How many M FB games have you been to/favorite section to sit in?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Just generating a little friday discussion since it's been a slow couple of days (though in most cases, no news is good news).

I have been to the following-

1995 vs Purdue
1997 vs Notre Dame
1997 vs Ohio
1998 vs Syracuse
1999 vs Ohio
2000 vs State
2002 vs State
Entire 2003-2006 seasons
2007 vs Notre Dame
2007 vs Minnesota
Entire 2009-2010 seasons
2011 vs EMU
2011 vs Purdue
Entire 2012 season
Spring games 2006-2013

My first game was quite something to remember. 5-0 and was probably one of the 5K that stayed through that snow and rain storm. I don't have season tickets yet, but I've been on the waiting list for a couple years. I get my tickets through a vendor at my work. But typically the tickets I get are in Section 20.

Ive been to 5. None better than the UTL game. I was in the 5th row, right on the goal line in the end zone where Roundtree scored the game winning TD. Ive never felt so good about spending a lot of money I didnt have. Lol.

I was a fan through TV, and that was great.  Then I got my season tickets a few years ago.  They are expensive but I would not give them up for anything.  Now thinking about doing some road trips - most college campuses are beautiful, and it seems like a great way to spend a weekend.

Also, as a bonus for any Ann Arborites going to Evanston, there is a bar there that took their entire deli menu from our very own Zingerman's.  When they were opening, the Zingerman's guys let them come and observe them in their kitchen, etc., so they got all the inside info.  I've only been there in the evening, so I can't vouch for the food directly, but it certainly has good credentials.  The place is called Bat 17: http://www.bat17evanston.com/

The favorite was the win over OSU in 2011!  Yes!  We got to the 50 as fast as anyone.  The long dark night was finally over!  It was a BUCKET LIST Thing -- one time to the GAME!  Tjhe Michigan sideline Section 21 is where we have been the last two games.  The only thing that is rough in this area of the stadium is people behind you wanting to sit for the whole game!  Sitting down in the Big House is overrated!

35? I got my season tickets in 2009, and I think before then I was at '98 Eastern, 2002 Wisconsin, 2005 ND, 2007 - App. St, Eastern, Purdue, OSU, 2008 - Utah, Illinois.

My season tickets are in section 6 which is the corner near the opposing teams band which kind of sucks. I sat in the section next to the student section almost behind the goal posts in 2009 for the ND game and that was the best section I've been in.

When I lived in MI for 5 years I went to 15 games. My buddy had season tix so I usually got to go with him. Favorite game had to have been the 05 game against Penn St, the infamous Henne to Manningham TD with 1 second left. Worst...05 against Minny and the beat down at Cowboys stadium last year. Damnit I miss Ann Arbor.

Never been besides last years spring game. I wanted to go to ND two years ago, couldn't get tickets. Last year I wanted to go to MSU last year and tickets were too expensive. Hopefully I can find some for either Ohio ND or even Nebraska

Every home game for the past 6 years, Capital One and Gator bowls, two away at Michigan State (including Little Brother), two away at Ohio, two at Notre Dame, and one at Purdue. I've been in the student section for all home games except three: two of those were in the home end zone on row 60 (GREAT seats for the last FG during 2012 MSU) and 2011 Purdue was Row B on the 50 by the Michigan bench (MMB hookupz, whut).

Unfortunately, now that I moved 800 miles from Ann Arbor, my attendance rate will drop precipitously :(

I was taken to games sporadically when I was little (1-2 times a year going back to 1985), but I was making it to at least three per year in high school (mainly because my dad had a connection at work and we lived seven minutes from the stadium - he also enjoyed those time when we weren't in the house).

I only missed five home games as a student, and I have had season tickets since 2005. The only years I actually didn't go to a game were 2002 and 2003 because I had actually been laid off in late 2001, so I didn't have the extra funds between getting new work, getting married and life happening all at once. Throughout my life, I have to be closing in on 100 games at Michigan Stadium.

Since 2008, I have been to the entire home slate in 2009 and 2011. I missed UMass, Michigan State and Iowa in 2010, and last year, I missed Illinois and Iowa. I missed Toledo and Northwestern in 2008. I was in Ann Arbor during the 2008 Northwestern game, but at a dinner with a portable radio next to me.

I'm envious of all you guys that get to watch them play so much. I've been to 3 games. The first, and best, was The Game in 2011. Truly awesome experience. Then I went to the Sugar Bowl that year, another awesome game. Then I went to the Bama game at the start of last year. Not so awesome. I'll be back in AA this year to catch ND UTL and The Game again. Can't wait!

Gotta do some math:

All home games, ND, MSU, OSU, Bowl Games from '89 - 92 except 1/1/90 Rose Bowl when I was in school in the marching band.  So that's, I think 33.

One or two a year at home, plus two PSU games from '93 - '97 when I lived out East and was in Biz school in Pittsburgh, so let's call that 10 more.

From '98 through '12, all or all but one home games every year, plus Nebraska and the Bowl game last year.  So assuming 7 per year + 2 that's another 107.

Hard to say without spending a lot of time in the wayback machine, but I would guess a cool 150 games.

Good living if you can get it!

As for what section, I absolutely love my current seats.  We're fortunate enough to be in the front row of the West Side Chairbacks.  Section 25.  I think they're the best seats in the Big House.

The first one was the 1961 UM-MSU game. Sat on the 40 yd line on the SW side of the stadium. We lost 28-0. It was a big thrill to be at a game with 103,000 fans. The Wolverines were 6-3 that year under Bump Elliot. My favorite seats are in the Board of Regents Box.

Grew up in AA and went to school at UM.  Still live in town.  Same seats with my dad my whole life in sec 23.  Sat with him even when I was a student.  Still do.  Some of my best memories.  I'm  46 and started going as a toddler.  I've missed a handful, but generally attend every one each season.  So if I started at 2 and averaged 6 a year over that time, that puts me in the 260 range I guess.

OP didn't specify home or away games.  I've been to two Rose Bowls (both were wins!) and maybe 25 road games.  Have not been to a game away from Ann Arbor in 15 years though.  The last one was the 1998 Rose Bowl.  I'm not unhappy with that being my last.

But a couple in 2010, most in 2011 (including UTL), and all in 2012. The only loss I've been to was 2010 Wisconsin, but we went to a hockey win later that day so it was okay. Whole days in A2 are fun.

For 2012 we bought someone's season tickets from them. Sec 38, Row 38 (Northeast corner, near student section). Those were good seats because a lot of the people there actually got into the game.

Growing up in IL kinda prevents you from going regularly, but I've been to a handful of road games as well when they'd come to town.

Games at the Big House:  1995 vs Minnesota, 1997 vs Northwestern; 1999 vs Rice; 2000 through 2003 - every home game as that was when I was a student and had student section tickets. 2009 vs Penn State

Away games:  @ Northwestern in 1996, 1998, 2005, and 2007, and 2013 I’ll be there again.  @ Illinois in 2009.  I’ve also been to Sparty stadium but that was for the Cold War hockey game.

Best games were 2003’s The Game, 2002’s utter annihilation of Sparty 49-3, & 2002’s late field goal win vs Washington.

EDIT: Forgot section.  Usually our seats were in my dad's friend's season tix spot, so when not in the student section I was in section 35, row 40.  Great view of the whole field.

averaging about 1+ games per year, I'd estimate  . . . 52.

I went to pretty much every home game between 96 and 2002 I think, then lots of scattered games from 02-12 and now I'm a student so I'll be at every game from 13-16. Looking forward to it.

First one was Penn State with the Manningham TD, then I saw Rich Rod's first game against Utah. Then I went to the Mealer game against UCONN. I was at the UTL game as well. I can say I never thought I'd see a better game in person than PSU, but UTL topped that somehow.

Season tickets there for 25 years, saw a lot of great football --- direct sight lines to the south endzone, and high enough to see almost everything at the north end (with binocs).

Desmond Howard's 1991 "The Catch" was a little hard to see because it was at the northeast corner of the endzone and these seats, as you know, are toward the southwest corner. I was convinced Grbac had thrown the ball too far. I lost sight of Desmond as ND defenders swarmed around him. I thought "no way could he have caught that." Then people in that corner of the stadium began whooping and hollering, the official raised both his hands in the air, and the rest is history.

I only get up to AA for one or two games a year these days, but when I do I always glance over to s20 and see if I can find my "old row."

My closest guess, though, is somewhere over 100.  First game was in 1960 when Bump Elliott's Wolverines beat his brother Pete Elliott's Fighting Illini, 8-7.  I had a friend with season tickets and went to most of the games with him for about ten years.  I also became  proficient at getting tickets on the street before games.  By the time I moved away in 1998, I had seen a lot of games at the Big House.

My favorite game ever was the Heisman Pose game.  As I watched a sea of scarlet and gray head toward the exits early with slumped shoulders, I remember thinking that the series with Ohio State was in danger of becoming one-sided.

  1. ND v. Michigan (2011) - Under The Lights.  Nuff said.  Sat in the upper section by one of the endzones.
  2. Michigan v. ND (2010) - Longest run in South Bend history + Denard Heisman pose game.  Nuff said.  Sat by one of the endzones.
  3. Michigan v. Alabama (2012) - GA admission ticket so I kinda wandered around until I found a place to sit.  Hot and humid.  Lost: Blake Countess, Denard's Heisman campaign, and the game.

I've been to 7 home games over the past 2 years, my favorite of which being the Sparty game last year on my birthday.  Before then, I have no idea how many games I had been to, but it was normally one home football game every other year since I was old enough to be taken out in public without a stroller.  My family was more Michigan basketball focused than football, at least when it came to actually going to the games.

By my count, I have been to at least one game every year since 1997. Most years I have been to two.

1997 - OSU (win)

1998 - PSU, Wisky (both wins)

1999 - ND, OSU (both wins)

2000 - BG (win)

2001 - Miami (win)

2002 - Washington (win)

2003 - Purdue (win)

2004 - Iowa (win)

2005 - Minnesota (loss)

2006 - MSU (win)

2007 - Oregon (loss)

2008 - Illinois (loss)

2009 - Indiana (win)

2010 - UConn, Iowa (win, loss)

2011 - WMU, ND (both wins)

2012 - Air Force, MSU (both wins)

My first game was the best experience - beating OSU, staying undefeated, going to the Rose Bowl - doesn't get better than that.

So I have been to 21 games, with a 17-4 record while in attendance.

I was lucky enough to have a dad with season tickets as a kid and went to almost every home game growing up, and then had student tickets for 5 years. I actually did the math on this, and the only reason for the range is that I do not know how many home games I went to each season before I was 8. When I turned 8, I went to pretty much every home game until after I graduated from U of M.

My favorite season was 97. I had just graduated from UofM and went to every home game, except for the Minnesota game. I also went up to MSU and witnessed the greatest interception ever. I topped it off with the only bowl game I have ever attended...kind of a good choice for a first bowl game. 97 was also the last season I attended a majority of the home games since I unfortuntatley have lived on the East Coast since then and have only made it back for 1 or 2 games a year.

As for favorite section, the student section was fun back in my day, but section 8 is where my dad has had season tickets for years, so it's my favorite place for nostalgic reasons.

Finally, I have only been to three road venues, plus one Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl was by far the best experience. Beautiful place to watch a game. I also have been to MSU, PSU and ND. ND is a nice stadium, but it's in the middle on nowhere. PSU was okay. The fans were actually nice, but I was there for victories in 93 and 99. Spartan Stadium is a concrete monstrosity.

in the early 1960's .... yikes, and the view of the field has really never changed in all these years (even with the renovation).   I've been to too many to guess ... but in 2011 I did attend every home and away game, which was the first time I had ever done that.

Favorite games:   UTL ... love those long tailgates !   /  1991 "The Catch"  -  I was 10th row right along the back end line .... probably no more than 25 yards away !   /   PSU Manningham   and EVERY SINGLE VICTORY over ohio.

Go Blue!

The first game I remember actual parts of the game, was the 1990 UCLA game. I am pretty sure I attended a few games in '88 and '89 but only really remember the tailgates.

-Ohio '91 - probably 1-3 games per year from '91 to '96

-1997 home slate, possibly minus ND (don't remember)

-almost every home game '98-'00

-1-3 per year or less from '01-'06 (was in school in IL) saw 2 UM/NU @ NU

-easily 75% of home games from '07-'10

-all home games minus UTL (was sick) (did go to Alabama) from 2011 to the present

1998 - Syracuse (sat 19 rows up off the end zone to the right of m sideline)

2002 - Western Michigan (same seats)

2011 - Iowa (student section)

Best Environment has to be the student section, but I will never forget seeing Braylon catch his 2nd and 3rd career touchdowns against Western. I believe he was wearing number 80(?) that year and instantly became my favorite player on the team. I was really happy for him when they gave him the number 1 jersey (being 13 at the time, I didn't truely understand the importance, I did know it was a big deal).

2008    Illinios vs Michigan's Homecoming, only home game I've been to.. right next to the student section though, that was fun.

I've been to horrible games...

Been to every home game since 2004, save for the WMU opener in '11. But hey, that game didn't finish so my streak is alive and well!

Best section/game?

OSU in '11. Sat on the pressbox side on the 50 in row 65ish. Next to a very very old couple that likely didn't appreciate my level of intoxication, but it was all good after the W.

2000 Citrus Bowl vs. Auburn - to young to remember much

2003 Rose Bowl vs. USC- USC at the height of its powers

2004 Iowa, Rose Bowl vs. Texas - First game at the Big House, Braylon and Breaston fall to Vince Young in Pasadena

2005 Northern Illinois, @Iowa, @Northwestern, Ohio State - first Ohio game and a heartbreaker at that

2006 Vanderbilt, @Notre Dame, Rose Bowl vs. USC - Beatdown of ND was one for the ages

2007 Capital One Bowl vs. Florida - Henne and co. take down Tebow, as a Floridian this was one of my favorite days ever

2008 Wisconsin - picked the perfect game in a horrendous season, Thompson led by a SEA of blockers to the end zone!

2009 Indiana - too close for comfort, but a win nonetheless

2010 all home games and Gator Bowl - tough freshman season with a 4-3 home record, highlight was the exciting but depressing 67-65 3OT Illinois game

2011 all home games - Team 132 was one of my favorite Michigan teams and the 8-0 home record, UTL, and win over Ohio made it a special season

2012 all home games - not the most exciting home slate and many frustrating losses away from the Big House, but 6-0 at home

Bowl record: 2-4

Away Record: 3-0

Home record: 23-4 (18-3 as a student)

Overall: 28-8

Best memories: 2004 Rose Bowl, 2006 Notre Dame, 2007 Capital One Bowl, 2008 Wisconsin, 2011 ND/UTL, 2011 Ohio

Caveat:  I'm in my 20's, and getting close to 30.  I was also very, very, very lucky to have a Dad who loved UM football more than most.

We had season's tickets when I was a kid from 1991-1998.  I've been to at least one game every year since then, most years more than one.  During the early years we ALWAYS parked at the Men's Diving team's house across from Schembechler.  They kept a spot open for us.

I have photographs of me with Charles Woodson when he parked at Schembechler (in his 4-Runner), Amani Toomer, Mercury Hayes, Tyrone Wheatley, Derrick Alexander, etc.  I have an old-school looking pennant signed by the entire 1991 Football team, including Desmond, Grbac, Everrett, Derrick Alexander, etc.  Everyone.  If a palyer walked the train tracks back to Schembechler I got my picture taken with him.  Dreisbach with his arm in a sling.  I'd have to look at the photo albums.  There's venges of pictures.

My dad and I thought it'd be a great idea to buy 2006 season tickets.  The ultimate let-down.  I will always think of Henne, Long and Hart as a little bit tainted simply because of all of the relatively untapped talent season after season.

Other Notable games (off the top of my head):

1995 Pigskin Classic against Virginia

2000 Ohio State

2002 Ohio State

2004 Rose Bowl against USC

2007 Rose Bowl against USC

1992 Rose Bowl against Washington

2012 Ohio State Game (at OSU - the first and last time I ever step foot in Ohio Stadium)

2012 Cowboys Classic against Alabama

2006 The Horror  (I'll never forget walking back past the Natatorium, listening to the hand drummer guy playing these macabre death tunes.  It was awful.)

2006 Oregon (Horror II in my mind)

2006 Notre Dame

Sadly I didn't make it to the Under the Lights Notre Dame game.  I've also never been to East Lansing.

By my count it's at least 130 + games.

2008-every home game

2009-every home game

2010-every home game except Illinois, ironically. I try to live life without regret, but man I regret missing that one.

2011-every home game except Purdue, missed it for a bachelor party, but went to the Northwestern game and the Sugar Bowl.

2012-I experienced the pain of not being a student anymore and having to watch every game on TV. But I did go to the Outback Bowl.

As far as my favorite section, it'd have to be where I sat senior year: section 28, row 27, about 5-6 rows behind the band. Low enough to feel close to the field, but high enough to where I could still see everything. That and, well, the band, obviously.

To many to count, but over 200.  Started going when I was a kid in the late 1960's.  I still have ticket stubs from when you could by tickets at the gate for $1.00.  Then they raised the price to $2.00!  (100% increase in one year!)  Of course I had student tickets for 4 years then strated buying season tickets since 1992.

I've seen all of the greatest games but one during that stretch - Braylon fest, Desmond's catch, Brabbs kick, Mecury Hayes' catch, Woodson - OSU, Desmond the Pose, Henne to Mannigham, etc.  (I missed Wangler to Carter!)

Good times.

Favorite part of the stadium - home team side near the 50.
