I am WD

Probably stupid to make a thread for this but this isn't the first time I've said that to myself before making a thread so here it goes:

For those thinking I was having some celebration because the email was proven to be real, that's not the case.

I have no reason to celebrate anything. All I did was hit the buried treasure chest with a shovel. Brian and Ace are the ones who dug it up and opened it.

I'm no hero but I appreciate the kind words that I've read on here and from those on twitter--especially after last week. I felt I needed to come on here and tell people why I haven't been posting since the Jon06 FOIA turned up nothing.

I was pretty ashamed of myself that I was supposedly fooled. I put my neck on the line and was absolutely certain it was real. I wasn't going to post for a very long time on here, if ever again. I was going to stay solely as a reader and would up/downvote like I did on Friday/Saturday nights for Hockey. I was even wrestling with myself all day at work about coming back on here, even if after I read everything.

I'm back as a poster, but I won't be the same as I was before I took that break. I even said last week that life was finally catching up with me in terms of class and my job. But I'm glad that I can continue to give updates and keep people informed about the Michigan teams that don't get much coverage. Along with uniform updates that I know EVERYONE loves.

Anyways. Keep being you, guys. It's pretty cool.

Yeah, this is the other side of the coin. No doubt people were jumping to conclusions about the FOIA request, but now we find this implicates the department in even more mendacity. Obviously they should have a record of this sort of thing, and probably they would have one, if they wanted to.

The overall picture of these emails is a fairly shocking lack of professionalism. This is a deep rabbit hole.

And you keep being you.  I'm probably gonna make fun of you for it sometimes, but all the same.

BTW, the lesson I'd take from this: Know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em.  Lot of people make the opposite mistake, being stubbornly inflexible.  You folded a full house thinking the other guy had a straight flush.

WD kicked each and every one of those girls to the curb last spring when he decided not to go to prom (or so he posted).  The angst went unrequited.

Welcome back, WD, but watch out for all those angst-filled girls once they emerge from their locker room.   :-)

I've seen the MGoBlog community at its ugliest over the last month or so... not a fun place to be lately.   WD took a hit because he posted something he thought was real.... others lambasted him and essentially told him to F Off.   Vindication?   Yeah, I guess.  But I bet this kid is pretty hurt.  He only posted what he thought everyone wanted to know.

Maybe this communicty can stop being so f'ing negative and start being a group of cohesive suffering fans that work together to ease each others' pain.  Better to suffer as a collective group than with a bunch of assholes "at your side."

This site has been much much uglier than this in the past.  If you remember the end of the RR era, we were separating into different sects and bickering with each other every day.  We are nowhere near that point, even with this particular occurrence.  We are all indeed on edge, and this happened to be something controversial that awoke the dragons (albeit generally mild ones) in some posters.

I'd say the moral of the story is that in the future, if you have something this big (which can be difficult to gauge), you send it to Brian first.  Let him use his resources to uncover the truth, release it properly and protect individuals here from avoidable blowback that it may cause.

As for your last point, as species, and I'd say even more specifically as a fanbase, we strive for conflict.  As someone who only occasionally turns into an asshole on here, I personally find it all terribly entertaining.

Yes and no.  There was definitely the Keep Rod/Fire Rod arguing going on, but I think the negativity is worse this time around even though there's 100% agreement that it's time for change.  For example, I don't recall shots taken at players in 2010 the way there are now.

Your last point is very interesting and astute.  Bloodless conflict is kinda fun, but, at the same time, we can be careful not to go overboard and drive away good members.

There was more nastiness towards players last year (and during any basketball season) than there has so far this year and the renewal of voting has helped a lot. I think 2014 is better than either 2010 or 2013 because most people came to the same sad conclusion early in the season.

Nah, don't send it to Brian first.  That's not the lesson here.

What makes this blog such a great resource--especially to those of us who no longer live in AA, or even in SE Michigan--is that here people post things when they hear them.

True, sometimes posters are mistaken.  But that's alright.  I'd much prefer to catch the first whiff of rumor than wait multiple weeks for The Powers to verify and break the story.

What this incident proves is that when the story's big enough, The Powers will still take the time to verify it, if they can.  Even when someone else posts the story first.

Keep posting, one and all!

As they say, "Life is what happens when you're making other plans."

If the worst thing that happens to you is that someone doubted, for a brief period, your "voracity" well, you've either been wildly successful or stayed indoors with the shades drawn.

And at the end of the day, this is just a fan site. Sure, many of us put a lot of time into it because it's a community of common interest, but it's just a website nonetheless.

After all, the worst that can happen is that you create a new account called "Son of Section 1."
