Hunter Johnson Supplants Dylan McCaffrey As New No. 1 QB in 247Sports Composite
Interesting tidbit from 247Sports. I'm sure there will be plenty more ranking shakeups before it's all over. Regardless of final rank, I like McCaffrey's lineage and the added bonus of QB Whisperer Jim Harbaugh as determinates for future college performance.
GO BLUE!.
Clemson commit Hunter Johnson (Brownsburg, Ind./High) moved up five spots to No. 17 overall, taking back the top spot in the quarterback rankings from Michigan commit Dylan McCaffrey (Littleton, Colo./Valor Christian) who checks in at No. 22.

Interesting when you consider both still have a senior season to play.
plus I seem to recall a former #1 qb recruit being a bust (mr pickles, aka 4-trophy promiser) so I'm fine with this ranking, for now. although I guess #2 (mallet) had his own issues that year...
irrelevant history aside, I love me some McCaffery. super excited for what he brings to the table
wink.
that comment entertained me hatter, just thought you should know.
Doesn't matter. Plus, there's still another season of football to settle who's #1.
I will take Dylan McCaffrey any day over any other QB right now. Sports Illustrated did a great article on his brother Christian a month ago, that also provides a lot of insight into his family, upbringing, and athletic lineage. There's also some good bits in there about Dylan. Great read:

his intangibles did some tangibl-ing within the last month.
etc.
someway, this is Nick Saban's fault.
247 used to be such a good recruiting service
Boo. Still a long way to go with the rankings for 2017.
Eh. What this means is that Michigan and Clemson both have great QB commits. Recruiting rankings are indeed a good big-picture tool to evaluate quality of recruits, but at this level the fact that McCaffrey (whose 22 ranking is still incredibly robust for a QB) got jumped a few spots by a guy who we may never play against means little.
And we all know it, which is why nobody on this thread has said anything even mildly serious that is bad about 247.
I would have to brush up on my QB recruiting history, but my recollection is that QBs are rather variable in their per-ranking performance; coaching and teammates matter everywhere, but it is even more of an issue with QBs where the tools necessary to be great aren't yet fully developed or revealed.
Of course, neither of these guys are a sure, sure thing, which is why Harbaugh wisely recruits a good QB every year. Unlike some other coaches I can think of.
he earned tons of praise last summer for his camp performances, yet when watching him against Peters in their game last year, Peters was the superior player.
I'll take the guy that Harbaugh prioritizes, and from all the chatter I could gather, Peters was 1b to KJ Costello, and Harbaugh had a chance to pursue Eason late(after Richt was fired), but didn't do it so as not to upset the applecart with Peters.
And he also prioritized McCaffrey in the 2017 class. Johnson was committed to Tennessee and now Clemson, but Harbaugh hasn't let that stop him from pursuing other prospects that he really wants.
Looks like Harbaugh is landing who he really wants to land at the QB spot, and his evaluations are a heck of a lot more valuable than a recruiting site.

Absolutely! Remember when Harbaugh drafted some no-name out of college? Next thing we all knew, that no-name rookie was starting in the Super Bowl.
I'll take Harbaugh's word over some spread-freak like Dabo Swinney. I wish Hunter luck, but he probably won't do much in the NFL as a spread option QB.

I like it, those two seem to be the clear leaders for top qb. I bet they view it as a rivalry and competition. What is the over/under on how many times the rankings swing back and forth.

Johnson reminds me of Christian Hackenberg.
