well that's just, like, your opinion, man
i break things
Normally I'm just depressed. I got over my angry streak when I was younger. Now it is sadness along with lots of drinking.
... belong to us this week.
I agree... "normally".
But getting screwed still gets me angry.
this one in particular has thrown me in a pretty substantial downward spiral. On my agenda for the rest of the night is a quick viewing of Shindler's List and My Life, followed by a cover to cover reading of the The Road by Cormac McCarthy. If I am going down I am going to go down hard.
Ouch. That really did not need to happen.
If Denard could pass, he'd have hit Treezy on the post route, he wouldn't have 3 balls deflected by linemen, and wouldn't just throw balls up for grabs (toward the end of the game).
I think he should be our QB, but he can't hit a man when he needs to.
Edit: He also wouldn't invite defenses to stack the box because they know he can't throw
If Treezy didn't slow down to signal Denard's throw hits him in stride. I thought Denard cut down on just flinging it up for grabs. Most of his throws were solid on the scoring drives in the 4th. The tips at the line are tough, but Denard is 5'11'' which isn't ideal for a QB. I agree it's an issue, and he should consider pump-faking and running by those guys when he's isolated one-on-one on a rollout.
I thought he hit Hemingway fine at the end there, don't you?
He threw at least 3 deep balls in the last 5 minutes that I remember that had no chance of being caught. The pass to Roundtree was several steps ahead of him, and when you're a receiver who's that wide open you need to get your QB's attention.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic about hitting Hemingway fine at the end (on the No-TD). Junior made a hell of a catch on a pretty inaccurate throw.
Yeah I missed the /s tag for the last bit. It was a remarkable catch, and we're obviously all bitter about the call.
It's hard to say if Borges was trying to throw downfield, or nobody was open so Denard just saw one-on-one coverage and made safe overthrows (WAY overthrown obviously). I'm more annoyed with Borges than Denard.
I do agree that Borges shares some of the blame. Not enough quick throws, especially on the last plays of the game. It couldn't have been more obvious that Iowa wanted to blitz. A quick-out or a slant would be better than a jump ball.
While I agree he is putting too much blame on Denard, you can't blame that overthrow on Roundtee signaling that he's open. I mean, Denard didn't even see him until Tree waved his hand. If Denard could somehow find some touch on his deep-balls (that aren't underthrows on purpose ala ND) he would be so much more dangerous. I honestly can't remember a throw this year where Denard has hit a receiver running a deep-route in stride.
I agree, there's no doubt Denard could have made some more passes, but let's not all jump back on the anti-Denard bandwagon because it just simply makes no sense. Just remember that for every overthrown pass, he had an amazing play to avoid a sack, etc. that somebody such as Kirk Cousins or Vandenberg wouldn't make.
The receivers have made a ton of mistakes and should be credited with a lot of mistakes as well. Along with the receivers, we also have to think about Borges. I am not quite as harsh on him as most people have been, but I do think he needs to work to optimize Denard's abilities. For instance, if Denard was amazing at over-the-top throws, I'd want Borges to do more of those, but that's just not his strength. Work to what will make Denard and the offense most effective, which is short passes from shotgun, designed runs, and spreading out opponents. I think we should work in some of the conventional system, but let's not just throw that stuff out the window until the 4th quarter
I badger the mods to hide my pain.
Get some agression out. Then I'll go to a friends, smoke hookah. Calming effects. Friend's throwing a party tonight. I'll probably go there. Met a girl who look like Emma Stone there last time. It should be legit. Oh and then I'll come back and cry about this game.
What? Lose? We didn't lose.
The PI on the INT was not in the end zone. The INT was, but the PI was at the 5 or so. The TD was not overturned. They failed to overturn the non-TD to give us a TD.
We still had to get a 2pt conversion and win in OT if that was ruled a TD. In all likelihood, we lost that game before those calls. I'm just pissed that they removed all doubt.
we DON'T lose. Corrected.
Too drunk to reply coherently.
seems to be a winning combo tbh
**edit** why my images no work??
I read MGoBlog. Misery loves company.
company. So it still works in this case.
Then I play videogames where I can "avenge" the losses
Okay, not really
is he holding a hose?
I pray for unbridled chaos in the BCS. I want every single game to be an upset. The rest of the world needs to feel my pain.
And then I turn off all the halftime shows so I don't have to watch our low-lights.
hah, I'm glad someone else does the same thing. I also hope for absolute chaos in the BCS. May all the other ranked teams lose.
I do better, however, with alcohol, but usually I just overeat.
I do even better if MSU, OSU, or ND lose.
As a side note MSU struggled against Minnesota today. WTF, did Coach Kill start putting funny stuff in his team's water? They are competitive all of a sudden.
Illinois has two weeks to prep for Michigan. I hope we can beat them or we're looking at another end of the year swoon.
I could go complain to Al Borges or to the Big Ten office. But you know what I'm gonna do instead? Nothing! Because if I take it to small claims court, it will just drain 8 hours out of my life and Delaney probably won't show up and even if I got the judgment he'd just stiff me anyway; so what I am going to do is piss and moan like an impotent jerk, and then bend over and take it up the tailpipe!
That's disturbing. That said, I'lll meet you at the rest stop just before Sturgis on 94 and give it to you up the tailpipe? Kidding!
Excellent Liar, Liar reference. One of Jim Carrey's best.
this was as good a time as ever to make that reference. It's basically how I feel right now.
Just another blown opportunity. We gave this game away. Bad call at the end because that was a TD and the last one was PI... I'm still pissed!!! Season is over now I just hope we don't drop 8 in a row to TSIO
Depends on how they lose. Today, I am a little pissed.
P. I. on the pick. P.I. on the last play. All the drops. The insistence to call routes 30 plus yards when that type of play just isn't in the cards with Denard. The lack of guts to call a TD a TD.
I am pretty frustrated. They should have had that one.
Better than most people in the MGoblogosphere
I turn the TV off and do homework. Because there's more important shit to do than to feel depressed and angry.
However, I tend to F5 MGoBlog a lot when I do homework...
Ten years ago, it took me days to get over a loss. Days.
Now, I basically spew a stream of nonsense potty words for about five minutes, as a sort of cleansing ritual. That usually gets it all out.
On a side note the Big Ten Officials just called pass interference on Nebraska in their game.
Typically I find a nice dark corner and cry. Today though, I will scream into a pillow and keep telling myself that we got screwed. We got screwed.
Varies time to time: previous entries have been anger, sadness, alcohol, working out (last few OSU games), my personal favorite was this year after the Central/Eastern we lost in the final minute I hooked up with a girl that goes to Eastern who was visiting her sister who I know, the way I handle that was good I thought
shotgunbeer beers. duh.
Grab a fifth and Go? Grab a fifth and Go.
If robinson knew how to pass we would be posting in thread about "how we handle winning"
Can't even remember the last time robinson hit one of those deep routes in stride like he should be able to do with tree in the 4th quarter. Hes obviously our best qb but those last 4 plays were terrible, not one roll out? is nobody telling denard its ok for him to scramble and run?
completed a higher percentage of passes and for more YPA last year than Chad Henne ever did here. Maybe he CAN pass and our offense this year is designed to maximize his deficiencies.
I'd think the coaches told him to pass. If he runs and fails, then the game's over. I was annoyed that the coaches opted for the time-out instead of the spike after Roundtree's last catch. It would at least give the option for Denard to run the ball once.
But I am pretty pissed right now. And hungry. Very hungry.
Oh, and I have a fucking toothache that hurts something fierce whenever I consume liquids. YEA.
Tanner is my hero
Well, I hate to admit it, but, like U-M football of old when we were always in the Big 10 championship hunt at least until mid-season, it's time to disengage a little bit now that we're out of it. In a way, it's nice to know that I don't have to spend as much time on MGoBlog. Thanks for that, boys. I'll be checking out until the game next Saturday.
Also after this week I think of Michgan basketball and how next year Blake Griffin is morphing into one Mitch McGary and he is playing for the Maize and Blue. Plus this year football and basketball both still have a lot to play for.
In the end this is only a game but yeah it sucks that we didn't execute as well as we could have nor did the refs.
I guess I cope with run on sentences.
I take my dog for a walk.
A loss is a loss is a loss. Nothing soothes the pain, except maybe a particularly good party.
On the bright side, basketball season's starting...
Usually when I start watching the next round of games, I get over it.
It ruins my weekend. And no lions tomorrow.
Every fan base that loses spends the next couple hours spouting off the steam for a bit. It is normal. It's this thing called human nature. However, when you sober up and read again, you'll see many fans sharing the blame with Borges and too many UM miscues. The refs did not help at all, but they were not to blame entirely.
Kind of like the MSU pass interference against Desmond on the last play. Yeah refs blew the call, but it was on us for putting ourselves in that position where we relied on that play to win.
Here on the other hand, the refs blew three critical calls, not just one, so it is very reasonable for UM fans to be upset right now.
I'm not a player or a coach.
I will. E the pissed off one at the hockey game tonight.
Losing happens. The game was fun to watch, though.
And the D. Great improvement.
we put ourseleves in this horrible position, had a chance to bail ourselves out, and then really never had a chance thanks to a couple shakey at best calls. Winning this one would have felt like grand theft.
nothing to do but drink and wait for Alabama/LSU
I'm 16, so i cracked my wall, then i went for a walk
Hemingway caught a clear touchdown pass that was called incomplete by the refs. Last play was clearly pass interference that wasn't called by the refs. I'm thinking score one for the refs. They still show that they have the power to call games.
So, I'm taking it piss-poorly.
I just want to see the team once again become a good to great team. It will probably take a while but at least our defense is taking some baby steps in the right direction.
Oh well, looks like 7-5 may be our final record (50 %) 8-4 (40 %) 9-3 (8 %) 10-2 (2%)
they're not around today for some reason..
I...uh....really had to go.....uh....do homework....yeah...
I would have jumped off the golden gate by now. At least we are expected to lose 2-3 games
A week of depression. And I just know the Lions aren't going to win tomorrow... /s
Well tonight I'm going to watch the 1 vs 2 matchup and listen to the debate that says the loser of the game should play in the national championship for a rematch. I will then reminisce about the last time a 1 vs. 2 matchup occured and think about how we used to be so good at football. Then i will realize we lost that damn game and I will start drinking.
I talk to my fiancee...seriously. She knows me like a book shes read a million times.
For example, today she immediately said "That should have been a catch and why didnt they call pass interference"?...so instead of me getting to use those excuses, I end up responding "Well, we put ourselves in that position in the first half and this team is still learning. They will get better. On to next game". She smiles, I'm consoled (and partially optimistic) and the day seems easier.
Does she have a sister?
Actually, yes. I'll see what I can do.
Philosophically. The older I get, the faster next season's possibilities come around.
We can still win possibly a couple more this year. And that's not bad for a transitional year.
You gotta look at the big picture. Otherwise you drive yourself crazy.
concur. great class coming in, senior denard, more seasoning for the staff. only problem with next year is the insane schedule... road ND, NU, OSU and Alabama.... ugh.
We've been transitioning the last four years and my fear is that the result is a team that will resemble Carr's teams that topped out at very good. I don't see a national championship until they crack down on oversigning in the south.
Age does have some advantages--a more longterm perspective and more money. Other than that, I can't really think of any positives to getting older. Wait, now I have something else to be depressed about.
i scream at the tv a lot and wonder why i don't have better control over my emotions like some people do.
Borges is as much at fault for the result as is that clusterfuck of officiating. I hope all the Rod haters are happy that we're back to prehistoric football with the one caveat being that our coach at least goes for it on 4th down. What blows my mind is that the blueprint for success is there, but we get a crotchety coach who gets mad about facing bubble screens but has done nothing to improve what was a dynamic offense. Neg me if you want, but I'm not saying Rod shouldn't have been fired, but Borges looks like the Gerg of the offense.
has said all the right things, but two straight I formation runs into an 8 box alignment tells me he is like a old basketball player that would really like to crossover dribble and take his man to the basket but discovers he lost the handle on the dribble, tripped over his own feet and watches his defender go the other way for two.
Borges sucked today...and so did my analogy but it's all I had in my mind, since it happened to me recently.
I just continue to read MGoBlog comments and stuggle through watching the first half of the 330 games until things get interesting in the 2nd half.
Forget about his passing for a minute.... He seems to wait so long on his runs. Are the lanes not there/just slow to develop or is he just more hesitant this year? Or maybe it's that we've been so spoiled over the last season and a half with some unreal rushing stats that we expect amazing every time he touches it.
We are the dorks; simultaneously, we are the jocks. We are everything, and we are nothing that is not everything. This contradiction of being two things that are one thing is really not a contradiction; rather, it is just a thing. To say, however, that "it ain't no thang," would be patently false. Therefore, it is a thing; it is our identity. This is what our identity has become.
I flip my coffee table, pretend to throw away my football jerseys and then mope for the rest of the week. As much as I love Michigan football, I think I'd be a whole lot happier of a person during the fall if I wasn't so emotionally attached...
Tonight I root for LSU, because... fuck you Bill Martin!
Tonight I root for LSU, because... fuck you Bill Martin!
I hate losing more than I enjoy winning.
Get really drunk and take it out on my significant others
I don't watch college football until Michigan plays again. That includes Sportscenter highlights or College Football Live. That part of the world is dead to me.
Today I read the Jerry Sandusky Grand Jury indictment and now I feel sick.
I learned how to handle defeat from my wife. She's a Cubs fan.
by remembering people like your wife. Or students at schools in Indiana. Somebody always has it worse. Suckers. So then I make fun of them to make myself feel better.
My initial reaction is to drink some beer. Then, to calm myself down, I drink some more beer. After that process is complete, I like to console myself with more beer.
Shoot pumpkins after the game then have a red neck bon fire (tv's, tires, printers, ect.) in the evening.
It's as relieving as yoga.
Damn, that sounds awesome. Can I join you?
But, this party might be the last one at my apartment complex.
I disagree. Al Borges is AWESOME. If it wasn't for Hoke, I'd say we should have just kept Rich Rod.
I usually am depressed for a few minutes, and then I remember that it's just sports, and go on with my life.
Losing sucks. I drink some beer and my let 10 month old twin boys remind me there's a lot more important shit going on. Go Blue!!!
I tell my kids to stop swearing.
Every swear word in the book. Over and over and over.
on the internet.
step 1: drink
step 2: donkey punch my gf
step 3: repeat steps 1 & 2 until i pass out of either exhaustion or alcoholism.
I face the problem head on. Read message boards, tweets, listen to interviews, and watch highlights to rationalize the loss. The drinking comes later.
drinking starts immediately. Even if you still do those other things.
whether we win or lose, this is normally my routine, just when we lose my frustration usually leads to a blackout
I think of my friend, a big Michigan fan, who is in a very late stage of cancer and I'm glad to have seen UM play a tough opponent on the road, not give up, and fight to the end. And I know I have an excellent chance of seeing that UM team four more times this year; and a pretty goo chance of seeing next year's improving team. My friend doesn't have too many more chances.
My kids'soccer game...and remind myself what is most important...beating tsio.oh, and my kids..
my 3 year old kept yelling "Go Denard Robinson! Go Blue! Go Denard Robinson! Go Blue!"
Totally sucks to lose. I hate how that game ended and when in mixed company, I'll say we were at fault for not playing better. But we got dicked IMO. I mean, whatever, it's all good. I'm not gonna whine about it. I felt like the fucking father of the year because I waited until her mama put her in the tub (5 pm) before I started drinking as opposed to after the 3rd quarter.
But, I totally agree with you. The outcome of the game is important, but not nearly as much as the kiddos. And I got to hear my girl get emotionally involved in a game for the first time. Awesome. She rinsed her heart of bad feelings in 4 seconds by pushing 2 of my nieces in circles on a chair. Kind of makes you think . . .
I take a knife to a can of natural light, cut an egg sized whole, pop the tab, and let the cold beer slide down my throat. Repeat as necessary.
and raise your four more. We were out coached. This goes back to my MSU loss reply. We did not throw enough curl routes. We did not run enough ISO plays. They doubled out inside DL and our DEs got minimal pressure. Robbed on a few ref calls. PI, TD and some interior holding.
Is the elixir of the despondently outraged Wolverine fan. The long term result is unfortunately alcoholism and general pissoffedness at the universe in general and then specifically at any asshole who went to OSU, MSU or ND.
But one wonders about Denard who just seems to not make good decisions.
that my seven year old was not around, because I went apeshit around the house when Vince Smith picked up the ball and ran downfield with it, and I'm sure she would have been terrified. Fortunately, I had nothing left in the tank for the last two minutes, except the conviction that even if they scored two points would be no gimme.
They made the game interesting in the end, but between bad calls by the refs, uninspired play-calling, and lots of drops and goof-ups, the better team lost.
bag of dog poop on Jim Delaney's front porch should do the trick.
Second...find out what it was that the Iowa DB said to the ref to make him pick up his flag and never throw another the rest of the game. If we can find out what that was, we should be golden in our last three games.
I went to get my oil changed, then played catch with my son for an hour. I'm all better now. And my girlfriend still isn't really talking to me because she knows I'm pissed. Honestly though, we haven't won in Kinnick for a while and its always a tough game. I was fully expecting to lose this one so I avoided my usual beer a quarter consumption and I'm glad I did.
Alcohol.... plenty of it.
When we play flat (TODAY) I suck it up and act like a man and tell it like it is. They didn't play with passion and played down to the competittion. SUCKS BUT TRUE.
When we drop a game and deserve to win, well hell then its you SOB's you should've won and played with more passion.
Just watching the 3:30 slate of games and then the big one later tonight
I can't talk myself out of it. it just needs to wear off, like a bad tatoo.
So I watch all the highlights and read all the blogs so many times that it seems like old historical news by 6:30. This blog and commiserating with you all helps a lot.
Before the intenet and 24 hour CFB coverage it would take me all week to get over it. Now, I'll be merely numb by tomorrow.
I usually win a bunch of games in NCAA '12. That usually helps a lot. Especially when you beat the team we lost to.
Copious quantities of beverage don't seem to work as I continue to punish myself by watching more college football on the tube. Then I see Northwestern moving toward a huge upset of Nebraska and it's time for the Xanax.
Shit did we shoot ourselves in the dicks today. The division may have been achievable had we won, but it sure is a long shot now.
When does the coaching staff teach receivers how to catch a fucking football?
I'm soooooo drunk
I don't. I'm not going to check mgoblog, ESPN, or any other sports site until after our loss in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl. We've all seen how this ends before: why bother torturing ourselves? At this stage, I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that we might not beat Ohio State or Michigan State again in my lifetime, and definitely not in the next 3 years.
I treat the wife like shit...makes me feel better. just yell at her and stuff
My wife just told me to tell you to fuck off.
Took a nap directly after the game today which helped. I immediately go into the it's not what happens to you but how you handle what happens to you philosophy and look forward to how the team responds next week. I definitely do not blame anyone....blame never helps me.
The nap helps revive me for a lot more bourbon and there will be a lot more commencing now.
Luckily at college I have so many things involving music to do during the week, I never have time to think about it. Next thing I know we will be playing Illinois.
I realize it's just a football game, remind myself that I am fortunate to have good health and a good job, and continue on with my life...
I can't handle it. I need professional help
Today I went to a pumpkin smashing event, and joined in the kids, utilizing as my weapons an earth turning trident, a baseball bat and my favorite, a heavy pick ax - all the time being told "geez, I'm keeping away from you! You look hella pissed off!"
I eat lots of donuts cry a lot and listen to the cure in the bathroom.
I turn off the game before the very end. My husband continues to watch in the other room. If we win, he yells in and lets me know, then I can watch it when they replay the last play. If we lose, I wasn't watching, so it's sort of like it never happened. I move on more quickly this way.
i threw my fist in the air and screemed, MOM MAKE ME SOME MEATLOAF!!!!
I work nights, I stayed up today to watch that mess and I was too pissed off to go back asleep and I'm on 45min. rest.
I scan a few UM boards, hope like hell the hockey team calms me a bit and wish the next game was tomorrow.
I turned 40 this year so that means I'm a man now and I still feel like crap for a few days after a loss and I have little to no interest in football the rest of the week. I may or may not even look at my fantasy team will Wed or so.
If Michigan won today I would be on no sleep and not feel it one bit till the morning when I crash. I'd be happy all night.
The years have gone by and losses don't ruin the weekend like they did last year even...
I owe it to Coach Hoke...he seems to be a stand up guy!
I go to sleep, I just woke up... This was a bummer...
SAD PANDA! I drunk myself numb tonight! I guess I will shake out of it through the week. My wish of Hoke finishing his first season like Bo has been dashed and we will not win the B1G or go to a BCS game. We'll probably go to the Alamo Bowl and play Texas Tech! Boo Hoo!
If Hoke can beat OSU, it will make my year and then we should have a parade in A^2 for Hoke!
I agree...ending every practice the chant is "Beat OHIO"...That is still the ultimate mission this year. We are Bowl eligible but the "game" is still the most important...we are not stock piling confeiti though.
