how dumb is the "East Lansing is a woman of negotiable affection" t shirt advertised on our home page

Submitted by Blue Blue Blue on

somebody explain to me why our MGoBlog store is promoting the "East Lansing is a woman......affection" t shirt?

this is an obvious ripoff of the Sparty shirt saying "Ann Arbor is a woman....." that works because our campus town, Ann Arbor, sounds like a woman's name.   Why in hell are we acting as if we think a ripoff of one of Sparty's few half-decent gags works?   Who thinks "East Lansing" sounds like a womans name?

why are we acting as if our lame ripoff of their gag is funny?   Why not  promote the shirts that are truly Blue?  like 'strike the pose" or "bow down little brother".

but can we remove the lame "East Lansing is a woman....."

Your tagline: If you're not here to talk Michigan, go to Ohio.

Dude, *this* is "talking Michigan"?

This sort of crap makes me miss the Haloscan era. Thank god it's less than a month to kick off...

I think its hysterical, it points out exactly how stupid the "Ann Arbor is a Whore" is while at the same time showing off our subtle superiority through demonstrating our ability to describe "whore" in other words.

This is exactly why the shirt is lame.

It's too cute by half without actually being clever, and it reads exactly like someone who wants to say "hey look I have a big enough vocabulary to say whore in other words."  This shirt reads 'I was designed by someone who enjoys puns, especially when someone in the room doesn't get them. Tee hee.'

Really a terrible, dorky (and not in a good way) shirt.

Since when are puns standard on MGoBlog?  Brian's very clever and funny as a writer, but I don't recall him busting out puns very often.

Look, I'm a humanities PhD.  I get legitimately excited reading about law reform in British India.  I'm as dorky as they come.  But this shirt is bad dorky.  Dorky without funny.  Evil dorky.

I will go to my grave believing that, good sir!

Its a joke on how dumb and lazy "Ann Arbor is a whore" sounds. Its also poking fun at ourselves with the elevated phrasing as Michigan fans are known as a "wine and cheese" crowd. Its my favorite shirt on the Mgostore.

What did you want it to say? East Lansing is a directional sword fighting event??? It doesn't matter, because Spartans won't get either phrase.

However, "East Lansing durpty durr gurgle shnarf" might enrage them.

The only thing dumb about the shirt is that an East Lansing woman is not negotiable in price.  Seriously, have you ever hooked up with a Spartan?  You always pay $5 for a beer cup at the door, and then you pretty much get to choose whatever woman you want.  That fee is more flat than Claire Danes was in "My So Called Breasts."

You see our T-shirt uses multi-syllabic words to express the same thought as the Spartan version, thus highlighting our superior command of the English language when compared to our Spartan brethren.  It's subtle humor....apparently too subtle for some people to grasp.

Thank god practice starts today.....

I totally agree with your assessment...almost. I nearly threw up in my mouth when you referred to sparty as merely brethren. That would imply that they are equals. They are not. The correct term is "little spartan brethren" or "hermano menor".

Other than that you are a gentleman and a scholar.

A real Wolverine wouldn't bother with a shirt that pokes fun at MSU/East Lansing because they're just not worth.  The best way to deal with a spartan is to ignore them or politely handout worthless platitudes like "yes, of course, it's a fine school" before moving on.  This annoys the hell out of them.

Thanks, Blue Blue Blue, for giving me a good laugh to start the day.  I've always liked  the "East Lansing is... " shirt, but thanks to your comments, I will now appreciate it that much more.
