Judging by fast ticket sales for Michigan and slow ticket sales for VT I'd guess 50,000 Michigan fans.
can't wait to make the drive.
...it turns out I will be working a little more than I thought next week and into the first week of January, culminating with a nice presentation on the morning of the 4th, so I cannot go. However, if anyone wants to stop by and you're in SE Michigan, I will send along all the beer I was going to drink. You might want to bring the truck.
If you are serious, I would totally drink a truck of beer for a downtrodden fellow fan. Why not keep it for the home viewing?
....but not so much that I am making presentations to managers the next day in a visibly hungover state...unless we win, of course.
Another reason I'm not a supporter of the BCS is the weeknight games. You could at least move the natinal championship to the friday night that the Cotton Bowl currently occupies.
I see it as more proof that the BCS is all about the money. They would rather have the higher ratings that come from playing the games unopposed on a weeknight than more fans in the stadium. The NCAA always defends any stupid act involving football with "we're doing it for the good of the student-athlete," but how does it help the student or the athlete when the biggest games are played when they are supposed to be in school?
Fuck the BCS.
In the Superdome itself, I would guess about 30-35,000 UM fans and 20-25,000 VT fans with the rest of the seats empty or filled by locals who are not fans of either team, but I'm no expert in these things and am only going by the information in some of the same news stories everyone else has seen, plus the falling ticket prices. Stubhub now has some of the seats selling for as little as $20.00.
The whole McCaughey family will be in attendance, some of you might know this entrenched clan of Michgan faithful.
I am going to Nashville on the 1st because it is about halfway from AA. Then down to NO on the 2nd.
are going. flying down new years day. cant wait. any suggestions for bars?
all of them.
That's quite....helpful and entertaining. And industrious(?).
This is highly accurate.
Here is a better image.
15k VT fans
I doubt there'd only be 25k Michigan fans judging by the fact that we sold our allotment of 17.5K tickets and I'd expect at least the same number to buy on an online ticket site or from scalpers.
Wish I was going but have fun everyone
I am taking my Son. It will be his first Michigan game. This will really put things in perspective when I take him to the Big House for the first time.
My first was watching Tom Brady lead Michigan against Alabama in the Orange Bowl. 35-34 OT win. Pure Awesomeness! The next year I began my first year at Michigan.
Making the drive with me and my buddy.
Ive been to NOLA dozens of times so thats no big deal to me,,Im flying from Atlanta to Biloxi on the 3rd driving to the game then back to Biloxi for some R & R and Casinos...Im guessing those of us who Live in South will be there en masse!!!
Work will not let me off. Damn the man!!
We'll be there in force Wolvie
I'll be there with about 7 others. Can't wait!
I bought five tickets for me and my buds so I can say at least five with some confidence.
Based of the other students I know and from Facebook, there will be a lot of Michigan students there. and assuming most of them are like me and it's their first time in NOLA...we're about to get rowdy.
I have a pocket full of Christmas money waiting to get blown on hand grenades and seafood! Thanks Grandma & Grandpa!
Also: Night game.
I will be there, but then again I only live an hour from the city. Best news is that I was able to score suite tix from my employer.
There was a tom of maize n blue in J'ville so I would think there will be a ton of us in NOLA!!!! We all should have a great time!!! Coming in from ATL... Go Blue!!!
if going to jacksonville last year was any indication, new orleans should be packed with maize and blue. im going with my dad on the 2nd, and whole-heartedly plan to miss my first day of class for the semester.
im just glad this game is at night rather than noon or 1, this way i have more time to nurse my bourbon st induced hangover.
Will be in sec 519
I'm hoping the Sugar Bowl opens the Louisiana recruiting trail for GO BLUE! Maybe pick up one of those dominating Louisiana DT's or RB's!!!!
Working in the baseball industry (SEC territory) I've seen first hand the dominant athletes here in the deep south.
Hoke and Company will continue to put a fence around the north and keep those athletes up there committed to BLUE.
But for us to make an impact with the national title run (consistent) -we need to snag those highly skilled position athlete's in the south.
its going to take several years of utter big ten dominance, and probably a national championship, for us to make serious inroads into louisiana or other southern states. sure, michigan is a nationally recognized brand, but to just about all of these kids, its more desirable to play in the much warmer south in the unarguably best football conference, where academic expectations are minimal at best.
someone correct me if i'm wrong on this, as i may be, but i doubt even tressel made serious inroads into the southern states. i think every once in a while we'll get some elite southern kids, but they'll be ones who actually give a crap about the education they'll be receiving.
i really hope i'm wrong, though. heavily recruiting michigan and ohio is important, but snagging elite southern recruits would make us that much better.
I certainly agree...
These coaches in the SEC have it a little bit easier down here. There are more athletes to choose from and the academics- excluding Vanderbilt - standards are less then the Big Ten for entry. ( nobody seems to look at that).
When I speak to these athletes they feel Big Blue is just another school.
However, when the coaching staff gets these players to visit, it certainly changes the complexity of their mindset.
So key is... Get them to visit!!!!
Hopefully we can snag some talent once in a while.
We've done it with and without "skill position talent" from the south, and we'll do it again with and without. Kids can play football all over the country. Just some teams are allowed to reel in a few more than others.
I bet the number of fan is OVER 9000!
I wouldn't have gotten that if I hadn't seen the freddiew vid on YouTube.
2 for sure. Me and the avatar will be there.....section 614, row10.
I can verify 2 fans in section 121 row 8. My estimate is lots of them.
my wife and I are making the road trip from Ann Arbor to New Orleans. Count the two of us in section 310.
I and a buddy will be there. Driving from Ft.Hood, Tx. Never been to Nawlens' and this will be my first Michigan game. I cant wait. I bought a #1 Michigan jersey just for the occasion.
I'll be driving down with my Dad on the 31st, and we're meeting my uncle and his daughter (my cousin) down there. First Michigan Bowl game, second Michigan road trip
Seven - four tix through television network and three through sugar bowl committee member.
Anyone driving down from Atlanta????? Maybe we can convoy.
been coming from Macon but my crew backed out last minute.
I am leaving Warner Robins the morning of the 3rd...
I actually live in Byron.
I actually graduated from Houston County in 06! Small world, if only I knew there were more Michigan fans I would have been happier. Can't stand the AWFUL Gawja Bulldawg fans...
yeah bulldog and SEC fans are insufferable!
Oh wait, this isn't a Moe's giveaway?
I will be in attendance with three other housemates. First time I will have seen us play in a bowl game; been waiting a lifetime for this experience!
Awesome, man. This will be only my second, and I'm stoked about it. This is the perfect scenario for a good time as well: New Orleans; team we (should) be able to beat. Everything's coming up Milhouse.
All I saw was "thadmattasagoblin." nice.
Will be heading over morining of the game with vinsacco (see above) around the 7-8 am mark. Anyone heading that way on I-10 feel free to hop in for the 3 hr party ride. First game for my brother and I, can't wait!!! Go Blue!!
Edit: My neighbor 4 doors down and his wife, plus one other UM fan from the gym (former ECHL Pensacola Ice Pilot player), so that's 7 from Pensacola that I know will be there.
meeting my buddy in Tallahassee and making the drive from there.
Wow!!! Not many folks going for a few days of partying?!! Rooms in the Quarter are much cheaper than they were when tix first went on sale... I'm staying at least 3 days... Might Hit Biloxi on the way back.
I won't be there because I'm saving money for Bama Michigan.
Me too! I will be at that game! That, and I couldn't get more time off of work :(
I'll be there, with friends. I ordered a U of M ascot; I fear it will not arrive in time, though. I was looking forward to the thought of wearing an ascot, period, and, well, who cares about sartorial dilemmas; it's New Orleans. It's going to be an excellent time, especially if there is a small township's worth of M people down there (35-50k).
Found out today I will be there. Section 119 Row 19. Can't Wait.
The NY Giants, Kentucky Wildcats, and prolly others are "Big Blue."
We are "Blue". As in, "Go Blue!" Note the difference between this and "Go Big Blue!"
Pet peeve. Sorry.
My lady and I are in Pensacola! We'll be there the 3rd as well.
Looks like it shaping up to be a pretty good Pensacola representation.
I will be there with 3 others. One of them is actually a friend who is an Arkansas fan, who I have forced to become a Michigan fan by giving him a ticket to the game.
There will be 57,832 Michigan fans
brother and sister in law, 3 of us alums and 1 (wife) a Purdue grad who is tolerating the game as a temporary detour away from New Orleans eating and drinking.
Yes unfortunate that I live in the heart of hokie nation. An I will be riding down with them but the whole time I will sing hail to the victors. So by the time we get there they will be michigan fans. We are leaving Friday so we will be there for new years. I can't wait go blue!!
"So by the time we get there they will be michigan fans" . . .
Either that or you will be dead.
What's the total up to? Lol.... I may bring a hooker so I can take the carpool lane through Georgia. Larry David reference (sorry I had to)
Just about talked ourselves (my dad, 2 brothers & me) into driving over from Houston. Hopefully get in the 2nd.
My bud from Michigan is taking the train down (30 hours for him one way) and I'm taking the train down out of Connecticut (33 hours one way).
We r driving down 16 hours from northern Ohio. I do have extra tickets and would like to sell them to a Michigan fan when I get to New Orleans. Wolverine fans let
Me know who needs some tickets!
going to my 1st Michigan game ever, I will be 37 tomorrow, I'm from Monroe Michigan, and live in this sorry city. I've got a room for 2 nights and will be partying like a champ. I also plan on being in Dallas in September as well
I was this .. Close to going, even had permission from the wife but alas w/ work this trip is not happening, fuck the BCS and your shitty mid week schedule.
Me and a friend of mine will both be down there for our fist michigan game. Have always dreamed of going to the Big House but this game should be a good start. Sitting in section 613
