Since I can't start my own thread because of a low point total I will ask my question here. I am going to be offered a job in Columbus this week and want to hear from people what it is like living there. Also, what it is like being a Michigan grad and fan there? It will really will come down to their offer, but would like to hear people's opinion of living there.

I've live in Columbus now for almost 20 years. We've raised 3 kids here in northeast Franklin County. Our public school system where we live is rated fairly high, shopping areas are clean and atractive, and my neighbors are good, decent hard working people. Housing is a bit on the high side but most surburban neighborhoods are family friendly with relatively low crime. My only problem is some OSU fans are arrogant and obnoxious - of the toothless peabrain pinhead variety. For the most part my friends and coworkers are tolerable of my love for all that is Michigan - as I at wear at least one piece of Michigan garb 98% of the time and decorate my office with Michigan memorabilia. I would say there are at least 150 coworkers who are die hard Wolverines (out of a approximately 2,400). As expected we get abused mostly during and right after Michigan week, but for all other times of the year most of the OSU nut fringe (away from OSU facilities) do not go out of their way to insult us. My advice for any Michigan fan contemplating a move to Columbus - take a good dose of skin thickener, and show your Michigan pride at every opportunity. Let there be no mistake in any OSU fan's mind where you stand and which team you love and support.

I grew up a Michigan fan in Columbus (my dad went to UM) and I lived there for most of my life before coming to Michigan to get my MBA.
Columbus actually isn't that bad of a city. Unlike most midwestern cities, Columbus is still growing and has gotten a lot nicer over the past 20 years or so. Cost of living is low, traffic is ok, and there are many quite a few nice neighborhoods to live in.
As for being an M fan in Columbus, it actually isn't as bad as you might think. However, when I lived there, I made a very deliberate point of not listening to sports talk radio or the sports portion of the local news. Ohio State football is the only sport in Columbus. Since the city only has one professional team, the Blue Jackets, people in Columbus pretty much talk about Ohio State 24-7-365.
Another observation: you'll see a lot more people wearing Michigan clothing in Columbus than you'll see people wearing OSU clothing around A2. I would regularly wear Michigan stuff around Columbus, and rarely would I get a comment (walking around campus may be a different story). However, there were days where I would wonder why people were constantly glaring at me and then remember I was wearing a Michigan hat. Most OSU fans are respectful, but you'll run across the occasional douche bag.
Long story short: its not that bad being an M fan in Columbus. The city is actually pretty nice, just be sure not to turn on sports talk radio because listening to that crap will definitely induce projectile vomiting...

I've lived in Columbus since 2004 and I find it to be an incredibly easy city to live in.
The highway system is really good. People drive insanely slow, but u can get anywhere in the city in 20 minutes.
Only drawback is that since the city is so young, there are tons of strip malls and few resturants, shops, or even neighborhoods with much charachter or charm, save a few pockets.
osu fans are everywhere and for the most part obnoxious. I have had probably less than 2 non-shitty interactions with an osu fan regarding michigan. I wear UM gear whenever possible.
Also, there is a pretty active UM alumni club here too.
Otherwise, I agree with the other posts.

I live in Cleveland and spend a lot of time in Columbus on business. Unfortunately it's NOT that bad anymore cause they have developed a sense of "you suck-we're gonna win" type arrogance we used to boast during the Cooper era.
Back then you'd take your freaking life in your hands wearing anything Michigan but now days all you get is the occasional "oh your coach should get a lifetime contract" type snarky crap. I liked it a lot better when it was dangerous.

looked more like the defense was held back. just kidding. ok ill take the idiot comment but remember that wisconsin is wisconsin and they are the best team in the league this year. i believe they have 19 seniors starting. but you always hold something back for the buckeye game. i just have a feeling coach rod has something in the bag for this one. or at least he needs to develop something to keep them off balance long enough to stay in the game.

I wouldn't say onside everytime, but I'd do it a few. Right before Michigan onsided the first time yesterday, I said "If I was coach, right now I'd do one of those surprise onside kicks". It happens, and the guy next to me goes "How'd you know that?!".
But yes, I sure hope they go all out with the offense for this game. God I hate them so much and I want to win, even if it's by 1 point.

That's a good one.
Hopefully the stepfather was duly antagonized.
