Rivals is reporting that Jon Horford committed to Michigan today. Nice pick up.
to post this! Awesome, nice to get a little bit of height coming in! Trey we're looking at you next.
That's good to see, hopefully he has an Al esque growth spurt. Glad to have him though.
Welcome aboard! Horford seems like a kid with a lot of room for growth and improvement, he may have only scratched his potential.
Roy Tarpley was a relative unknown until his senior year of HS, by the time he was a senior in college he was one of the best in the nation. Not sure if Horford's ceiling is that high, but he has great potential and bloodlines.
With him, Smotrycz, McLimans, and Morgan (and hopefully williams), this team will not be hurting for size nearly as much as everyone thought. Now the question is can they play early and often as someone young will have to step into the center position.
I'll assume Smotrycz does not redshirt... so at least to me Horford would right?
think horford redshirts... with 4 bigs there is now more options like having a center and a true power forward out on the floor...
It may be a possibility, since he's pretty slender right now. Apparently he's just started to hit the weights.
said in his hello post... odds are horford is going to get spot mins here and there... but if he hits the weights all summer long it won't be hard for him to put on 10-15 lbs before the season starts... i just hope he doesn't get treated like deshawn did in his freshman year, and only plays in a handful of games...
You don't him to stunt his growth by hitting the weights early do you?
Hey, I fully agree that it's healthiest to wait until after you've finished puberty to hit the weights hard. I'm just noting that right now he's a little slight for the position.
solid pick up! this class is shaping up very nicely, particularly when you consider our recent success (or lack thereof). belein must be a helluva recruiter.
congrats to Jon and the Wolverines. Never underestimate good blood lines and the desire to live up to the standard his brother has set. Not to say Jon will have a career like Al had, but with his pedigree I'm confident he'll do whatever's necessary to succeed.
"Yeah. Never underestimate good blood lines."
All Baldwins not Alec
last i checked half of those people have very successful careers. apparently being nominated for an oscar or 198 film/tv credits is "riding your brother's coattails."
Yes and Billy Carter had a beer named after him...ok so that one may apply.
"We elected the wrong Carter."
Accolades aside they are all lesser (other than Duane) than their sibling. Argue..... Now!!!
Are you kidding me? He was the more talented Allman Bro by far, dude! Listen to those old Aretha albums from Muscle Shoals!!! Unless you're referring to the dying part. . .
Guess this is why you need some of us old guys posting here.
I was about to post the same thing. A few years ago Rolling Stone named him the #2 guitarist of all time. Behind Hendrix.
I agree, Duane is by far the more talented Allman. One of the best guitarists ever. There are some others on the list that have had decent careers, but Duane was the one that caught my eye. You must be right, dying really makes you a failure.
Screw you, Clint Howard is one of this countries great character actors :)
Think of the possible family section: Al Horford, Tim Hardaway, Joe Dumars. Not bad
Does Dan Pelekoudas have a son?
Practice Facility, Crisler upgrades...should be done in no time.
because these parents have money and their kids are getting a free ride. Maybe a donation equal to tuition (and a tax break for the parents) is in order!
Also Mark Bartelstein, sports agent and parent of walk-on Josh . . . er, is that a good thing?
He better not be in Manny's ear...
to donate to the practice facility etc.
not in the same level, but Bartelstein too
Is there a college basketball team that has more bloodline recruits within the last year? Hardaway, Dumars, Horford....somebody call Jeff Jordan for the transfer.
Nice work by Beilein to reel him in, and hopefully the success carries over to TZ's recruitment...
plays defense and scores mostly in the paint, exactly what this team needs.
Here is a video from UMHOOPS about a possible teammate of Horford, Isaiah Sykes.
Sykes got some Jalen in his game, also gets Belien a recruit out of the PSL.
Casey Affleck is a fine actor.
Just need Sykes and Zeigler in 2010 and Amir Williams in 2011 and we're ready to make some noise.
I doubt we have room for Sykes and Ziegler.
Sykes is the backup if we don't get Ziegler. Either or, not both.
on what Harris does
same thing, a Plan B type, but Sam Webb mentioned it looks as though a Ziegler commit wouldn't necessarily mean Sykes is SOL. Webb mentioned they way they're looking at Sykes, it doesn't seem like a back up plan even if Manny stays. Dunno. I like that Michigan may have some options, though.
I hope Metrics and Hardaway come in as advertised as far as 3-pt. shooting goes (and that Vogrich develops physically and defensively ... and that Stu and Novak find some confidence), because neither Sykes or Ziegler look like they would make Michigan fans forget Glen Rice.
I'm not opposed to going after Sykes, even if Ziegler committs. Staff seems to really like him, and having a couple of wings who can slash, get to the rim and finish (or get in the lane and dish) appeals to me.
Actually we will have room for both and williams for next season if cronin career is over...and if cronin's career is not over we still have room for both but will not have a scholarship for williams or plumlee next season something the coaches will have to think hard about. I think a lot will ride on Trey Z's decision along with what will officially be decided for cronin
To Coach B and the staff!
Lets see what happens next!
As it would appear that Manny is gone...
Nice pick up!
