How likely is it that we see Hoke around Ann Arbor/Campus?

Submitted by Deltroit3030 on

I am curious what you guys think about Brady Hoke and possibly popping up at some games or around town?

It seems most the fanbase, and definitely Harbaugh and other Michigan factions think of Hoke as a great man and friends with most of these guys. You don't normally see a coach who was fired hang out around that team. If Brady isn't coaching this coming season (or the next couple seasons), is it likely he visits occasionally? Do you think it would be a distraction/not in the best interest of the program?

I only say this because he's a likeable guy and clearly LOVES Michigan, always did, and still does. And it wasn't an ugly divorce.. what was needed to be done was done. And Harbaugh wanted to see Brady be handled with respect. So, I was just thinking about this.. what are your inputs on this? Would it be weird? Is it out of the question?

Just because Hoke did and said (and will likely continue to do and say) the right things doesn't mean he'd like to stick around and pretend everything is awesome.  Regardless of how we view his performance, I'm reasonably sure Hoke didn't want to get fired and the competitor inside of him is certain his team was going to "turn the corner" next year.

Isn't there a stipulation in Brady's contract with Michigan that basically says the University won't owe him anything if/when he takes another coaching job?

It could be a bit more complicated than that, but Hoke would probably bring in much less if he were hired as an assistant, or HC of a MAC/C-USA type school.

Next season, when we beat the undefeated, undisputed best team ever, Harbaugh will give the game ball to Hoke. Until then, he'll just hang around Ann Arbor wrestling and playing cards with Mattison. That's what I'd do (minus the wrestling part) if I had just made $11M over 4 years.

Not too concerned about this, but would say it is too soon.  It took quite a few years for Moeller to appear publicly embraced by the program again--and he won games.  I would guess after a lengthy cooling off period to forget the sting of the losses he would be welcomed back.

Through my maize and blue colored glasses, I see Hoke in the winning Michigan locker room after the 2016 national championship game.

Harbaugh will ask Hoke to come to the presentation stand and thank him for laying the foundation that made the championship possible.  Harbaugh and Hoke will hold the 2016 NCS trophy between them, posing for pictures.

Harbaugh will ask, "Who's got it better than us?" and the team will reply "Nooobody".

Harbaugh will then ask Hoke will lead the team in singing "The Victors".

Hoke will go around, and hug and congratulate the players and everyone will live happily ever after.

When you date the hot girl in high school for a few years and she finally breaks up with you because you embarrassed her during the later part of the relationship, you kind of let it go. When she finds the guy of her dreams and you see them walking through the halls holding hands and smiling at each other, you don't hang out outside her house like some stalker. When you see her in the hallway, you simply nod, smile and know you once had a good run with a pretty girl and there are other fish in the sea.

I've watched every Wonder Years episode ever. That much is clear.

Bump Elliot stuck around the program after Bo took over and even helped Bo and his assistants get acclimated. But when he became the AD at Iowa, he rarely ever came around again and generally came to be regarded as a footnote. So while Brady is out of coaching, he may be welcomed back in some capacity. But as soon as he gets another job, he'll be forgotten just like Bump was.

I doubt you'll see much of him. Just because we don't have any hard feelings for Hoke doesn't mean his pride probably didn't take a serious blow after getting fired. This was his dream job, and he failed at it. Badly. He might not want to show his face around town, even if we'd still welcome him with open arms.

If I were him, I'd be spending the next few months spending my big paycheck and severance package touring the world, being with family, and getting myself ready for a potential comeback next year. He can spend this time figuring out what he did right and what he did wrong coaching here, and get himself situated for a fresh start, far away from Ann Arbor.

I have a crazy thought about Hoke.  He doesn't have a job, and I haven't even heard a whisper about him in connection with one.  Everyone agrees his best abilities was talking to kids/parents, helping kids stay on schedule to graduate, and generally being a really good dude.  Would it make any sense at all for Michigan to keep him on as a sort of recruiting director type role in the AD's office?  I don't want him anywhere near the field or coaching, but if we could somehow keep his great recruiting and nice-guy-ness, isn't that like, the best of both worlds?  Or is this just dumb, because you don't keep the last head coach around to get in the way (see Wisconson)?

In theory he should be busy working in Saturdays in a year from now.  Coming back to see Michigan games when he is working at another college will be the least of his worries.

Eating at Zingerman's on a June Sunday morning? That's different.

I would see ex-coach Barry Switzer hanging around the OU campus. He would often visit the Greek House for Lunch in '90 and '91.

I would not be surprised if ex-coach Hoke will be seen around the UM campus and Ann Arbor.

While I agree Coach Hoke came short of expectations with his wins/ losses, what he didn't come up short on were core values like integrity, honor and loyalty.  This is a man who loves Michigan, embraces the tradition and bleeds Maize and Blue.  I believe coach is hurting inside because all he wants is to be a part of Michigan.  This is a man who was an outstanding mentor, a great recruiter, a man of character and an overall keeper of the shield.  I truly believe he was over his head here.  It's ok to make mistakes, its not ok to not forgive.

My question is why wouldn't we want Brady Hoke around eventually?  If Jimmy says he's for us, then why can't he be with us?  Jimmy said he laid the foundation, is that not important?  How do you build without a foundation?  That's what Hoke walked in to and it may have been more involved with his demise than we realize.  Coach could be a valuable asset to our empire.  He would be great as a position coach, recruiter, motivator and teacher of life, football and all things Michigan.  The man was 2011 B1G coach of the year according to the media and the coaches, but now you're saying he forgot everything that earned him that award?  Too many people getting caught up emotionally, time will heal that wound.

I envision a world of unconditional Maize and Blue love for anyone who has been a part of the family ( Yes, even Rich Rod).  If you put in service, if you fought for us, if you bled for us, if you defended the shield....win or lose, we will always love you because you are part of the family.  Go Blue!!!
