I am Schadenfreude

Yes I should be bigger than this, but unfortunately I am not. Admitting it is the first step in the process. Saturday was probably the most delicious afternoon and evening I have spent in a looong time. As a pre-game snack, one rival gacks up a come-from-behind loss to a MAC team in their home stadium. Nice, but not very filling. I guess all the snickering at the press conference when they announced they would play all the Michigan schools, be “the” school for the state of Michigan and how old Bill Martin was “notified” har, har is looking really great right now. However, the main course was even more than hoped for by pulling victory out in the very end, in our home stadium, as an underdog, against rival #2. I can add no other words that have not already been spoken, absolutely incredible. Charlie’s look of befuddlement was all that was needed at the end of that contest, I really don’t think he could believe that it really happened. Not to be just left in a Thanksgiving-type food coma, rival #3 capped the evening off in a way only very few can with a special dessert. I give them props for playing the big boys, but they really one upped themselves by letting Barkley lead that final march after a game of offensive ineptitude. The entire stadium knew it was over when USC scored in the end, the disaster that was their 2 minute offense only punctuated the point as the forlorn faces of the fans on the cameras said it all. Three rivals, all falling on the same day with come from behind losses, with one delivered by our own hand. Delicious. Now, you could have a very rational argument saying I should root for the conference. You are correct. You could also tell me that we can still lose to two of the above teams, you may be correct there as well. I am not delusional enough to think we are all the way back. However, after a 3-9 season, with every troll and their brother piling on at every chance, I’ll be damned if I won’t have an extra spring in my step this week knowing they will all be wondering what went wrong while I savor a great, great victory.

I am with you 100%. Watching State fall was one of the best things I could have seen (minus Michigan winning). I guess the dynasty is starting to slide. It happens everytime.

I'm pretty sure it comes from the Comic Book Guy in the Simpsons. His catchphrase is "Worst. [Insert noun]. Ever." The first episode I remember him saying this in was when Homer is made the voice of "Poochie", the character added to Itchy and Scratchy to make the show more cool. Everyone hates the first episode and really hates the new character...at the end of that first episode the comic book guy declares "WORST. EPISODE. EVER." And thus the catchphrase was born. I think it was satirical play on fans of the Simpsons. People started saying "Best. [Insert noun]. Ever." after that as well. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think that is where it came from.

So does CMU own the state of Michigan now? Or does Michigan State get to keep the imaginary crown they made for themselves even after Central broke their hearts?
