad, but guys have been open deep before and still missed. Today, he hit them and saved our bacon.  Thank you, Jake!

I didn't bag on Rudock earlier in the season, but I wasn't impressed with him either.  He just screamed "placeholder" to me.

After the past couple of games, though, I'm coming around.  The 6 TDs are great and all... but today he finally hit his deep throws.  Most of them, anyway.  He does that and our offense is far more dangerous than they have been and we have a puncher's chance against ANY team in the country.

if anyone remembers the movie Rookie Of The Year where the kid has some freak accident that gives him a cannon that he ends up dominating the majors after a rocky start. Rudock feels like the kid to me, since the shady hit against Minnesota he has been money. I did however worry when he got popped while sliding that he was going to lose his gift.

Deep throws were key. I admit, I was a downer on him earlier in the year. He's looking pretty good now. His legs were also huge. So Harbaugh knows what he's talking about!!!

Most of this blog was really down in Rudock, I personally believed he needed time to settle in to the offense. I also think that the last few weeks he has faced some bad defenses including Indiana who's defense is ranked 120th nationally. I won money on draft kings by taking Rudock and chesson today and only 4% of the 40k in the tournament had chosen Rudock and only 2% chose chesson . It's all about match ups. Now that Rudock has been successful, he can carry his confidence into the next two weeks.

I feel he is a good game manager. The deep ball was there tonight on that long pass that we got fucked on. He still has to improve that aspect but the deep pass he threw tonight was spot on
