How many yds for Denard this Sat?

Submitted by MgerBlerg on

Given the limited playing time (smart for the team, somewhat sucks for the Heisman race), I'm pretty curious to see how many carries Denard gets the next two weeks.  Against UMass, I'm guessing <10 carries, ~100 yards.  It's be smart to test the RBs, as well as give Denard practice throwing longer routes.  Thoughts?

I think he will play the majority of the first half.  I also agree that we will try to get the running backs going.  With that said, I still think he breaks a few long ones.

14 carries, 134 yars, 1 TD.

I think he will put up solid passing numbers as well - 195 yards and 2 TDs.

I would hope to see both RBs and passing game get some attention.  I would say about 125 rushing with a TD and 180 passing with 2 TDs for a total in the low 300s

He will probably go in until one of two things happens: we go up by 14 or we see that their defense is mush just like DSU last year. That probably means less than 200 yards total.

around 100 yards rushing, around 100 yards passing. Will come out of the game when we are up by three touchdowns and it is obvious that our defense is up to the task of keeping UMass down.

Forgot to give a passing prediction - I bet 150... I think RichRod goes very conservative.

But it's good to see the passing game being productive in the first two games.  Maybe we can build credibility with some stud WRs.  It seems like the system can be very good for WRs, even if we're not a pass-focused spread.

I doubt he plays more than 2.5 quarters. I think he'll go 150-200 yards both passing and rushing. He had like 175ish rushing in the first half against ND, and I have to belief he can torch UMass once or twice for long TD's.

I'm hoping he plays the entire first half in which time he will put up 120 on the ground and 125 in the air.  If he's in longer then the half then the game is closer then we need it to be.

I say 200 on the ground and 100 in the air.  They won't be able to stop his running so he won't need to pass much.  Plus we'll be trying to get the RBs action.

If things go well, he'll have right around 200 total yards as we score on our first 3 drives and get him out of the game.

Honestly, nothing would make me happier than to see the RBs and short passing game easily move our offense down the field for scores.

I care zero about his stats at the end of the year. All that matters is Ws.

Please play well boys.

but I think we need to use these games to make Denard a more complete QB. I say we use some seam routes with the TEs and some deep post routes with the WRs (not at the same time) and get him used to throwing those in game situations.

Even if they don't work, we should easily just be able to run a couple times for a new first down. I just don't think putting up 200 yds on the ground accomplishes much....we know he can run.

I think he sees less than a half of PT.  Breaks one big one of 50+ running.  At least one big throw of 50+.  Ends up with approximately 250 yds, 100 rush and 150 passing.

I think the RBs go crazy Saturday.

I say that both Tate and Devin put up more total yards than Denard.

I would find it nice if Denard could get 100 running and 100 passing, but I would say he's around 125-150 total.  Which would be very nice because that means we have the game in hand, which IS a lot more important than him getting 300+ yards again.

Hopefully he only plays about 6 or 7 of the next 12 quarters and we are 5-0!  This would be spectacular!

I just hope to God he doesn't throw a pick or fumble at any point.  I know my Sparty friends are just waiting for him to fail so that they can say, "Denard WHO!?!  WAIT WAIT, WASN'T TATE SUPPOSED TO WIN THE HEISMAN?!"  And then I'll want to punch them in the testicles and maybe will.

I am torn.  Part of me wanted to write "who cares, let's just hope we get 4 quick TDs and rest Denard" but another part wants to write "hopefully 600, so that we can keep all of this Heisman / greatest player in college football / next pat white only with cooler hair / Erin Andrews stuff going for another few weeks.

I am going with the latter.

...I just want more wins.  If we get that I could care less if Denard rushes for negative one hundred yards.

Mark Twain once said...." The truth is stranger than fiction" In the case of Drob, he is completely correct. No one expected him to put up 350+ yards against Uconn. Then no one expected him to go over 300 total yards against touchdown Jesus, 502 yards later he breaks his own record. No matter you guess, he is going to smash that by 100  yards. Pretty soon we are all going to be disappointed by his 500 yard games, and expect him to put a thousand against the bucknuts.

P.S. Is it possible for him to win the Maxwell, O' Brien, Walker, and Heisman Awards ?

I'm surprised a lot of people think he'll pass for more yards than he'll run.  He hasn't done that in either of his starts, and I wouldn't imagine he would against a team we should dominate at the line of scrimmage.

I'm gonna say 120 before getting pulled in the 3rd quarter. BCS Bowl is more important than the Heisman. Throwing yards are a different story- I'm gonna say 180, for 300 total yards.

I would say that we are going to do two things: work Denard's arm, and run the RBs. I don't see Denard carrying the ball if we're up a touchdown, especially if our defense looks solid. I would like him to run more zone read pass plays... nothing new, just more reading defenses.

Barely break 100 yards with one TD on the ground, just to ensure that he keeps his streak of 100 yard rushing games and games with a rushing TD.

140 yards with one TD in the air.

Pulled after TD 3.
