Awesome 'Where the Red Fern Grows' reference...

I did a book report on that book in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade... sadly they wised up by 6th grade...

In a pure coincidence, I recently watched the Stephen King episode of Family Guy. Now whenever I see that screencap from Misery, my first thougt is Stewie, not Kathy Bates.

Michigan fans sound desparate because they are. Michigan football has sucked pretty dang hard since Bo died. They are 2-12 against OSU in the past 14 years and even 1-6 against MSU. The legacy Bo established is fading fast. If Harbaugh is off the table, for all we know the next best option is either known mediocrity (Schiano, Addazio) or... umm... I really don't know what else. Bill Sheridan? Teryl Austin? The program needs a Renaissance and everyone is hoping that's what Jim Harbaugh can provide.

But the truth is that the average fan has no connection to this search and their actions/attidues are completely irrelevant. This saga is about Jim Harbaugh and Jim Hackett.

but it's probably mostly a guess and wishful thinking on Brian's part. There is nothing substantive to back it up and there won't be until there is a definitive answer on Harbaugh. Just a few days ago Brian was 100% certain that Les Miles was the "worst-case scenario" and 48 hours later that's apparently off the table.

I would be all for Mullen if Harbaugh turns down the offer but there are a couple things that indicate it's unlikely. Mullen has given no indication he wants to leave and wasn't a player in the Florida and Nebraska jobs at all. I know there is alleged animosity with Florida, but Mullen himself was quoted as saying it would be a "lateral move" indicating he is determined to act as if Mississippi State is a premiere program in all this drama.

In addition, Michigan was unfortunately given a bad taste of the spread offense experience the first time around, and no doubt there would be backlash if Mullen was brought in. The admins are not going to want that to happen.
