How does the spring game work?

Submitted by quakk on
Ok, I never paid a whole lot of attention to recruiting or the spring game; until I started reading this board a bit too religiously for my own good. So I got to thinking - how does the spring game work? Is it like 1st team O and D vs. 2nd team O and D? Are the offense and defense comprised of elements of 1st team and 2nd team? Seems you'd want to evaluate them as a unit - maybe 1st team offense vs. 1st team defense, and 2nd team O vs. 2nd team D? Thanks! EDIT: Hooboy... I googled 'spring game' before I asked and got some generic 'It's a scrimmage.' I also went to wikipedia. I'd imagine every school does something different. So it's not that I didn't look. I was looking for an overarching strategy for the game itself - thought I might get something like that from those of you who had been or seen. And I'm not looking for a schedule of events - I'm a bit too far away to attend, and I know I could most easily find that. So, well, thanks!

this is easily googled or searched. people seem to be treating the board like their own Free 411. and rather than let the guy get negbanged, i was seeing if this was something people truly did want to find out (aka it's not common knowledge) or if it should be deleted. WHAT DO YOU HAVE AGAINST DEMOCRACY?

...delete, but the replies are entertaining and since it hasn't turned nasty (yet). Plus, the innocence of some of these guys is just so damn endearing. I just can't see their enthusiasm getting squashed just because they made a rookie mistake.

break into the Athletic Department a la Boris and Natasha until Lloyd Carr and John Beilein catch them. there's also a lot of gunfire but nobody gets hit a la GI Joe. finally there's an inexplicably hot half woman/half cheetah that uses a whip to capture the villains of UM sports.

This is my first Spring game I will be attending and I'm just curious to how everything works. What's the daily schedule look like? I know they are having the locker room tours followed by the alumni flag football game and then the spring game but is there anything following the game itself?

Offense vs Defense in a variety of situations with a weird scoring system made to make the game more competitive. There will also be some kicking and punting work done.

there is no specific set-up. they march out whatever QBs they want at different times, though i don't remember them returning after being taken out. lines change in and out. defenses change out. it's a glorified open practice as currently set up. but it's awesome so we don't care.

I just booked a hotel room and will be heading up to Ann Arbor on Friday. It's a 3 hour drive from the Dayton, OH area for me. I was hoping to make the Friday night locker room tour so I don't have to wake my kids up too early Saturday. Anyone know how crowded it gets for the tours? Long waits?
