How bad for the Michigan program would it be if RR went to Miami?

Submitted by A_Maize_Zing on

Just a quick reaction to Adam Rittenberg's article where he brings up RR as a possible canidate for the Miami job.

First what a great place for RR.  They have a talented team filled with luxuries like Seniors and Juniors.  He would be in a recruiting hot bed that he already recruits well.

Oh and the scary part is how many players would go with him?  How many of the Florida kids would like to return home? This team still seems loyal to Rich Rod and heaven forbid Denard may want to stay in a RR spread offense.  Seems like a natural fit.

The good news is by waiting DB forces RR to miss that opportunity...unless he sees the writing on the wall and resigns.

God I hope RR is back next year.

It's at the language-equivalent of the triple point. Eventually it will settle at 'asshat' because that's the inevitable result of word inventions like this, but right now all three are correct. I suspect 'ass-hat' is most widely acceptable right now, though.

*****THIS IS AN IMPORTANT POST TO READ BECAUSE IT'S 'THE' TRUTH*****

#1) Michigan is NOT Jim Harbaugh's 'dream job.'  He wants an NFL job, because him and his brother are so competitive.  SD, SF, Oak and Car (and maybe even Dal and Min) are all going to be fighting over him this off-season.

#2) Dave Brandon is going to be doing absolutely everything he can to convince him to come to Michigan over the next month.

#3) In all likelihood, Rich Rod will be brought back (signing a two year extension after the bowl game), and Greg Robinson will be replaced (along with the 3-3-5).  Ron English is supposedly an early DC candidate.

How bad would it be for the Michigan program if a gaping chasm swallowed everything south of Packard and Satan emerged for a 1000 year reign of darkness?

I'm thinking we could probably still snake-oil a few members of the dark army for the secondary.  Might be penalty-prone, though.

I dread that scenario as well because I think he would be wildly successful there. But I don't agree with slow playing RR so he gets screwed out of another job. I think that's an awful reason to wait to fire someone that would bring a terrible PR along with it. And I don't think that is what Brandon is doing at all.

Conceivably, he could squander another year on Rodriguez while watching two appealing candidates, Jim Harbaugh and Brady Hoke, accept new jobs elsewhere. A preemptive move is a consideration.

But will one more year matter when Brandon looks at a 10-year plan for the program?

Fundamentally, Michigan has been about patience. The trait is one of the hallmarks that makes Michigan unique, that makes it a destination school for coaches.

Every Wolverines football coach has gotten at least five years to prove himself since Elton Wieman only received two in 1927 and ’28.

As someone well-versed in and enamored with the athletic traditions of the school, Brandon knows that stability is part of the Michigan brand.

Rodriguez’s record has improved by two games per season every year. Risks aside, he deserves the same treatment others in Michigan’s coaching lineage have received.

The point has been brought up elsewhere on the board, but it behooves M to maintain its brand as a coaching destination by giving a coach time to put his players in place.

You would think people would finally get the point about threads like this, it is starting to speak poorly of the MGoCommunity. I also remember reading something that Brian once said about having regrets of allowing us to post crap like this because it starts to look like MLive. I am starting to agree with him.

It's too painful to think of what a person in his position must be thinking right now.  I sorta wish he would do the same thing to negative RR speculation threads that he did to the bad female Sparty word and Auburn threads.  That way, the agony of reading the threads could be balanced by the humor of seeing a few posters reading something like "-999,732" in mgopoints.

Even if the steps weren't quite that drastic, I wouldn't mind seeing some very aggressive moderation on the "how many different ways can we find to indirectly say 'RR is outta here' today" posts.

Yeah I think the Mods are overwhelmed right now, but it puts a dangerous precedent on not being able to talk about a coach/coaching situation without getting neg bombed 1,000,000 points. This is one of those times where I don't think you can use this practice, but we as users should start to realize what topics are starting to get on peoples nerves and stop.

All of these threads concern Michigan football and are directly on point with respect to the rules of the blog.  It is up to us in the MGoCommunity to police these things and the only weapon we weild is the down-vote.  I am prepared to lose all of my MGoPoints in order to make this stop.  Who's with me?

I think it would be great for RR to go to Miami. After all the bullshit he has had to put up with here in Ann Arbor and reading all the crap on MGoBlog he will really need the vacation before he comes back to work.

You were asking how bad it would be if he went to Miami weren't you? I assumed you meant for vacation. I think it's a lot better than Ft. Lauderdale.

You want to link to that? A quick check didn't mention anything about that, and I have no idea where they would have found the money to pay him or his buyout. Just because someone posted a thread on this board doesn't make it so.

Miami does everything on the cheap, has a fickle, disinterested fanbase, and Rodriguez would walk into another shitshow trying to implement a run-first spread down there.

These threads are getting beyond ridiculous.

Edit: I'll link to CBS pointing to Gruden and Dan Mullen as the two top choices.  http://college-football.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/26158541

No offense to RR, but I don't think he's the most desirable candidate right now.

Though in all fairness, if RR were to hypothetically coach in the ACC, I think he'd do very well.  I can see him excelling at a school like Clemson.

Haha.  Nice analogy, but the Chizik scenario is completely distinguishable.  Chizik was a former DC at Auburn, coaching during Auburn's undefeated season in 2004, and thus was pretty revered by the fanbase (though I don't think there were many pleased with his hiring in 2009).  Chizik is also from the south, growing up in Florida, and played in the SEC (at UF).  Rich Rod has absolutely no ties whatsoever to Miami.

More importantly, there are many who think that Chizik was hired, and his subsequent role has evolved into such, to be a puppet for AU's boosters such as McGregor.

You're right, just pointing out that RRod record at Michigan is much better than Chizik and there is a claim out there that if fired that RRod would be hired somewhere a couple days later.

They say ( I listen to interviews on Rivals Radio, o.k. I know ) that among the people that count that RRod is in the top 10 or so best coaches in the nation.

All I can do is listen (or not ) to these people and take it or leave it .

+1 sir

How is RR's record at Michigan better than Chizik's at Auburn? Not trolling, I'm honestly confused; Chizik is headed to the national championship and RR has yet to finish above .500 in the conference.

His WVU resume is much more impressive, but I don't see anything more impressive than Auburn's 2010 season in RR's tenure so far at U-M, do you?

Chizik record when he was hired at Auburn was 5-19, The thought around is that RRod might have a tough time finding work if he is let go .

I was pointing out that RRod record at Michigan is much better than Chizik was before coming to Auburn.

Yes I know that Chizik was part of the past element of Auburn.

It's bad enough having to wade through all of the RR-Harbaugh-DB threads, now we're adding RR to Miami?  Really?

The Insight Bowl can't come soon enough...
