How Michigan became the feel-good story of the NCAA tournament
It sounds like the name of a villain from one of those Will Ferrell sports - comedy movies.
Mom watched top gun one too many times.
I'm old enough to say that I saw it first run in the theaters (1985 or 6 iirc) with my wife (then girlfriend).
I did! Gotta problem with that? My father work on the F-14 flight program at Grumman. And my oldest son's name is Maverick! Everyone asks him, "Maverick, where's Goose?" Lol!
My grandparents lived right down the road from the Grumman complex in Bethpage and my childhood best friend's dad was a project manager on the lunar module program at Grumman. Small world.
The F-14 Tomcat -- ANYTIME, BABY...!
Out @ the Calverton complex. I ended up working at the old complex after Lockheed bought Grumman and shutdown all the Long Island facilities for a massive construction company call Island International. They used the old hangers to pre-fabricate things that could be assembled in the field.
My wife was cool enough to along with it... GO BLUE!
Team almost died, survived, won tournament.
Great discussion this morning on 97.1 about if Michigan qualifies as a "Cinderella Story" in this year's tourney. Some were yes (500-1 odds in mid-February), some no (UM is too big a brand for that). My take is that it certainly feels like a Cinderella Story, whether UM qualifies for that or not. Great story...
And watched the whole Illinois BTT game. No school due to power issue. Being he is 10, he liked Morgan and was quiet the first half. Then I told him of Morgan's comment of our beloved Wolverines and what white and blue collar meant. The second half my son had an "Enthusiasm Unknown to Mankind".
Random question, but what is the theme song to the Dak and Dunc show? I asked WD, but heard crickets. Thanks to anyone who may know!
they played the hilary duff classic, sweet sixteen, on the monday show
Ha yes they did play Hilary Duff. I was referring to the rap song they play a clip of for like 10 seconds on the podcasts.
We are the favorite.
Nobody stops this train!
It's weird being the tourney darling, but I could get used to this.
Playing with house money right now. I mean . . . WE WON THE FUCKING B1G TITLE! Totally unexpected. Just enjoying the ride and hoping they pull off a UConn a la 2014 (7 seed winning the title).
Is it a coincidence that Maverick Morgan has the same initials as the last guy who motivated our team to great heights: Mitch McGary? I think not.
I feel good
I knew that I would now
And Michigan being a feel good story must feel so bad to our rivals, it's extra good.
Terry Mills -- T-Mills to these Wolverines -- played in Ann Arbor during Michigan's lone championship season in 1989 and is a close spectator of this current crew from his perch as radio analyst. He watches this team and sees it hitting the sweet spot: "Their confidence is at an all-time high," he says. "But they're calm. They're really calm."
On the show I do, we talked about things like "confidence" and "toughness" and all these things that we didn't feel like we were seeing consistently, and then the rest of the season happened and they found that groove and are poised for a deep run. It really has been fun to watch and hopefully will continue to be fun this evening.
Is something Hollywood couldn't script. JB's leadership and humility, the seniors stepping up, practice jerseys and biscuits, and the plane crash. We have the momentum and have beat every team with whatever they threw out way.
This is a season never to be forgotten.
