this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines
I know today's game feels like a loss, but...
The D sucks ass, yes, it's sad but true. But in the end, we won. So regroup and come out new next week. That's all you can do.
If I were UMass, I'd be bummed over the loss. They've played I-A teams before and usually were competitive. At this point I think they want a W.
As for us, the crappiest win is still 693,398,146 times better than the best loss.
A win is a win regardless...take one week at a time. Well we know what areas need to be improved!
I wonder whether we would have won had we played the game at umass.
are a lose/lose proposition for Michigan. You either lose, or you didn't win big enough. I hate these games. What exactly does Michigan have to gain from a game like this, other than filling out the home schedule with a 110,000 ticket take?
UMASS is a good ball control team, and that they did, and they should be commended. The QB made virtually no mistakes or bad throws the entire game. His offensive line protected him well and UMASS's coaching staff kept UM off-balance all day with mis-direction and nice inventory of play calls. They took what the defense was giving them like you're supposed to do.
I just hate these FCS scheduled games.
I like how Danny Ocean said it:
"Well, it sure as hell ain't sad."
Also, can we stop with these threads yet?
Please quit daydreaming about assumed moral victories from the visiting opponent, we expected more from you.
I'd rather have an ugly win than an amazing, feel good loss. You can be proud of how you played, but I can't imagine any athlete being satisfied with a loss.
even if we looked like crap on defense today. Winning IS everything. Coming from someone who lives in Madison now, nobody brings up the UW OT win over Cal-Poly when Cal Poly's kicker missed three kicks for the win. It should only hurt if you lose. I am sure they wont be making t-shirts with todays score at UMass. We won. Go Blue.
This did not feel like a loss! This was a game played after two very emotional and significant games. Although several had called this a "trap" game - I thought the offense looked okay, at times, and the defense now has some great tape to observe and improve upon for next week. Yes, this was not the blow-out everyone hoped for, but it was a good win against a team that demonstrated the old adage, "you gotta' show up for every game".
Although several had called this a "trap" game
Never saw that on the 'net or heard anyone say it. Usually the only debate was how soon the backups would be playing.
defense now has some great tape
Well that's certainly optimistic. And now our opponents have a great idea of how to exploit our defense too. Gave up 439 yards of offense to a 1-AA team.
I bet that guy everyone was trashing for his little house on the prairie comments is feeling pretty good right now... I mean as good as you can after a loss.
many coaching points. Almost imploded but didn't. I'd like to see more emotion from the D plus something more from the D coaches. However, its a win. I expected a big let down but I I thought the first half was the letdown. I'm neutral ... move on. Better able the assess after Indiana ... did I really type that???
Don't get me wrong, a win is a win and I'm happy to take it. But, I'm just wondering how UMass feels about it. That's all...
It feels like a win to me.
It feels like 3-0.
This is the kind of game Michigan would have lost in 2007 or 2008; the fact that they didn't lose this one shows progress. This will work out perfect, because it will give the team a "break" from the adolation they were getting this week. It also gives RR a chance to remind the team that, as he has said often already, they "can't play bad and expect to win."
I also liked RR's comment to the effect that the defense isn't going to have a very good time in practice this week. This game gives RR a lot of "coachable moments" to correct. If they weren't listening last week, they certainly will this week. Af RR has the tape to pull out the rest of the year if he feels they are getting too comfortable with their talent level.
You think the 2010 edition is going to be better than the 2007 team?
As a fan over the last few years, we've lived through the Horror, the Toledo (not sure if this had a catchy nickname, so just added a the), 3-9, and last years conference collapse. We came into the year feeling the wrath, again, of the AMSHG, expecting, in truth, hoping, for 7-5 or 8-4, with an offense that could score points and a lot of inexperience and holes on defense. Today, we won a game, bringing us to 3-0 on the season, with an offense that scored a lot of points and a lot mistakes from an inexperienced defense. People say, a win is a win is a win. People say it because it's true. Our expectations as fans have gone skyhigh the last few weeks and that's great, but to be upset about a win, any win, after 8-16 for the last two years, that's just crazy.
Our young team did what it had to to get a W. Before we get too crazy about FCS opposition, tets not forget that the horror happened with a team containing our all-time leading passer, our all-time leading rusher, and a #1 NFL draft pick at left tackle. A team that had almost made it to the national championship game the year before and finished the season by beating the team it would have faced if it got there.
Everybody calm down, enjoy three wins in a young season. The sky isn't falling...
We didn't today. W is W.
You guys are missing the point of the thread. Instead of reading the whole thread, you just read the title. The point is: How does UMass feel. Not does this game feel like a loss. Jesus Christ.
I got the point, but if you include "I know today's game feels like a loss" in your title, you're going to get the responses you did. I don't really think it feels like a loss.
To answer the question from your post though, since I didn't do that in my other response, no, I don't think that UMass feels happy about hanging in there in a loss. I think they'll look at it as a game they made some plays to win and didn't. Just like for Michigan, a win is a win, for UMass, a loss is a loss. In fact, though I know he was probably trying to be nice, if I was a UMass player, I would take Coach Rodriguez coming into the locker room, congratulating us for giving Michigan a run for their money as a little condensing and insulting. The players on that team came here to win. They didn't, though they felt they probably could have, and I'm sure they're probably upset about that.
I blame it on the fact that it's 3 in the morning here and I'm pretty drunk, but I just made a comment about the feels like a loss in the title of your thread in response to a post you made about people making too much out of you having feels like a loss in the title of your thread.
me=fail for that. Sorry. Disregard the first part of my post and just skip to the second paragraph where I answer your question.
Thank you for responding to the point of the thread. Nothing against you, but sometimes it just feels like there are too many walmart wolverines on this board.
There were a bunch of UMass fans at Charlie's last night and they were all happy. There was an asshole fan that was flicking them off and stuff, so I went out, sat with them, and talked to them for a while to make sure they didn't think all UM fans were like that.
They kept saying "only five points" and I shrugged my shoulders. They definitely felt like it was a win.
