How upset will Brian Be?

That he picked Michigan to lose by 2 points to Purdue (28-30) today only to have that be the exact margin of the loss game (36-38)? I'm not mad. I'm just infinitely sad. That might change if only he'd predict a 3 point win against Wisconsin next week with a side of last second Olesnavage.

I imagine he'll be very otter like, and kinda accept that this team just isn't that good. Again. Though we may get another drunk podcast.

has been slowing working his way toward somber realization since the Iowa game. I'm sure he'll have a kick ass write up just before the Ohio State game, but I bet his thoughts are already drifting to 2010.

Actually I blame Brian for every loss since he failed to include "HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL" for the key special teams matchup...

Sadness. Or, perhaps better stated, "No joy." I get no joy from watching this team. The first two games against WMU and ND notwithstanding, has anyone, really? If you'll permit me to be a bit philosophical at the moment, what really sucks about that, is that most of us who cheer for UM and live in the State of Michigan don't have much to be joyous about these days. At the very least, we used to be able to count on winning Michigan teams as a bright spot in an otherwise shitty set of circumstances. I think I need a drink. "Bartender, a double bourbon please. Basil Hayden. Neat."

But losing SUCKS. There is nothing worse than losing. But we've hung tough in every game that we've lost except for Illinois and Penn State. I enjoyed this game, I enjoyed the MSU game, I enjoyed the Iowa game and every game is winning with Rich Rodriguez even with our tremendous attrition. And what do you mean? Last I checked the Tigers almost went to the playoffs, the Lions won a game, The Red Wings are still the class of the league, and the Pistons aren't terrible. Michigan basketball is in the top 25 and the hockey team is in the Top 10. Oh whoa is us... Stop with this self pity bs we don't have it that bad (besides the economy that really does suck)

The Red Wings are still the class of the league You haven't checked this season, then - they're 7-4-3, third in our division behind Chicago and Columbus, and tenth place in the conference. If the playoffs began today, we'd be two points out of the last seed. On the other hand, we're still a few games behind everyone else because of the Europe trip delaying the start of our "regular season" slightly. They're on a three game winning streak, and play Toronto tonight in what should be an easy win. And in phrases that should sound familiar to everyone, there was a lot of loss via attrition during the offseason, and there have been some key injuries.

On the whole, sports fans in this area have had it pretty good for some time now. On the pro sports level, the Wings, Pistons and Tigers have all either won championships or reached the final round since 2004. Not many other cities can make that claim for 3/4 of their pro franchises. Yeah, the Lions have sucked, but that's one team. And in college, Michigan has usually been good in two of the three marquee sports (football, men's basketball, hockey) in any given year. Yeah, it's a little annoying that we always seem to have one of the three (basketball for awhile, now football) lagging behind the other two in performance, but hey, we could do worse. And I don't think anyone expects our football program to remain at this level permanently.
