I used to like One Shining Moment

Submitted by BigBlue02 on

What I was forced to listen to after the postgame was definitely not Teddy or Luther. Why on earth would I want to listen to a crappy remake of One Shining Moment by Jennifer Hudson. That used to be one of my favorite parts of the tourney. Bring back Luther.....that sucked horrible balls.

When Rumeal hits his second free throw.

I still like OSM, but couldn't understand the Jennifer Hudson (who??) clips. There were so many big shots and great moments from this years tournament (and so many close games) you didn't need to show anything but action shots. Sure, Huggy Bear and Butler was touching, but how big was the N. Iowa shot against Kansas. Take took balls, yet it was a quick clip hardly recognizable.

If Butler had won, I'd have scrapped OSM for the theme to Hoosiers, just because (even though the Butler story is more like the real Milan team, and quite different than Hickory from the movie).

Since Duke won, maybe the imperial march from star wars would have been better.

How many days until Michigan football starts?

Honestly, she's got a nice voice, but I could barely understand what she was singing, and I know the damn words to the song. With that said, why the hell did they have to show her mug during the video? It's a basketball song and they were wasting valuable time showing her face when it could have been clips from the tourney. I grew up an Indiana fan and I to this day, have the Championship Game from 1987, with One Shining Moment at the end. I used to watch that song over and over.

I was going to make the same post this morning - they just had to come in and over-commercialize something with a pop singer - and have her mug displace a few clips. I like Jennifer Hudson and she does look great but that was a weak move. Didn't even sound good.

It was especially sour after watching Duke prance up to the award podium.

has been going down hill for years. Actually, the Mateen Cleaves-Tom Izzo make out session during the 2000 version (only to be outdone by Bob Huggins semi-porn) marked the beginning of the decline. For a long time, One Shining Moment was the cool thing that happened after the game. After it was identified as "One Shinning Moment-the moment you have all been waiting for," it has become very hokey. They should scratch it, along with J Nantz. I liked him for a while, but the guy is just not a basketball announcer, feels really forced.

I was against the 96 team expansion but now I'm really hoping the NCAA opts-out and ESPN grabs the rights. Honestly, OSM was terrible. They really ruined what was a great tradtion. Give it to the 30-fo-30 guys at ESPN and bring it back.

When watching a championship game featuring 2 teams that I really don't care who wins, at least I have One Shining Moment to look forward to. No more, I guess. Love J Hudson's voice, but it is WRONG for that song. And I agree that it was irritating that they kept jumping to shots of her. They turned it into a freakin' music video (as opposed to a basketball video with a great song attached).
