then was done. Good look with this one.
How this loss can be turned into a POSITIVE
that your post is the blind optimism of a fanatic.
What's phase 2?
Apparently Dave Brandon is going to hear about it later this week.
i thought GERG was phase 2?
Did you call me?
I'd rather try something else
u must be good @ tax returns.
and if u r, call me
Come to Michigan, our defense sucks and you will get to play early. Not what I envisioned three years ago. I have tried to view this as a positive and it has left my left eye twitching.
You forgot to add a picture of playful kittens to your post!
But is that what we're doing now reaching out to make this a positive? Good luck, hope it actually works but yeah....
You are fired.
That we will have a new DC next year. And about 80/20 that we have a totally new coaching staff next year.
Is that positive enough?
I mean this is stats 101
Let me get this right. Our offense once again failed despite having everyone healthy; the defense performed as we have come to expect despite having six weeks to prepare; and the special teams were terrible. The only positive is that we don't have to watch this garbage again for eight months.
By the way, has anyone noticed how the TCU defense is holding up very nicely against the Wiscy O line despite being outweighed by fifty pounds per man in the trenches. It's a matter of talent and coaching and we don't have either right now.
I have been a supporter for the entire time but I think I've seen enough.
I see you also support hitting the tab key before you start another paragraph.
"... has anyone noticed how the TCU defense is holding up very nicely against the Wiscy O line despite being outweighed by fifty pounds per man in the trenches ..."
Wait ... are you bad-mouthing SMASHMOUTH?
Do they start on their D?
There's no rule stating you have to start freshmen.
.....well I am buzzing like a muthafucka right now, and I love my Michigan Wolverines.
take it down a notch. by the way, what's Iowa City like today?
Just delete this thread, its been a FAIL.
This should have been a post in the Crawford thread.
Second thought it should be, mods delete if need be. I'm just trying to stay positive, and for some reason I hate seeing the amount of pain Rich Rod has to endure on a daily basis. The man is under so much pressure, yet he's still a class act.
Gardner didn't play and possibly lose his medical redshirt, Denard played the whole game, and it was the last game from GERG. That's the most positive I can get right now.
And how long does this cycle of we'll be better next year continue? We wrote off 2008 but no one expected 3-9. Then we said 2009 would be better. 5-7 and a complete failure in the Big Ten resulted. The we said 2010 would be better. 7-6 but the defence regressed badly from last year, and through the year. At some point, you have to cut your losses.
I like RR as a person and as a coach, but some times things just don't work out. I honestly don't care at this point about who coaches next year, and doesn't bode well for RR. That state of ennui is not good for a fanbase and when it exists, you need to make a change.
Will bringing in a new coach mean rebuilding again? Yes, but I don't think RR can do anything to redeem himself with the fanbase no matter how long he stays at this point. Better to cut him loose now and get the rebuild going as soon as possible.
Yes, but I don't think RR can do anything to redeem himself with the fanbase no matter how long he stays at this point.
Winning is all it takes. Fans are willing to let a lot slide if their team is playing well.
First of all despite everything, Rich Rod deserves a fourth year. Because otherwise the suffering will have been for naught.
Are you one of those people that keeps on playing the slot machines for hours, "positive" that the next pull will pay off?
....comparing apples to oranges. Slot machines.....and the implementation of a new football scheme usually takes four years.
One thing is positive. Greg Robinson is gone. And the rest of the defensive staff should be gone as well. Inexcusable with that much time to prep and watch film, and work on fundamentals. Same mistakes, same defense.
I think what is gonna suck the worst is if Rodriguez is fired then Mike Barwis will go as well and those offensive linemen are going to look mighty out of shape because in all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if Jim Harbaugh had a Mike Gittleson prototype as his S&C coach.
Honestly, this post is pure sulky on my part. I don't even know WTF i'm talking about.
Good man. We could do worse.
Because MIKE BARWIS IS THE ONLY STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH THAT CAN LEAD MICHIGAN TO VICTORY. Any other strength and conditioning coach = certain doom.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This board's obsession with an S&C coach is bizarre and creepy. Our team did pretty damn well under the previous, outdated, regime, and has been pretty crappy despite the Barwisizing. It's almost as if, gasp, the strength and conditioning coach is not one of the most important factors in determining a team's success!
+1 to you again for creepy.
We didnt look stronger or faster than MSU today.
While I dont know much about S & C, Alabama looked big and fast today for the 30 minutes I watched.
what is gonna suck the worst is if Rodriguez is fired then Mike Barwis will go as well and those offensive linemen are going to look mighty out of shape
Are we talking about the same offensive linemen that were tossed around like rag dolls today? I really don't care if they eat pizza if they can control the line of scrimmage.
I like Rodriguez a lot, and I will more than likely be a fan of whatever team he ends up at. But he's not right for us. Kinda like the 'it's not you, it's me' breakup line, you know?
This is the only positive I can give right now. What was everyone predicting when Troy Woolfolk got injured during the offseason? I know I was thinkin another 5-7 season.
The lure of immediate playing time has been present since early in the season or even during last season. I imagine recruits probably want to be able to play immediately AND go to a school where you are confident that you will be able to grow and develop and improve your skills. The performance today maybe suggests that the second part of that won't hold true with the current staff.
Or the OSU game? Or the Wisconsin game? Forth year? Right. How we make this better? Two words - Jim Harbaugh.
That -1 was for not knowing how to spell fourth.
He was talking about the possibility of going forth with Rodriguez next year, duh.
What makes you so confident that Harbaugh will be coming here instead of going to the NFL (49ers)?
Go forth and spread the word
Didn't giving players early playing time get us in to this mess?
Don't confuse the symptoms for the disease. It's not like the coaches decided to play freshmen over seasoned veterans. That said, it's partially their fault that there weren't any seasoned veterans left.
There are no positives to draw from this game except no one was seriously injured. This game was an exclamation point on the fact that this offense cannot succeed against a decent defense and that RR's meddling into the defense has cost this team and this program victories.
RR does not deserve a fourth year. Period. His job is to win football games and graduate players. The first part is not happeneing unless we play the MAC and the worst teams in the B1G. Thes econd part is still under consrtuction, but in the end the winning it what he is hired to do and he has failed to that.
Unfortunately for RR the looking back down the road of the last three years is strewn with the wreckage of the Michigan football program. The inability to compete against MSU, OSU, Wisconsin and even middle teir SEC teams, plus the worst defenses in the history of the program and an offense that still has yet to prove it can succeed against good defenses is proof that the experiment failed.
The 3-3-5 is a failure and there is no denying it. RR's insistence on runnning and forcing it on every DC he hires, brings his decision-making into question as well. Rich is a nice guy and a great offensive mind, but in big boy football(not the BigEast) he may in over his head at this stage.
The spread will never work in big time college football...
But saying the offense can't work against decent defenses is one of the most idiotic statements anyone has ever uttered in the history of the universe.
Hardly. This offense has yet to prove it will work consistently against top comptetition in this conference, especially when the game is not already out of reach. I think it's idiotic to not recognize the offense is also part of the problem -- just not as big of one as the lack of defense and/or special teams.
I mean Auburn's offense only put up 17 on Miss St. And I'd say they have a pretty solid offense.
This makes me really sad but I can't realistically argue with any of your points.
Mike Barwis is the Richrod of strength-coaches. All sizzle.
If this wasn't the dumbest post of all time, the reference to Troy "Woolfork" pushed it over the edge.
If there is one positive from today's loss, it is this -- assuming Rodriguez was going to be fired regardless of what happened today, I feel a lot less shitty with it going down like this rather than him being fired after the team pulled out a great victory.
Unless we can get one of the BEST DC's out there, and Dee Hart sticks with us, there's no reason we should keep him. I mean seriously, we have no running back and we haven't had one ALL SEASON.
that I will be in my seat on September 3, 2011 ready to start another year of Michigan football !
No one (save maybe DB) knows who will be coaching ... you cannot be positive of anything else be it coaches or scheme or whatever. I've been loyal to the Maize and Blue since 1962 ... but I have never been through a year like this. 2008 & 2009 were somewhat expected (though we all wanted more) ... but I feel worse today than I ever have before ....
Go Blue !
My girlfriend cheats on me, and steals from me. But she's hot!
Did we have one running back this year have a 100 yard game against anyone good? The play calling looked pretty dismal this year.
It can be turned into a positive because it has caused RR to lose his job. WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a great time to be negative.
Ironically, you earned a pos-bang with that comment.
My guess here is that if RR is gone in the next few days and we bring in JH, next year we will be 7-5 or 8-4 and that will be the building block that he starts from instead of his best achievement in 3 years.
I don't know how you can say this. How do you know that if JH is here that there will be 7 or 8 wins? Who's to say that 20% of the team doesn't transfer, since RichRod brought them here, and there'll be another bunch of freshmen starting and doing all of those things that freshmen do that we've been frustrated about all year? Plus, what about the recruits that end up going elsewhere?
Also, who's to say that even if RichRod is fired, that JH will come here? What happens then? We end up with Brady Hoke and turn into Notre Dame?
You are making the rather naïve assumption that Brandon hasn't contacted Harbaugh (or anyone else) yet. I think we can safely assume, given the amount of time that's gone by, that he's got his next coach lined up.
I'd like to think you're right, but I'm not sure. I also would've thought that Les Miles had been contacted and was all set to take the job when it became public, and we all saw how that played out.
I'm also not sure what the rules (if any) are about contacting a coach or his people when he's under contract at another school. With the Miami job, didn't they try to talk to Bo Pelini, and Nebraska denied permission? Yes, DB could have talked to JH's agent or his brother, or someone else, but who's to say that it was "Yes, I'll come no matter what?" I would actually think that any contact wouldn't have been in the last week. Additionally, the SF 49ers have come out publicly saying that JH is their number one choice - we do not know how that changes things, including JH's mind.
Also, by saying a coach is already lined up means that DB has not only been stringing the fanbase along (end of year, end of season, etc), he's been stringing his coach along, and if that's the case I've lost a lot of respect for him - in my mind that's one of the worst things a boss can do to an employee. That also means that all other UM coaches need to keep that in mind that when they deal with DB.
I'm positive that Tate wasnt the only one on that plane back to AA
I have officially left the pro-RR camp as of today. He had 30 days to get his team ready and we got treated to.....to.......whateverthefuck that was today.
I'm hoping for the JH announcement now. How's that for a positive?
Why on earth would you let today's game sway you that way? They can prepare all they want, but they obviously didn't have the athletes or experience on defense to stop MSU. Have you noticed how badly the Big Ten is doing aganst teams that run anything remotely resembling a spread?
Michigan needs to retain spread principles if they want to turn the Big Ten into a modern conference that wins National Championships and BCS bowls on a regular basis. Why not keep the guy who invented the spread option?
Have you noticed how badly the Big Ten is doing aganst teams that run anything remotely resembling a spread?
It can be easy to miss this point when our team, featuring a spread offense, loses 75% of the games it plays against the Big Ten.
then Bill Martin failed as AD. This program was not in need of a complete overhaul. No one in this fanbase or alumni or the program itself would have selected this change if 3-9 and 5-7 are the first two seasons. With the current defense, there is no guarantee that Michigan would win more than 7-8 games next season. Everybody said just wait until year two, that's when the big jump happens. Then they said wait until year three, now you are saying wait until year four. This isn't the Detroit fucking Lions under Matt Millen.
There is no evidence that thie schemes that this staff have have implemented will be successful here. We can't stop ANYBODY, including a horrible Indiana team or UMASS. We can't score against any tem in the B1G with a winning record or even a middle-teir SEC team.
I ask you again, what criteria, what evidence, what proof do you have that shows that this coach should be allowed to stay another year? NONE. Because there isn't any. He had a chance to show improvem, ent with amonth of practice to show something different, a new wrinkle on offense or the ability to make just one damn tackle. Nothing!
It's time for a change. And yes, I may get what I'm asking for, but I'll take my chances with Harbaugh.
+1 for "This isn't the Detroit fucking Lions under Matt Millen." His commentary on the OU-UCONN game makes my soul bleed.
I'd rather be subjected to listening to a lifetime of Matt Millen commentary than have to sit through one more game called by the tandem of Mike Patrick/Craig James. Brutal!
comes from getting beat 52-14 by Mississippi State
Devin Gardner's redshirt didn't get burned. That's about the most positive thing I can say.
Also, isn't it Woolfolk, not "Woolfork"?
and assumed it might have recipes for tasty and highly intoxicating beverages. Because tonight is a night for heavy drinking, and tastier drinks would be a POSITIVE.
Every loss is better with some bacon.
Next year will definitely be better, with RR or with someone else. The thing is that I just can't see RR keeping his job after today. This morning I thought he should be retained, now I'm pretty sure he should be let go. It is what it is. I think that it's probably best for both the school and the coach to part and start fresh.
The one positive that came from this game is that now there is no doubt this program will be going in a different direction in about a week. Thank goodness. Rich Rod you were a class act, but take no responsibility for any of the losses that have occured in 3 years. Good luck elsewhere
If you were at the game, like I was, there's nothing to be positive about.
The only positive from my whole trip was the Marching Band, that I got my picture with Lloyd Brady yesterday. He's everywhere!
I'd like to post the pic, but I don't have enough MGoPoints to create a new post and the picture would be pretty much buried back here :(, So I'll wait
You made it out of there alive! I wish I could say the same for our football team.
His name is Troy Woolfolk.
UM is going to have to beat WMU about 94-3 for anybody to be happy Labor Day weekend.
I'd like to think our measuring stick isn't MAC competition.
Positive, huh? Well, let's see. I never have to see Obi Ezeh be out of position again. Is that considered positive??
