I am WD

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Probably stupid to make a thread for this but this isn't the first time I've said that to myself before making a thread so here it goes:

For those thinking I was having some celebration because the email was proven to be real, that's not the case.

I have no reason to celebrate anything. All I did was hit the buried treasure chest with a shovel. Brian and Ace are the ones who dug it up and opened it.

I'm no hero but I appreciate the kind words that I've read on here and from those on twitter--especially after last week. I felt I needed to come on here and tell people why I haven't been posting since the Jon06 FOIA turned up nothing.

I was pretty ashamed of myself that I was supposedly fooled. I put my neck on the line and was absolutely certain it was real. I wasn't going to post for a very long time on here, if ever again. I was going to stay solely as a reader and would up/downvote like I did on Friday/Saturday nights for Hockey. I was even wrestling with myself all day at work about coming back on here, even if after I read everything.

I'm back as a poster, but I won't be the same as I was before I took that break. I even said last week that life was finally catching up with me in terms of class and my job. But I'm glad that I can continue to give updates and keep people informed about the Michigan teams that don't get much coverage. Along with uniform updates that I know EVERYONE loves.

Anyways. Keep being you, guys. It's pretty cool.

I'm surprised nobody has done Child's Play. You've got about seven different aliases before you go kaput. Tis the season and all that.

Ghosts are lame.

/ducking right with you.

the ground you stand on is firm, don't be afraid to put yourself out there.  You're a vital part of this community and it'd be a shame if you changed how you operate solely because of this.

you're a good - and certainly prolific - writer. if you hope/intend to let the world read your words, accept that you will never please everyone. criticism, both constructive and otherwise, is part of the deal.

i enjoy your writing. welcome back.

Welcome back WD.

One small piece of advice - when people delve into your personal life (i.e. don't you want to get laid?) and crap like that just avoid answering it.  No one else on this board is ever asked these questions so I have cringed over the past months seeing people single you out.  I know more about you than any other person on this board for no other reason than you are constantly poked about your personal life - and you feel a need to respond / defend yourself.

It is no one's business - you are a rabid Wolverine fan and what you do or do not do on your own time doesn't matter one iota.  And people should respect that.

WD,

Believe it or not, I was in a similar situation once -- with someone sending me a very embarassing document that they had found on the web that had major implications for some important issue (mine was more political than sporting) and I had to figure out if it was genuine based on vague clues in technology I barely understood.

Mine worked out well enough -- we nailed the bastards for it -- and it looks like you handled yours well too.

Congratulations!

You made me eat a lemon for God's sake.  My wife asked me "why are we doing this again?" and I had to explain to her the entire WD persona and why it was important I responded to your challenge.

Really good to have you back.

Bro, you just got a killer topic for your Personal Statement on your transfer application to UM.

Kill those grades.  Get into Michigan.  Profit.

A Dave Brandon-less Athletic Department awaits when you arrive.

Don't worry about the haters who came after you. You add a lot of positives with your posts despite what others may say. A lot of that is jealousy on their part, a lot is ignorance and even more is that they have less going on for themselves that you do. Keep your chin up, glad you're back and I hope you eventually feel comfortable enough to post some of the quality information that has come your way in the past.

Life is just a series of experiences. You just had one you can tell WD grandkids when they are sitting on your knee while watching us pound OSU et al. This is just an internet board full of like minded Michigan fans. As far as I can tell there was no malice in your heart or intensions. I am sorry so many of our brothers got bent too far out of shape.

I know this could not possibly have been a fun experience for you, and that sucks. Just remember the saying; what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Since you are obviously not dead, you are stronger. If posting on this board, sharing your enthusiasm, brings you happiness, please continue. Do what you want to do, not what others want you to do. It will take you far.

Don't let some stupid blog stop you from anything. We all fall but only to get back up again. But, you didn't fall!!!! Someone tried to shoestring tackle you on your way to the end zone as you tip-toed your way down the sideline. Video review confirms that you scored the game winning touchdown. Don't ever let people tell you no or convince you your wrong when you know your correct.

You can't stop posting or being you we all love Michigan athletics. Your thoughtful insightful posts will be missed if you stop.

Mike,

I have been reading this blog for many years and rarely post but I am today to welcome you back. I like your posts and what you bring to the board and hope you will continue as before.

Best to you,

BSB

I've always been a frequent reader and seldom poster. It's not a bad place to be. You, however, definitely would have been missed as a poster had you not decided to return. Glad it all worked out for you.

Even if what you passed on happened to have been bogus - so long as you passed it on in good faith - you should not let that get you down much.  In the words of Moe Sizlack, that's why they put erasers on pencils.  The bonus here is that it appears that what you passed on was legit, but that's only a bonus.

In any event, welcome back, to you and your binders full of statistics.

I picture him proclaiming that as MR. ROBOTO winds down in the background...

...not sure why...

Anyhoo... you shouldn't have taken such a beating WD.  As I've posted elsewhere, there were plenty of reasons to give you the benefit of the doubt.  Wish I'd spoken up.

You are now a crucial part of Brandon's obituary that is being written presently.  I'm still amazed that Brandon would write those terrible e-mails, however, there can be no doubt that he is just a jerk.  He will not be employed by the university for much longer.

In light of recent events, I offer this: "... A useful distinction, to clarify thought." He spread his hands. "Reputation is what others know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself. Friction arises when the two are not in concert." "... if you're really asking for advice from my accumulated wisdom, I'm saying: Guard your honor. Let your reputation fall where it may. And outlive the bastards." - Aral Vorkosigan (paraphrased), from A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold.

Lighten up bro. It's the internet. It's internet about sports. You are a human being. Try to make your life about more than internet sports takes. FWIW: Never thought you were making it up, just that it would have been a good idea to verify before posting.

Glad to see you back. I thought the backlash against you was a little out of control. That said, I love the snark on this site but sometimes it is hard to not take comments personally.

I guess I never even saw what the big deal was.  I mean, would that have been the first time someone on the internet said something that ended up being wrong?

Frankly, these e-mails aren't in my top ten reasons why Brandon should be fired.  They sure aren't good, but I would fire him for a whole bunch of other reasons.

So relax, its all good.

Furthermore, I thoroughly enjoy your equipment/uniform posts.  Things like that are what differentiates a team dedicated message board from any other source of team news.  In fact, I come here specifically hoping for such minutiae and esoteric info.

I can't take this kid anymore. I liked WD better when he would post second hand information he got from twitter. This third hand email business has just gotten ridiculous.

and you were right and all, but "I'm no hero"? cumong man. you're reaching jonathan moxon levels with that statement. just because a bunch of posters on this board took this topic too seriously doesn't mean you need to as well. i wouldn't say the word "hero" should be bandied about when all that is at stake is proving or not proving michigan's AD has thin skin.

i guess all i'm saying is that just because there was a backlash to the original email posting doesn't make this SERIOUS BUSINESS. take this whole thing with a grain of salt. you're not an investigatory reporter.

Well, look ... the board is who has been hyping WD up so much - not WD himself. I mean, we created a thread inquiring as to whether or not he is alive or dead, banned or not banned.  The board has definitely been the dramatic party here, so "I'm no hero" seems like an appropriately absurd response to the absurb behavior of all of us.  My opinion.
