Husker fans aren't eager to go to Orlando

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20121228/SPORTS0203/212280441/1361/Ne...

Nebraska fans have a reputation for being extremely devoted bowl travelers, but the embarrassment in the B1G title game (perhaps coupled with the fact that this is their second straight trip to Orlando) seems to be keeping them away this time.

Personally, I think the league needs some new bowl sites.  Do we really need to send teams to Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville?  Going to Florida all the time gets old.  I miss the Holiday Bowl.

the Big Ten has some pretty solid partnerships. I would like to see the Big Ten add another West Coast game (either Holiday Bowl in San Diego or Kraft Fight Hunger in San Francisco). But subbing out San Antonio, Nashville, & El Paso for Jacksonville, Houston, & Dallas was a win in my view.

Yeah, I'll agree with that.  I've been to San Antonio and it's a cool town, and although I've never been to Jacksonville, I've never heard anything good.

That said, Jacksonville might be better as a Big Ten bowl destination as it's closer to the schools and alumni bases.  There are a lot of Big Ten alumni in Florida, and Jacksonville is driveable from many of the Big Ten states, whereas San Antonio is not.

Looking at the map, what other cities could host?

Denver seems like a missed opportunity. Yeah, it's a little cold, but it's usually warmer than people think. Highs in the next week range from 30 to 48.

If there are bowl games in Detroit and New York, why not Chicago and Boston. Weather, I know. But would you rather go to Orlando or Boston? It's not like Orlando is 85 degrees right now anyway.

Kansas City can be fun.

Why do they need three stadiums?  Play them all in the same stadium.  Many stadiums have mulitple bowl games - off the top of my head Qualcomm in SD has the Poinsettia and Holiday Bowl, and the game going on right now is in the same stadium as the Capital One bowl.

As long as you have a day or two in between bowls, you're fine.  In fact, you might get some fans to attend more than one of the bowls, which would help attendance.

Host minor bowls in the same stadiums as major bowls one or two days ahead of time. Work with hotels to create special discount weeklong packages. Offer tickets to both bowls for the same price as one (the more expensive one) when you book a weeklong stay. You can even sell tickets through hotel networks so the area tourism committee helps foot the bill for sales staff.

As I recall they had quite the fight to get that bowl game there. Great city though.

That being said, 40-45 degrees is not Orlando.

I can't blame them. One of my good friends is a Husker fan and he has no desire to go to the same bowl 2 years in a row, especially after a vicious beat down against Wisconsin.

And honestly, if they thought the Wisconsin game was bad, now they have to play a team with a far better defense and one that was one play away from getting to the national title game. Georgia will vent all of its frustration on Nebraska, and this game could be over by the half.

It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk

While I agree that the conference could use some new bowl sites, there's absolutely no sympathy for Husker fans.  If the refs hadn't gift wrapped some games for them this year and the sports GODs given them 3 quarters against a Denardless Michigan team, they would currently be at a worse bowl game this holiday season.

Also, their embarrassment of the conference title game is on par with the endless times Tom Osborn ran up the score to 70+ points on opponents.  The shoe is on the other foot now.  Suck it up, cheer your team and enjoy a trip to Florida.
