HTTV release party

Submitted by Blazefire on

I just wanted to say thank to everyone who came out to Underground Printing today for the HTTV release event. A number of people showed up, including the full MGoStaff, and it was great to meet them all. Were you there? Post your notes if you were. My notes:

Brian seemed less hairy than expected. I think Troy Polamalu stole his suave.

Most of the staff brought their wives. They were wonderful ladies and fantastic conversationalists. Plus, the MGoStaff could totally coach at Vanderbilt. Whoo!

I'm trying to remember everyone I met. I know that Brian, Ace, Heiko, Chewer_D, Misopogon, Misopogal, LSAClassof2000 and M-Wolverine were there. Lots and lots of other too that I know I'm forgetting. I wish I didn't have to run off so fast. We could've all wandered over to the Jug for a round.

Um, so I've been checking in my mailbox every day for DAT HTTV 2012 (!!!), but does anyone know when we can expect them? Also, the shirt?

i almost asked if you were there several times, but never actually did. i wanted to yell "fucking tea partying bastard" at you without getting moderated. also to mention that i'm joining you in section 1, courtesy of my tea partying bastard parents, next year. but at least this means i can stop worrying that you're actually my dad, who could've just been pretending not to be on mgoblog.

edit: note to mods: i'm pretty sure that won't really offend section 1, but obviously it breaks the rules. just leave it up a little bit if you don't mind so he has a chance to see it, y'know, in case he really is my dad and just paid some guy to show up pretending to be section 1 to throw me off the trail.

I am your father...

Naturally, if you had been willing to buy me a beer, you could have said anything you want to about me. Bad-mouth Rodriguez, and we'd have torn the place up. You understand, I'm sure.

I really wished I could have stayed and chatted longer, but I had to collect the kids from the in-laws so they could hit a few graduation parties. It was great to finally put faces with user names. I  did get the opportunity to chat with at least a few people, and people seem to be as entertaining in person as they are on the blog, which makes me think we should find excuses to do this occasionally.

I have also delved into the magazine a bit, though I should pace myself lest I am left yearning for September 1st even more than I do now.

that is the main thing i learned.

also, like brian, one of the owners of underground printing has an engineering degree, providing yet more evidence that engineering degrees are useless and you all should've majored in a humanities field where you'd actually be using your degree, like me.

other than the blog/store staff, the only person i really talked to was ND Sux. very nice guy.

i may or may not have avoided putting on a nametag in case M-Wolverine was there, as i thought he'd probably have a good case for punching me for some snark this past week.

(though I don't know how the bar portion went later....had to get Mrs. Wolverine to take to a going away party....then another thing...but there might have been brawls after the beers). I had my name tag on. I think we could have avoided blows. We all have our Internet moments. If I took long term offense with what is said on here I'd either be an emotional cripple, or hunting you all down one by one. Hmmm, maybe you did the right thing... Seriously, I know snark gets snark back, and I'm not going to give without getting. I can handle it. I mean, now I'm sorry I didn't mark Section 1 there...and we e-hate each other. There was one older guy who I thought was Borges...but I was more worried for Heiko's safety than who it actually was.

that I talked to with Seth for awhile (no name tag?).  Great talking to you, as with everyone else as well.  No surprise that all the guys I met today were very cool.  Ms. ND Sux and I had a good time, and washed it down with some Blue Tractor brews.  Just got home, but love AA no matter what the occasion.  Go blue.

Edit: Sorry, this post was to Jon06, who I believe showed me his awesome wedding pic, or maybe you were the photography guy?  Either way, I enjoyed talking with everyone.

it occurred to me that i hadn't ever actually told you my name around the time you starting saying goodbye. i'm used to meet-and-greets involving big shot professors who don't really care about meeting a grad student, so i usually don't tell people my name until i manage to say something interesting enough to make them bother to ask. bad habit.

at any rate, it was cool to meet you. totally jealous of the motorcycle, even though i'm still a little sad "bike" didn't mean a Taylor Twosie.

I'm kind of glad I couldn't go for one reason only.

This way I get to keep imagining of the MGoStaff and other prominent members how I think they are and not who they really are. I don't want to ruin the illusion

We are all a bunch of MGoNerds*. And from the sampling and personal experience, have all traded WAY up for our wives/girlfriends. That's the MGBlog Difference: brains, and sweet, sweet wooing skillz. Either that, or an enormous collection of genitalia. But like I said above....it wasn't that kind of party. And Brian is a good sport for doing it because meeting a bunch of strangers who follow everything he does didn't seem COMPLETELY uncomfortable. Though I'm pretty sure it wasn't in his top ten of things to do. (Or 100). (*except Heiko. He's dreamy. And will be richer than any of us. ;-)

I sort of walked away with similar  conclusions actually, and indeed, it made me sort of wish I that my Swedish / Italian (yes, she is both of these) wife had wanted to come as well, but as you said, not that sort of occasion. It is great to see that we care about this community - even if it is largely virtual - and make time to support it because we share its passion for things Michigan.

"And from the sampling and personal experience, have all traded WAY up for our wives/girlfriends."

You should feel bad for leaving out the oodles and oodles of chicks with hot husbands/boyfriends who read this site.

ND Sux, Jamiemac came in later, Brian's wife, can't remember exactly how his name goes but AnthonyThomas###something. Talked to him a bit, but the exact name is slipping from me. A guy from the video staff. Seth's "little sister". And Heiko's girlfriend(?). Others too, that I'm also forgetting. I'm more a face person than names. Could still remember what everyone looks like, but the name tags slip my mind. I mean, some people had only REAL names....

Enjoyed talking with everyone I met.  Brian looks younger in person IMO...although I haven't really seen him that much.  Good people all around.  Can't wait to read HTTV, and for the season to start Fergodsakes.

as you were heading out.  Got to see who you were, but that's about it.  Catch you another time, sir.  I (and Ms. ND Sux) enjoy your contributions to the board.

So disappointed I couldn't go. The one place and time on earth where I could brag about the fact that I had no life whatsoever for a few years and racked up absurd amounts of MGoPoints and I missed it!

Sounds like a blast though, I'd love to see a picture post, and maybe this could be done again next year!

You know, tennis and skateboarding really is somewhat fascinating, when on a bank of HD screens.

Thanks for the gathering, Brian, that was a fun time.
