Im sure there is a conspiracy to play terrible music over and over.. The crowd stands lifeless as to say to our opponents "look we dont care either"...

Jack DID do a ton for the Detroit music scene when he was here, and has continued to do so after he went to Nashville.

-He's released singles by several Detroit-based artists, giving them national recognition in the process.  Heck, The Thornbills didn't even have a record out yet when he picked them for the Blue Series.  The next Blue Series release is from a Detroit teenager who's making a splash in the local club dance scene. 

-Last year, when the first three Stripes LP's got rereleased, one of the locations where they sold the limited-run split-color records was out of the trunk of a car in front of an abandoned firehouse in Southwest Detroit, with all proceeds going to a local church.  What a terrible guy he must be.

-One of his goals at Third Man is to eventually rerelease everything he's ever had a part in, which means a good chunk of his production and side-project work in Detroit is going to actually get a national audience this time around instead of a bunch of rare singles and albums from bands pretty much only Detroit fans know and love.

It's cool to bash Jack White, but the long and the short of it is that he felt he had reached his ceiling in Detroit, wanted to do something new in a new place, and went for it.    And I think, with TMR, he's reaching a broader audience than he ever has, and he's been more than accomodating in bringing a lot of really great Detroit acts to the national scene.

And, as a side note, Meg still lives in the area.

Please Dear Lord, make it stop. It was great during the UTL game, but every time we play it Michigan football becomes more generic and mainstream lame. Is it too much to ask for the slightest bit of originality in our stadium experience?

You want originality?  I'll give you originality.  How many other venues have the chuzpah to bust out "Why don't you Fill me up Buttercup" with less than five minutes to go against their most hated rival?

Now that's originality my friend.  Not many schools would dare to go there.

After the game I met up with my Uncle and Grandma (who were both also at the game in different sections) and after the initial conversation about how awesome beating Ohio is, we talked for like 10-15 minutes about what the soundboard guy was thinking with that selection.   Is there a back story or something?  Or was that just the worst soundboard selection of all time?

Love the Stripes, and while I think we have a bigger claim to the song than PSU (with Jack's and Meg's Detroit roots), I can't help but think that UM is copying Beaver Stadium every time I hear it played at the Big House.

Q:  Does the band and/or record label get royalties from every single instance that song is played in any stadium?  Because that would be facebook money I would imagine.
