How you would feel if Michigan and Michigan St stopped playing?

Watching the halftime segment of the Texas-Texas A&M got me thinking about our own little brother. So I wanted to know how would everyone feel if we stopped playing State.

M dominates them in acedemics.  Each of our colleges are in the top 10.  Every graduate program is in the top 5.  Moo U isnt even close.

They have to resort to giving away tickets to their home games when they only hold 80,000.  We hold 30,000 more and we have to fight to get one of those.

There is only one recruit that chose Moo U over M only because he didnt have the grades.

USN&WR reported that over 50% of the Moo U students applied to M and were rejected.  So it confirms the old addage "If you cant get into college, go to state".

We hold a 2 to 1 lead in football wins lifetime.  Our basketball team is back and we smoke them in Hockey.

In the entire history of the NCAA there is only one school that won NC in all 4 major men's sports.  Can you name that school?   HINT:  Its not Moo U.

The data is clear.  The debate is over.  Moo U is not and will never be anything like M.  It is not arrogance, its the facts.

Think of them as reacting to this situation the same way we would be if ohio were taken off the schedule.  When Michigan kicked their asses in the 90's, would anyone want to have taken them off the schedule since Michigan was so dominat?  How about now?  No one in ohio wants to take Michigan off the schedule even though they have won the past 7 (well technically 6 due to forfeit).

I am not denying that it would be great for a team to end a rivalry winning the last four.  Hell, coaches do that kind of thing all the time.  You just never want your biggest rivalry to ever end, regardless of how lopsided it has been in recent years.

your comparison of OSU and MSU seems to me like you view them as equal...  UM - OSU is a true rivaly, UM - MSU is a rivaly b/c we share the same state and they think they can consistently compete with us (with the exception of the last few years).  MSU knows their run is over (as their success depended on our recruiting failure).  OSU on the other hand has always had talent, and will continue to have talent.  So if it was actually possible for MSU to break off the matchup, this would be their perfect time to do it.

Here is a better example, think Texas and Texas A&M, I'll let you decide who is who...

How awesome would it be to have the dump that is Spartan Stadium razed to the ground.

This is true.  Nobody who does not live in Michigan would care.

I am not from Michigan.  I knew almost nothing about Michigan State until I attended school at Michigan.  When I told people back home where I went to school, they would think that Michigan and Michigan State were the same thing . . .  "That's that school with the big stadium and the cool helmets, right?"  I would just smile and say "Right" to save time.

If MSU left for another conference and we did not play them anymore, I would not care.  As long as that slot in the schedule was filled by another B1G team.

They are just another school.  It's only within Michigan that they mean anything, and that is just because of proximity and the annoyance factor.

That's life, kids.  You are where you are in the food chain.  Would Duke care if they never played Michigan again in hoops?  Not really.  Is what it is.

It isn't that the rivalry isn't a big deal, it is just that it isn't the biggest deal.  Of course you want to beat an in-state school and typically compete with them, but in comparison with ohio, elminating MSU from the schedule would be a far less unfavored move than removing ohio.

Texas just has an AD who happens to be a huge douche. I feel like losing the MSU game would mean more to them than us. Not only is it the biggest game for them every season, but it is one of the few chances they get for National recognition each year. They don't get very many chances in primetime.

Michigan State is 1B to OSU's 1A of our biggest rivals. There's no way around it. Yes, the OSU game annually is huge and our biggest of the year - can't stand their fans and love driving through Ohio rocking Michigan shit. But anyone who say's that we don't care about MSU, they only care about us etc. doesn't really know what they are talking about.

MSU is our rival. Bottom line. MSU is one of our biggest rivals. While we have owned them in Football historically and even in the not so distant past, this game is still big to the players and the program. Add to the fact that most of the Michigan based students and Alumni (which is a good portion of our base) live and work with MSU Alums, this game is huge and IS indeed a true rivalry.

I would care a great deal and no TRUE Michigan football fan would say otherwise. That game is huge.
