Horford and 12 other UM Athletes tabbed NSCA Athletes of the Year
http://www.mgoblue.com/genrel/050713aaa.html Title says most of it. Thirteen UM athletes were named to the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-American Player of the Year status. Among them was Jon Horford.
Strength coach Jon Sanderson on Jon Horford ... "Jon Horford has a relentless drive to be the best in the weight room and on the court. He has made tremendous gains in his time at Michigan improving in every area that we test. His vertical jump has improved by four inches and his back squat has improved by 135 lbs., among others. He is a high-character kid and a joy to coach."
Awesome to see all the athletes working hard.
Good for him. Boyd Epley would be pleased. I love seeing weight room warriors.
prolonged minutes at center with McGary at forward, despite doubts by Brian and many at UMhoops. People talk about having the best players on the floor, but I think he will prove to be one of them.
I would really love to see Horford EARN major minutes at the 5. If he can develope his scoring skills to go along with his shot blocking abilities, what a front court that would give us. How sweet to have two 6'10" guys on the floor together that can hurt the other team at both ends of the floor.
His dad was a "late bloomer," and his brother improved considrably from freshman to junior. Maybe his injuries will turn out to be a blessing, and we will get a fully intact, redshirt junior and senior Jon Horford. Horford could play a traditional 5 if he had an injury-free year.
back in the gym the NIGHT they returned from losing the NC game. . .
If Michigan athletes took home 13 of the 229 available awards, then that's about 5%, if I am not mistaken. It's a tribute to the S&C programs as well as the staff who run them and the athletes who use them. Excellent work all around, and congratulations to these athletes.
Despite all the injuries he sufferred, he has shown consistent progress when he is on the court, provide quality minutes offensively and defensively.
