How much does Tate have banked?

Submitted by Route66 on
I just got done reading the "Hunch" thread about Tate and I would tend to agree that he could really shine this Saturday night under the lights. That thread got me thinking though. With what Tate has shown so far, how much of your grace has he banked? I mean what will it take for us SANE UofM fans to be like, "Okay, Tate, time to pull you head out of your a$$"? For me it will have to be a couple of back to back poor performances NEXT year. Everything this year is on a learning curve and with what he has shown he could still throw about 2 more OT picks and I would not be that mad. I also see his performances to date really helping the team for more all around reasons. The focus is now on him and how he can pretty much beat any* team if you pin him in a corner. This just opens the doors for others to fill in and take the pressure off. Please, others, just take the pressure off......like more than 28 yrds rushing...........kthnx *WMU/ND/EMU/IU's of this world.

He has banked a lot of good will. Add in that everytime he is writhing in pain on the field from an injury, my heart skips a few beats, I think barring a string of terrible games he has banked a ton of good will in my eyes. The fact that there is no realistic other QB option (I mean while Denard is exciting, I am fearful of his throws) also helps his cause. What worries me the most is his durability. Man am I jealous of other leagues' abilities to schedule a bye week!

It would take a stretch of consistent terrible play and decision making for me to get after Tate. If he would have pulled out the W at State - this week every person in CFB would be praising the hell out of him. For the most part, he does/says the right things off the field and plays well on the field....beat Iowa now

I'm indicting myself as well, but a thread that says, to paraphrase, "in the future, if Tate performed badly, in this future how much goodwill does he have before he runs out of it and future you criticizes him?" seems a bit much. Nevertheless, I do agree with your general sentiment after that. Just teasing a fellow fan.

I hear ya. I have found it hard to post much around these parts lately just because I can't bring anything new to the conversation. I thought this was intriguing though to think about considering how fast we turn on our team and players these days with the media and such. Even if he has back to back horrible games next year I will most likely never hate on him because of what he has earned this year so far. He truly has made things happen that would not be expected of seniors.

Tate should have alot of street cred with M fans right now. What could make me take that to a higher level would be to limit "freshman trying to do too much" mistakes. He's already curtailed his desire to try and get the corner on scrambles, now he just needs to work on when to just chuck the ball away and when to just take a sack. Those little mini-throws as he's being tackled that get called intentional grounding are killer. I don't think there's any risk of Tate becoming so bad (save an injury) that I'd be willing to turn on him.

It would take a massive fall for me to turn on him at any point. I was in Ann Arbor for all 4 years of Henne and I can't ever remember thinking I wish he was benched. And Tate has been better than Henne, so...

I think that by virtue of Tate carrying that 'gunslinger' mentality, he'll cost us a game here and there, throughout his career. Then again, we'll have to see how many games we win directly because of his playmaking. he's already made some 'wtf' decisions that, unfortunately, i don't think he'll ever completely rid himself of. it would take a lot for me to totally turn on him... to me, the key is to keep building up the talent around him, so he doesn't become Jake Locker part 2.

i dunno, anytime he tries to outrun a guy to the corner i'm already yelling at him saying stuff like "You're not in high school anymore" I'm a terrible person.
