Hugh Freeze keeps publicly complaining about how hard his job is

Submitted by SAMgO on

First off, let's all take a moment to remember the quality time Hugh Freeze used to be able to spend with his beautiful family before these pesky satellite camps became all the rage.

Now that that's over, Hugh is at it again at SEC media days: http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/hugh-freeze-no-coach-can…

Sorry Hugh, but at $5.14 mil a year I think we can expect you to have a pretty good handle on just about everything that's happening with the Ole Miss football team. Oh and you have an entire compliance department? And it's their job to make sure you're not, ya know, paying players? How will you manage it all?

that nobody outside of Oxford likes this guy.  It's one thing to cheat, it's another thing to cheat, lie about it, then act like you're the victim.

"I think it's very rare for a kid that has left a program to cooperate. I have heard that he is willing to from just talking to our counsel and stuff. Where that stands at this point, I have no idea."

Strange choice of words. If nothing bad was happening, he should encourage Tunsil to talk so he can clear the air on these misconceptions. It could be construed as a warning not to snitch since cooperation would be so rare, Tunsil should not do this either and be the exception.

If Hugh Freeze had half a brain he would shut the hell up.  With the dumpster fires at PSU and Baylor still blazing strong, his program hasn't gotten that much media attention considering the violations.

I agree with Hugh. It's dang hard to stop boosters from enticing 5 star recruits with large cash payments. I'm starting to choke up just thinking about his difficulties...

"I don't think there's any head coach at our level that can control everything that happens in this day in time."

It's not about controlling everything, it's about being responsible for the culture of your program. That should be all the more apparent with Baylor and PSU headlines.

Always thought it was funny how
ole miss was a bottom feeder SEC school and "immediately" had a top 10 recruiting class pulling top recruits.

I know most of know that but just funny to watch the process and say I told you so.

Now we know why Treadmill never made it to Michigan when many said he was a lock!!!

There was a great post on Reddit (that I'm too lazy to drag up right now) that looked at the recruits they started getting and how, statistically, the way they were distributed was highly indicative of cheating. Might have even been written by an mgoblogger.

Anyway, the idea was that instead of having a bunch of near top recruits, evenly distributed between say the first and 15th best at their position and a higher percentage near the lower end of that range (which would still be good recruiting), they had a bimodal distribution of high percentages of the very best players at a number of positions and much lower rated players outside of that.

Interesting way of looking at it, and hey, it confirms MY suspicion that they're cheating, so I'm gonna go ahead and say it's highly accurate.

I make 80k a year working 6 days a week busting my ass 50+ hours week. While coaching football for basically pennies in the fall. Oh and I have 18 and 2 month old boys.

In all fairness, he has a point. Even Harbaugh/UM athletic department self reported 10+ minor violations. Of course because it's Hugh Freeze it seems like a BS cover up, but there's some validity to it. Even a program as clean as ours still commits at least secondary violations despite every effort to comply.

trivial mistakes. Remember that too much stretching and a QC coach with a taped up ball were major violations in the NCAA nomenclature. Ole Miss has been accused of a variety of far more serious violations than those.

There's a basic rule of thumb to remember; the head coach always knows what's going on with his program. Always. They don't see everything personally, but they have a network of people that keep them informed. If they don't know about cheating going on, it's because they made a conscious effort not to know. In other words, they do know, they just don't know all the details.

"Just think about this: The percentage of our team involved in those allegations, go look at it, I think you'll find it's a very, very small percentage of our staff and our players," he said.

So is this supposed to make everything okay?  Only a few guys are getting paid, so it's not so bad!  And only a few members of the football staff, too, not all of them!

What a dipshit.

"Freeze said the season could be affected if he doesn't lead the current players properly. "Just think about this: The percentage of our team involved in those allegations, go look at it, I think you'll find it's a very, very small percentage of our staff and our players," he said." I had to read this twice because I couldn't believe he would be dumb enough to make a comment like this.

Funny, the article talking about how far their recruiting has fallen. Where its fallen to is still above the level it would be at had they never hired freeze and started paying players in the first place. They're still ahead of their traditional garbage levels, they just aren't a national power anymore without the dropping of fat stacks.
