I would care.  I would care a lot.  I would hate it if we stopped playing.  Sorry, I can't join in the Michigan Arrogance thing here.  It's fun to dismiss Sparty because it pisses them off, but still, you have to play that game.  You have to.

I mean, do you really want the rivalry to be defined only by basketball?

if we play EMU, WMU or CMU.  Why do I care if they play Moo U?  I know they are in our division but if they went to the Big East, I would care little.

They are not our rival.  Nuff said.

It's OK to have more than one rival. Right know State owns Michigan in football. It sucks balls losing to them 4 times in a row. It's a

Moot point, they'll always be on the schedule.

not call it "owning" us.  They have won 4 games in a row.  We still hold a 2:1 lead in wins overall.  So until they win 10 in a row, it is meaningless in the big picture.  Sure I want to beat them every game but I dont care about Moo U.

We are Moo U's only rivalry.  ND might qualify but ask ND, they will say USC and M.  Penn State is a trophy game for the "Land Grant Trophy" but a rivalry it is not.  Moo U is lost without us.  We are the Big Brother.

We still kill them in recruiting:  football, hockey, baseball and basketball (McGeary).  Our acedemics are superior (save D.V.M.).  Moo U is known for being a "teacher's college" but we rate higher.  So their best, most beloved program, is inferior to us.  What does that say?

Its not homerism.  Its the facts, plain and simple.  They will always be inferior to us. I didnt make this $hit up.

I really don't care about MSU at all. They are obnoxiuos whether they win or lose so it's not like the game matters to them at all. They would be just as obnoxious if we didn't play them. Ohio is by far our biggest rivalry and IMO the Irish are next (although I was born and have lived most of my life just outside of South Bend). In fact, I'm much more upset when we lose the Jug than I am when we lose that ugly lumberjack.

That said, we will always play them and so I hope we always destroy them. It makes them much easier to ignore.

you guys have to think beyond football.....

this situation would only come up if msu left the big ten to get out of our shadow (ala Texas A&m), so we would be losing them in all sports

yes, ohio is our biggest rival when it comes too football (nd might be second) and it isnt close

however, state is by far our biggest rival in EVERY other sport. What basketball game do I care most about? State.

What school inspired the "FYS" chants in hockey after they assulted a player on ice? State. IN fact, I care almost as much about killing state in hockey as I do beating ohio in football.

The thing I'm worried about is Michigan-ND ending when the 9 game B1G schedule comes. THAT rivalry means so much to me, at least. Just look at who the two schools are. All the great players, coaches, teams and games they've had. Dave Brandon said he cannot sacrifice a home game every other year when the 9-game schedule comes so the future looks bleak for Michigan-ND.
