This is something near and dear to my heart. I understand that you are just asking a question, but if it has been asked twice already in the 48 hours previous to your post, it is not necessary. I understand that you want to break some great news to us about MSU being MSU, but if it has been posted 5 times in the previous 24 hours, there is no need to post it again.
There are three solutions that I see to this.
1) Look directly at MGoBoard. There is a link at the top of every page. This is ordered by the date of the most recent comment in the thread. This is both good and bad. Good, because if it was a hot topic in the last 24 hours, it will probably still be on the front page of the board. Bad, because as soon as it falls off the front page, it might never see the front page again.
2) Look at the sidebar. This works if you visit here often enough that you see everything that is posted. This doesn't work if you only come here once a day.
3) Use an RSS reader. This is probably the best option. Here is an article listing the 5 most preferred RSS readers among the site's readers.

Any feed reader will do, but I personally use Google Reader (no installation, you can access it from anywhere, etc), but I have heard that Feed Demon is really good as well (It recently updated). Once you have chosen an RSS reader, you need to add this URL to the list of feeds in your reader

Then, every time someone posts an article, your feed reader will update your inbox with the entire post and a link to the page. If you want the main page articles, add this URL to your feed reader
If you are worried about your reader updating too much, then have it update every two hours or so. Google Reader updates every hour or so with about 6 threads each time, and I usually spend 30 seconds skimming the posts and marking them as read unless someone needs to be put into place about something.

PS Feed readers usually have search functionality, so there should be no more excuses about the search feature not returning any relevant results.
