It's like this:
Ohio State, Michigan State, everyone. I hope everyone loses always. Except Michigan.
It's like this:
Ohio State, Michigan State, everyone. I hope everyone loses always. Except Michigan.
I hate ohio, but not as much as I hate New Jersey!!!!!
For me it's football waaay more than any other sport. I have a hard time rooting for Ohio football under any circumstances, even if they are playing the SEC in a bowl game. It is rarely if ever in the best interest of UM for Ohio to ever win in football because we compete with them so much for everything that their victory does more harm than good in the long term even if it somehow helps UM get in a higher ranking. I still don't like Ohio for basketball, but way less so than football. And, I really don't care about any other sport other than a mild dislike. The only sport that I can say I'm emotionally invested in is football.
I will say that even though I hate them and almost always want them to lose, I do respect them and don't wish ill upon them unless they deserve it. Like, I don't want their players to get injured or anything. However, I do like to see them get punished by the NCAA when they do somthing wrong. That's about it for me.
I don't buy gas in their state.
Same here; I can just barely make it from Dundee to Cranberry and vice versa on a tank of gas.
Also, I always pay the toll in nickels and dimes and short it. They always threaten to count it out, but usually give up after a dollar or two. Only once have I been called out on it.
Can we get a special exemption for all things Toledo? I mean, it is rightfully part of Michigan and the Mud Hens and Walleyes... Zoo, Mathman? Also, a lot of people I know in Toledo are Wings, Tigers, UM fans. I think we can all agree on this, no?
I'm with you on that. Toledo has a lot of UM fans. I say we give it an asterisk.
Definitely an exemption for Toledo.
They should start up the war again and join Michigan.
Michigan just got the UP instead of beating the shit out of Ohio. I live in Toledo and bring this up everytime someone says, "How can you be a Michigan fan when you live in Ohio?"
My best friend in From Toledo, loves UM and the Wings, and while he is an Eastern Michigan Grad, he is getting married to a UM alum, so that and going to a shit ton of Mudhens games with my dad and fishing out of Toledo for Walleye in Eirie, much love!!
I never flush the toilet at their gas stations. If I succumb to paying for gas, that is.
Try eating some Taco Bell a few hours before you plan on driving through to really up the ante.
It's the only state I perform my rapes in.
If you want to go by what is posted here on the MGoBoard you would think Michigan State is our biggest rival. For me, I definitely feel that AA (most importantly, the student section) is much more amped up for OSU games (football and basketball) than any other team over the past three years.
this many times before. MSU is not our rival. A rival needs to be able to compete with us year after year. We compete with Ohio for recruits and they have a decent football team.
MSU does not compete with us in any metrics. We only compete on the athletic field, court or ice. The casual fan considers this a "rivalry game" but by definition, MSU is not a rival to most people that have a financial investment in our school. If you ask "Joe Football Fan" on the streets of Fowlerville, he will say MSU is a rival, when in actuality, they are not.
We have so much tradition (and hatred) for Ohio over the years: The Ten Year War I, the upcoming Ten Year War II, Tatgate, Fab Five, etc. Hell we even want to beat them in the annual blood drive every year. MSU is just another Big Ten conference that happens to be in close proximity to us.
The UM/MSU game does not even get on regional TV and is relegated to BTN Channel 3. However, UM/ohio is the prime time game every single year.
I hope ohio suffers the same fate as the last chief rival, Chicago. Drops athletics and then brings them back 20 years later at the D3 level.
But really. If you expect me to want to hate ohio in hockey like I do state, I'm sorry. It's hard to take serious a team you kick around so easily and beat 21-0 at one point. Yes, 21-0 in a hockey game.
And in basketball, again, sorry. But ohio didn't run up the score on Michigan in 2000. Their basketball fans are annoying, but when you remind them the fact that they haven't won a national title since before the PARENTS of the current players were born, it usually shuts them up.
I'm in college here at UM and my parents definitely weren't born in 1980 . . .
The Buckeyes won their last NCG in Basketball in 1960. I think that's what he's talking about.
This is correct - rivals always change with different sports. For instance, when the Big Ten lacrosse league starts (if it starts relatively soon) I'm sure OSU will get geared up for PSU and Maryland more than us, simply because those will be the teams giving them the most competition for the championship. It will be a big game just because it's us and them, but not always the biggest on the schedule for every sport.
I also bet the softball girls don't see OSU as their biggest rival.
I hate driving through that piece of shit state. It is the most ugly and boring state to drive through and, to make matters worse, I have to watch my speed all the time since those asshole cops want to pull my Michigan plated car over for going over 60mph. Living in metro Detroit just about forces me to spend part of any out-of-state road trip driving through Ohio. I hope all their damn teams lose. Screw Ohio!!!
At least the Turnpike has really nice rest stops, you know, in case you want to drop off some shit when you're just passing through.
I tend to dislike the state too, but I will say as a strength coach they do have a good reputation for strength training as there are a ton of good coaches, trainers, and training facilities like Westside Barbell. And, many of the kids that come out of OH have a better strength training background than kids from other states. During my undergrad in Connecticut three of my exercise science professors went to OSU. It was super annoying.
A solid state...uhh no. I live in SE Michigan and if I can I stay out of Toledo I do. Such a depressing city.
The speed limits are stupid which causes most of the drivers to drive like idiots and police will give you a ticket for farting while driving.
I'm stuck in Columbus. And aside from the annoying Buckeye fans, it's actually a pretty awesome place to live. Job market isn't bad, the cost of living isn't crazy, and my taxes, while high, aren't outrageous. I love Michigan, but the State of Ohio itself isn't worth hating - just tOSU athletics and their worst fans.
I'm afraid I know; adolescent-level posters on MGoBlog.
Do any of you care to tell Jake Ryan (Westlake) that his home state is shithole? Frank Clark and Willile Henry (Glenville)? Fitz Toussaint (Youngstown)? Jibreel Black (Cincinnati)?
I mean, to their faces. Like, repeating any of the embarassing trashtalk featured in this thread, to a serious person. And a serious person who could kick your ass if he bothered to think anything of it other than a waste of his time. Add to the list of ass-kickers Joe Bolden (Cincinnati), Kyle Kalis (Lakewood) and Dymonte Thomas (Alliance). All from Ohio. Antonio Poole (Winton Woods) probably won't mind you telling him he is from a shithole.
Ben Gedeon is from beautiful Hudson, Ohio. So is he from a "shithole"? We've got guys who aren't just from Ohio; we've got guys who are virtually from Columbus, Ohio: Jake Butt and Taco Charlton are from Pickerington, over on the east side of Columbus. Jaron Dukes is from the south side of town. Keith Hetizman is from Hilliard which is, well, sort of the middle of Columbus.
You want to spread the Ohio-hate to Courtney Avery (Mansfield), Ross Douglas (Avon), Jarrod Wilson (Akron) and Allen Gant (Sylvania)? Don't forget Jack Miller, from Perrysburg. And as long as you are insulting guys from Ohio, you might as well include Chris Wormley (Toledo).
Mike McCray and Reon Dawson (Trotwood) probably can't wait to get here and hear about the shithole they grew up in together. Where McCray's dad went to school and played football. Ditto Deveon Smith, from Warren. I can't even count the number of Michigan football players we've gotten from Warren.
We don't even need to dwell on the Ohioans who were instrumental in making Michigan football what it is today -- Bo Schembechler, Gary Moeller, Brady Hoke. Or two of our Heisman winners, Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson. Or the dozens of Ohio-born and bred All-Americans at Michigan.
Don't hate the state. Hate the morons in the state that hate Michigan.
Long time reader just started posting. Why do you always seem so emotionally charged in your posts? I agree with some things you post but it is how you come off like it is life and death FYI not everyone on the internet is going to always share your opinion.
First off, don't equate Detroit and Michigan. Cleveland sucks too, by the way, and it's not like Youngstown is Pleasantville.
But you can't say "if not for the best things there, it would suck" because obviouslty. If not for the ocean Florida would suck and if not for the mountains Colorado would suck.
Though I would also argue that Michigan has the best inland lakes of any state in the Union, and that's another huge advantage Michigan has over Ohio.
I've lived in both states, and I'm not going to say Ohio has no redeeming qualities, but comparing the two against each other - I think Michigan takes the cake.
I'm not being a childish dickwad at all. I'm agreeing that Ohio isn't all bad, but that Michigan has more going for it than Ohio.
Detroit is also on the upswing. Grand Rapids is a great town for its size as well, and we all know about AA. I will not agree with you that Ohio and Michigan are the same, not even close. Ohio has nothing that can compete with Northern Michigan, nothing that can compete with the Lake Michigan Shore, nothing that can compete with Mackinac Island (and bridge) and the UP. There's no Lake Charlevoix or Torch Lake or Higgins. I have a framed picture of Sleeping Bear Dunes in my house - Ohio has nothing that looks anything like that. Michigan has a lot to offer that Ohio does not.
You sound like you are defending Detroit.
Switch southern Ohio with northern Illinois and you've pretty much described Illinois, too.
If it wasn't for the fact that Michigan has more coastline than any other state save Alaska, it would be just like Ohio.
I live in a suburb of Detroit. It's close to the city but it is not in the city. Michigan has a lot more to see on a road trip than that shit hole Ohio. The streets of Detroit are not what I am referring to.
At least Ohio had the common decency to raise the speed limit on the turnpike to 70
...now for the other 99.9% of the state, that's an ongoing issue
Clearly, their neurons fire at a slower rate, resulting in higher speeds being unsafe for Ohio natives. Sad that the rest of us have to sink to their level whilst driving through their state -- which is unpleasant enough on its own.
On the other hand, perhaps the state knows that lowering speeds is the only way to get people to stay in Ohio a bit longer.
I kind of like all the teams.
How much time you got?
If Ohio played Russia, I would route for Russia.
Haha DC. How much time you got there? Classic
I would rather ingest diahhrea off the floor of a Walmart with a Taco Bell inside than ever root for anything Ohio.
Well all of my in-laws live in that state so...
Only time I stop in Ohio is to take a dump!
I only "hate" Ohio in a kayfabe kind of sense. Comparing the rivalry to the one with Sparty, while I "hate" both, I respect Ohio. I have absolutely no respect for Sparty. I don't decide who to cheer for, but I just let it happen in the moment; I cheered for Ohio in the NCAA Tournament this season, but always cheered against Sparty.
To me, the difference is easy to determine. Ohio is a rival; Sparty is a remora.
What has ohio ever done for you to respect them?
Well, they win a lot. There's that. Just sayin'.
Listen, it's fun hating Ohio State, but if you can't recognize that Michigan draws a sizable portion of its brand, value, and ineffable Michigan-ness from Ohio State, and vice versa, then you gotta grow up a bit and smell the coffee.
I have to +1 you for enhancing my vocabulary. I had literally never heard of the term "kayfabe" until your post. But I looked it up, and it makes perfect sense.
I don't ever read/hear the word kayfabe anywhere else.
In '81. Riverside Hospital. Lived in Upper Arlington until I was 12. Home of The Bear. My entire family outside Mum and Dad were then, and are still now working at U of M. So at school, when they would do the Pledge, what would follow everyday, on que, was the suckeye bight song. For real. I would stand with posture during the Pledge. I would protest and sit my little ass down during the nest collection of duh-duh-duh, duhduhduhduhs. Times were great then! Cooper era. In the thick of it. Cherish those days. I just recently got the hotdog water smell off of me for having lived there for over a decade so things are looking up! North. GO BLUE!!!
I grew up there. One of my parents is a Michigan alum.
So, a lot.
I get a kick out of the Ohio people on a Michigan blog. Stay the F out !!!
I'll vote "no" to that motion. I want Ohio sports to do well right up until we punch them out. Much more satisfactory.
Ohio fans on the board provide amusement at the least, and insight at the best. I respect there gall to be here, and want them to be right up until game time, and then want them to be so wrong.
MSu fans I don't care about. I don't respect the school enough to respect its fans, even the ones I like without respecting them.
Considering your username.
Well that's like 10,000 spoons alright.
Let me put it this way, if the university of douche suddenly joined the big ten and Satan was the A.D., Saddam Hussein was the HC, and Osama Bin Laden was the OC. I would root for them over ohio.
Sounds like a good 15th team to me...
I'm pretty sure that if such a university existed Jim Delany would add them to the conference in a heartbeat to establish a foothold with the Middle East demographic
Definitely the spread
I think he would throw the bomb.
I'm going with the pistol...or, perhaps, whatever the Navy (Seals) team runs...
The run 'n shoot
Runs everything primarily out of the shotgun. Down...set....allah, allah!
Cedar Point is fun, but other than that I have no use for the state (which implies no use for OSU).
I only root for Ohio when they play Duke in basketball. Otherwise I have no incentive to root for Ohio.
Moved into a new house in september of last year. Noticed the neighbor was wearing and OSU shirt.
I will not be lending him sugar. Ever.
I dislike Ohio the school plenty. I don't understand all the hate for the actual state and everything associated with it, though, as many people near and dear to all of our hearts came from Ohio. To name a few, our Naismith Award winner, our current football coach, many of our current players, and many of the greatest football players in school history, including our two most recent Heisman winners.
to them as Ohio State. I hear that really pisses them off.
I will root for our servicemen and women from Ohio as they fight on our behalf.
as for sports, I don't root for any buckeye or sparty teams no matter the the game. I went to a Duke basketball game and was glad I was able to join the home crowd since the visiting team was the buckeyes.
I personally despise ohio. Always have, long before Hoke & Co. made it cool. I have friends who live and work in ohio and when I visit (extremely rare) I just feel dirty, like I am in the white trash capital of the world. The first time I ever visited I saw groups of grown men riding bikes to the bars. I asked a local who knew my friend what the deal was and she responded that they had likely lost their licenses to DUIs. That same night at a local hole in the wall bar I went to sing karaoke. I kiddingly joked that I would sing Juicy by Biggy. He told me he had never heard of the song. He found the lyrics, but he said the song was not available. He told me he could play 50 cent's in the club as background music. After I killed it the dj asked me how I knew that song. I responded back calmly with "I'm not from ohio" he shook his head in agreement. You just can't make his stuff up. I truly dislike ohio.
I love Hoke, but as far as Michigan thoroughly hating OSU, those seeds were sewn in the Schembechler days.
I don't mind the city of Cleveland, other than the Indians (oh how I hate the Indians), but other than that I hate everything about Ohio. I went to the frozen diamond face off and it seemed as though I was one of very few who had hatred towards Ohio hockey. Down to the fact they did a shit job of copying our helmets.
I hate the Indians too, if for nothing else having the most racially insensitive team mascot in professional sports. I mean is there anything about Chief Wahoo that isn't offensive to any Native American?
The Washington Redskins are pretty racist. At least unless they change their team mascot into a potato...
The state of Ohio isn't bad, the buckeyes and their fans are a different story.
At least Michigan has some hills. And tons of water. My sis lives in Cincinnati. That's pretty nice. I think it's the Buckeye fans. Buckeye fans are just insufferable, if you ask me. They go on and on, spelling out OHIO all the time, and then they get mad at us if we say "ohio". What the hell? And that drum at the Indians games, oy, it's like a vuvuzela.....
i went to Michigan post-martin scandal. our bball team was atrocious (they were giving tickets away). so the only sport i truly cared for was football.
i hate ohio and their cheating ways. i hate their fanbase and their pseudo-intelligent trash talking. i hate urban meyer and his smug face. most of all, i hate that they have had our number for years now.
but when i think about it, i feel bad for both schools because its far better to be a Wolverine than either.
because Dave Thomas was an Ohio booster. I loathe the Yankees because of Steinbrenner's ties ( who btw was responsible for the Drew Henson debacle). And I won't buy a Ford because WC Ford employed Russ Thomas (an Ohio grad) to run the Lions. That was dereliction at its finest!
Impressive...I like it!
That's a reason not to cheer for the lions, by old man Ford ha the good sense to push his booze hound son, WCF, out of FoMoCo, and put HF II in charge.
His real mistake was buying the Lions for WCF.
However, wcf was still collecting dividend checks from Ford Motor which in a roundabout way, paid for Russ Thomas salary. . . and no I never bought a Lions ticket in my entire life either.
Nothing drives Ohio State alumni and fans (take it from a guy banished to live amongst the heathen for the last decade) more crazy than simply telling them the truth, and that is that Michigan alumni and fans should ignore Ohio except when we play them. Don't be like the slappys who live in Ohio and define yourself and your love for your team by rooting against anyone else. What truly hurts them is when you ignore Ohio State...like we got to do basically during the Cooper years...We need those kind of years to come back! My focus is Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, and the rest of the B1G and the country are just fodder for the only team that counts!
I don't think ignoring ohio is the way to go. They focus quite a bit on the michigan game and it has shown this past decade. I think Michigan needs to do the exact same.
Players and coaches should always have intensity for a Michigan vs OSU game in anything, but fans and alumni need to learn that the best way to truly drive them Buckeyes nuts is to ignore them the rest of the year....What got OSU back was Tressel recruiting better talent while we slipped in terms of talent in the late Carr years and RR years....
Michigan definitely was not lacking in the talent department in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. We arguably had better talent and got our assed kicked by sweatervest. Oh and also 2001. Tressel had our # because he prepared for the game better.
I hate them so much that I will only party slightly hard when in Ohio.
I don't really hate the state itself, but I thoroughly despise Ohio State as well as their fans. I hate that they have inexplicably had our number for a decade. Every fiber of my being hopes they lose every game by 40+. It would be pure euphoria for me to watch Jake Ryan come off of Braxton Miller's blindside, and drill his ass into the ground so hard that Braxton forgets who he is for 10 minutes. I wouldn't wish injury on him, but watching him lie on the ground would be beautiful.
Having said all that, I do respect them. As far as little brother goes, I more pity them than dislike them, and my respect level for them is minimal to zero.
I agree with every statement you made !
A) they've out recruited UM
B) they've cheated
C) they've gotten a wrist slap because Gee and Emmert are college buddies.
D) Tressel usually outcoached Carr.
Cost of loss to MSU or OSU - MSU is worse because they are not just your little brother. They are your little brother's annoying friend who is going to fuck with you until you kick the crap out of him. He also knows that you don't have a chance to do that for a full year. OSU is full grown. Losing to them hurts but not like Sparty
Benefit of victory over MSU or OSU - OSU is a better feeling by far. When we beat them we know that we have overcome a machine. They are always capable of inflicting pain. When we win it is always an accomplishment (rather than expected with MSU).
Really? When we lost to sparty in 2011 but beat osu I couldn't have given less of a shit about the sparty game.
I remember sitting in Yost a few weeks after we'd beaten Ohio and turning to my buddy next to me and saying, "You know, the winter is so much better when we've beaten Ohio". He smiled and agreed.
I couldn't care less about Sparty. I'm completely confident that the historical trend in that series will continue into the future, despite all the false bravado being spouted by Dantonio and the mouth breathers on the RCMB. Star rankings matter, and the difference in talent has equated to MSU only winning 30% of the time againt MIchigan. That ain't gonna change folks.
I was talking about the acute effect of a win/loss over/against OSU or MSU. In the long run there is absolutely nothing like a win over OSU. A loss to Sparty, although acutely painful for the reasons above, is forgotten relatively quickly.
O-Lie-O is always enemy #1.....
Oh, sorry, wrong thread....
How much do I hate Ohio? A whole lot. Whenever driving, I try to avoid the state. If I must drive through it, I only stop to take a shit, since the state is only good for a sewer. I do not think of Ohians as people and wish the worst upon the state. I have emailed the governor and congressman to annex Cedar Point, since it is too good for Ohio. I always root against that damn school and all schools in Ohio (except when playing OSU). I only root for Ohio when it directly helps Michigan (like against MSU last year. I hate Ohio.
The taliban and al qaeda are a step above ohio.
I hate ohio more than the taliban and al qaeda.
I hate ohio more than the taliban and al qaeda.
What are you talking about, I heard that Ohio created them because they truly hate Merica. Evil bastards
My whole family is from Ohio, but my dad and his brothers & sisters (all 12 of them) all moved to Michigan and worked in the auto factories. So, I was born in Trenton and grew up in Carleton as a buckeye fan (yup, it's true). When my dad retired from GM we moved to SE Ohio. I was harassed constantly for being from Michigan. I could not convince them that I was an ohio fan. When your are an adolescent male, any type of teasing is too much. When our football team got together to watch a Michigan vs ohio game, no one would sit near me. When UM won, no one would talk to me. That was it. I left the dark side and never looked back. I know it killed my dad, but believe it or not he completely understood. I don't bust his balls too much, and neither does he. Actually, most of my family and friends are reasonable buckeye fans. Some are insane and they are all delusional, but I can avoid most of the assholes by living in south Florida.
Doesn't surprise me at all. Their hatred towards anything Michigan is so delusional they couldn't even realize that you were one of them...for a little bit.
Let's put it this way, I don't wear my worst state ever shirt all over the world because I think there a swell bunch of guys...
A whole bunch.
were instructed during their potty training years to bid their little turds farewell with "Bye-bye buckeyes" as they flushed.
Parenting 101 my friends.
I hate it enough here to move. AND That 's what were trying to do.
I've got a list of reasons to hate ohio as long as my.... well, it's pretty long
I'm from Ohio, but live in Pennsylvania now, and I must say that PA is far worse of a state.
...I bought a t-shirt that says so...free shipping.
EDIT: When I am driving and someone in front of me has their turn indicator on and has an Ohio license plate frame...I speed up.
How has this thread gone this long without a reference to Monty Python's "The Life of Brian"? The board is slipping tonight. Can't embed the video from my ipadfor some reason but here you go:
"How much do you hate the Romans?
I hate them a lot.
Do you really hate them?
But do you really hate them a lot?
Or something to that affect. It's late. I'm tired. Good night.
I still have a bad taste in my mouth from when we had to root for Ohio to give Michigan a share of the Big Ten championship.
I loved it last weekend when my 5-yr old daughter saw the lax commercials on espn and looked at me and said, "Daddy we have to cheer for that Cornell team because they're playing Ohio State!" I laughed and rejoiced in my proud daddy moment!
That I taught my dog to relieve himself when he hears the word "Buckeye."
I am a born Clevelander who's grown up a Michigan fan my entire life. But it always cracks me up seeing Michiganders talk about how much Ohio is a piece of garbage when the grand city of Detroit lies within their boarders. What else does the state have, Flint? The Michigan Militia? What makes Michigan this city upon a hill compared to Ohio?
I know some Ohioans act the same way, but come on people, just grow up. Both sides. I love U of M athletics, but I also love my hometown of Cleveland as well.
I'd much rather live in Detroit than in Cleaveland...
No one who thinks Michigan only has ugly cities is no one who should be a Michigan fan.
Ever spend anytime in west MI? up north? Michigan is outdoors heaven. ABC voted a spot in MI the most beautiful in the world.
I refuse to shop at Ohio-based businesses when given the choice. For instance, I will not go to Kroger (Ohio company) and always shop at Meijer (Michigan Co).
but as soon as I could walk & talk (2) I convinced my parents to move back north.
I don't hate the people, but I was raised with Bob Ufer's truck drivers quote and traveling throughout the state for the past 48 yrs it's seemed pretty accurate for OSU fans.
Ohio's economy is better, and it has some decent cities, but there is nothing comparable to Michigan's 3000+ miles of Great Lakes coastal geography, and the hundreds of unique towns along it.
Makes Ohio look like the giant hog farm it actually is.
no offense of course.
Never spend a time in that piece of shit state when driving through, and I always save my trash and discard it out the window while saying "Go Blue"
Does anyone else find the story behind the MADE IN USA - NOT IN OHIO footballs to be strange? Nobody seems to know the source and the footballs are made overseas in China.
Is this shenanigans and a failed troll of OHIO?
