Kelly fired after this season? That seems pretty far out there. ND would have to go 8-5 again or worse. Even at 8-5 I don't see Kelly getting canned. I don't see Urban as a realistic candidate. ND is loaded this year they will probably win at least 10 games.

This seems like an odd debate to get into but, who are those top 20 teams? Are Michigan (who finished 8-5) and MSU (who finished 7-6) included? Because technically yes they were top 20 at the time that ND played them.  And that was one of Borges' more infamously atrocious gameplans during his time at Michigan.

With major help from the officials against Stanford and Pitt. Stanford got robbed of a TD that broke the plane in OT. Pitt got called for a phantom pass interference that set up the game tying TD to send it to OT. Then in the 2nd OT, Pitt's shot at the game winning field goal was wide right but ND was offside and there was conveniently no flag or re-kick. Plus I recall a ND player taking a punch at a Pitt player and the ref doing nothing about it. So yeah. There was some major luck on their part.

I actually think ND had 12 players on the field. Either way Pitt was screwed on that call. Think ND wasn't lucky? Look at the national title game against Bama. That game was over mid way through the first quarter and Brent Musburger was telling everyone in America how he wanted to hook up with A.J. McCarron's girlfriend.

Okay but like I said, never a top 10 in the SEC, which means that almost every team he played against in conference had more talent than he did.  Also he never oversigned (apparently, anyway) which was an extra hurdle.

I hope Rich Rod stays at Arizona. I am a huge fan of his and don't want to root against him. Looking for big things to keep happening for him. My concern is that Sarkisian loses his job and RR takes over USC. He would kill it there.

Del Rio is probably their next coach...or someone considered a "splash" hire. Especially with Mora being somewhat successful just down the road.

I think he stays at Arizona, he's got no reason to leave...the Pac 12 is the 2nd best conference in the country. UF just got a new coach, FSU just won a national championship. I suppose he'd be mentioned for a Miami job, but that really doesn't make sense for him if he remains successful.

If he flames out...he'd be a steal at UCF or USF, IMO, he'd turn either into a Boise/TCU type. And they'd be in the ACC or Big XII after his success.

"he's got no reason to leave"

Dude, he's at the bottom rung of the Pac-12. I'm surprised to see people think RR no longer has any ambition to win an NC, or even getting conference championships fairly often. I'm not saying he will. Who knows what will happen, but I'd be very surprised if RR is happy long-term where he's at. Seems like Arizona is a step down from even WVU, at least when they were in the Big East with RR.

Not sure why RichRod would ever leave Arizona at this point. He's got to be extremely comfortable there. He's doing well, and the expectations aren't necessarily sky high like they are here.

I doubt he'd throw that all away to go somewhere where the pressure and expectations are considerably higher and risk another career disaster.

Clemson would be a good fit but I too doubt whether it would be a big enough draw to justify leaving Arizona. OTOH Clemson does probably afford a better shot at the playoff, the Pac-10 being much more grueling than the ACC. (At Clemson you'd have a much more realistic shot of that one loss or fewer season.)
