Well, my bracket is done. 6-6 right now, with Texas losing and Tennesse tied. There's a chance I'll end the day at .500. How are you doing. Is there anyone that is doing better than .750?
exit the Washington Generals
Mine couldn't be much worse. I'm 5-7 and I have lost 5 Sweet-16 teams already.
There's quite a few on the mgoblog group with 11/12 with all of them missing the RAWRCATZRAWR (Ohio for the uninitiated).
I'm only at 8/12, but Georgetown and Marquette are both out of my Sweet 16.
Ditto on the Hoyas and Marquette. That's what an ACC fan gets for putting any faith in the Big East. Oh: and UTEP. Lovely.
I picked the RAWRCATZ, but I called it last night and no one listed: http://www.justcoverblog.com/2010/03/17/quick-fix-your-bracket/
I read it last night and almost changed to Ohio, but most of that info is against the spread, which isn't how brackets work. At least that was my reasoning of keeping them out of my bracket.
This is true. I got my spread info from jamie mac himself, but the "haven't lost in March" is all truth, no spread.
Lost 2 elite 8 spots in Gtown and Florida (why the hell did I pick Florida, they suck).
Other than that, I've gotten everything right except Vandy, who I have losing next round anyway to Butler.
We'll see how the rest of the night goes. I have Wake, SDSU and New Mexico picked. Kansas is a given.
I am also annoyed with the level of interest at my work. When I asked my coworkers if they filled out a bracket, I got, "For what?". Come on.
I got similar responses at work. Just amazes me
who the hell doesn't know about march madness/brackets? your colleagues aware of anything relevant? we've got indoor plumbing, internets, dwarf horses, etc.
Hey, the MORE annoying thing is that one person on my team went to Michigan and is a fairweather type of fan. My MSU team member knows more about Michigan football than my Michigan team member. It makes me want to puke.
But yeah, I work in market research. People who are "Michigan fans" try to talk to me about football occasionally. It just makes me want to punch myself in the face repeatedly because most of the time they don't know what they're talking about. They'll talk about the state of the team and how "Rich Rodriguez needs to go", and then I'll say things like "hey, at least Brandon Graham was awesome", and they'll look at me like "hey, I know who Tate Forcier is". Assholes. Don't talk to me if you don't what the hell you're talking about. I am ranting. And I also want a defensive line filled with 4 BG's.
from the can't judge a book by its cover dept.: colleagues are surprising I've found. the random guy at work who seems like he's never tuned into a sporting event is a sparty and knows as much about michigan athletics as the media guide. I was blown away by the depth/knowledge of the guy. he's also a reasonable fella to talk sparty smack with.
fortunately I work with 90+ michigan graduates so it's a favorable environment to find water cooler banter.
Defense company, full of engineers... I understand a lot of them don't follow sports but come on.. March Madness, seriously?
Where do you work, People magazine?
9/12. Missed on St. Mary's, Georgetown, and Marquette.
We could be bracket friends.
Had Marquette winning 1 game, Georgetown to the Sweet 16
Georgetown and Marquette hurt me bad...7 out of 12 as of right now...
10/12 and leading in the bracket pool so far. Missed on G-town and St Mary's. Didn't know much about the teams this year so I created some statistical modeling to help with the picks. So far, so good.
I'm shocked to be 10-2. Of course, there was the potential for upsets, which led me to shoot some "three pointers" because of the expected value, but a lot of games that could have gone either way have come out in my favor.
After a year of dong punches, I s'pose it's just mean reversion.
had richmond in the sweet 16 in one bracket. pfffffft
7/12 ... whoever is "Bitch Get off my Pillow" Kudos on the name, and the picks. That made me laugh quite a bit.
In Vandy... DAMN IT!!!!!
You deserved that one.
I've got Murray St in the Sweet 16, so I was a little nervous watching the end of that game. Truthfully though, I just root for upsets, because that's just much more fun. Tough break for Robert Morris today, I wanted them pull it off even though I have Nova in the Sweet 16.
I had Georgetown in the championship game.
losing to Nova. I hate safe picks.
Well, I had them winning it.
better get drunk and abusive.
Has anyone else looked at the top brackets on yahoo and noticed that all of the people with perfect brackets are girls? I'm not necessarily saying that they all got lucky and guessed. But... well maybe i'm just pissed that i'm 8 of 12 and have 2 teams in my elite eight already out.
I had my ex-gf fill out a bracket once. She decided to pick teams based on how much she liked the name of the school. She surprisingly did pretty well.
A woman coworker once filled out one of those football parlay tickets and hit 10/10 only by liking the name or the mascots of the teams. She only played for $1 but still won $100.
Actually, some of my other picks have been golden. Picked Vandy to lose. Picked NIU. Didn't care too much about Ohio or Robert Morris.
11 of 12, didnt have georgetown going too far. Need texas, new mexico, kansas, and tennessee. I have georgia tech over georgetown in the sweet 16 so I wouldnt be heartbroken if tennessee lost.
Weakly for Tenn as I had Georgetown over Tenn in the next round.
I'm at 10-2. Misssed Ohio over GTwon & Butler over UTEP (I'm in an underdog pool.)
Very pleased that I picked Murry State (!)...not so pleased I picked Georgetown to the elite 8.
also lost on notre dame, marquette (great game), richmond
My 4 year old is in the top ten of 82 entries and "picked" her bracket by me reading the team nicknames and she chose which one she liked better. (I filled in all 1-4 seeds in the first round for her... the rest were hers). She was all about Wildcats and Kentucky, Villanova, and Kansas St are in her final 4. She has the Buckeys in the final four also.... (already defying me).
Kentucky beating K-St. She'll probably win.
I am in 54th place.
6 out of 13 right now. Pretty poor, but I have all of my next round still in tact, which is what I look at this early. I have Butler and Tennessee in the Elite 8, so if Tennessee can hang on, today's upsets should create a much easier path for those two, and I will surpass my buddies picks in later rounds.
What's the deal with Kenpom being such a poor prediction tool?
I agree. I'm glad I didn't go solely on that. If you notice, though, he has the Big East as his fourth best conference when many considered it the best...which is pretty much playing itself out, what with them being 1-3 so far.
Hard as it is to remember, keep in mind that the only number that really matters is possible points. I'm in 207th place, but my possible points is only 8 behind first, so that isn't insurmountable. With so much weight on the champion, these games don't mean much unless you start losing teams that you have advancing pretty deep (or if you picked Kansas to win, like most of the world)
12/16. Not too bad. The only bad loss for me was Vandy, who I had winning the second round game against Butler.
Somehow managed to not get one game wrong, first time ever. Winnerrrrrr!
How is campus life?
7 friggin points. By far the worst first day I have ever had. I lost every buzzer beater/last second shot. Such a shitty day. Two sweet 16 teams out and I had Hoyas in the elite 8. Bummer dude.
I am 7 and 9. Haven't lost any elite 8 teams, yet. Can't do much worse today.
Of course, my dog, who makes her picks based on whose mascot would win in a fight, is 11 and 5.
My 6 year old daughter is 9-7 and she picked the Ohio-Gtown game right, she doesn't even watch the sport
I'm not the most objective person in the world and it has really hurt me. I mean, this year I have Michigan going all the way so my bracket is already destroyed.
it's safe to say I suck at the brackets. First day and I'm 8-8 and already out of the office pool and there is no chance of making a rebound after today considering I had Georgetown going to the elite 8 and UTEP, Marquette and N.D. in the Sweet 16.
