Hoops Recruiting: 2015 5 Star Jaylen Brown Likely to Use Final Official Visit On Michigan

Submitted by Wolverheel on

According to This Scout Article ($$$), the number 2 recruit in the class of 2015, Jaylen Brown, is likely to take his final official visit to Michigan. This is a very happy surprise as the first sign of interest in him was October 22, when Lavall Jordan watched a workout of his after HIS family contacted Beilein and explained their ties to the Michigan area. This would be a huge get, and provide the spark needed to possibly become a recruiting power. (I thought we might need some good recruiting news with the football situation going on). Here is his Official Mixtape.

Edit: His ties to Michigan are that his family is from Muskegon, and his uncle who is apparently very close to him went to Michigan, but his mom went to MSU. Here's the rest of the quote:

"Basically half of my family went to Michigan and the other half went to Michigan State. People in my family started to make calls and they finally got in touch with a manager or something, and I can’t remember exactly the whole story, but they got in touch with the coaches who then contacted my mom, and contacted me.”

Seems like someone dropped the ball on this one. #2 player in the country whos family is from Muskegon, half of which are Michigan fans...and we didn't contact him till very likely several years after other schools did and only because he contacted us

it's doubtful that Michigan didn't know who he was. There may have been contact and he showed no interest at that point. The continued success may have made the Brown's take another look at Michigan.

It's also possible Michigan wanted to see more from him in some aspect.

Whatever the reason, it's nice to see him checking us out and the continued interest of top recruits doesn't hurt.

That's huge how it was them reaching out to us. Being from Georgia, as a top recruit, he's probably not staying in-state. It sounds like having relatives nearby might be a big factor for Brown and his family if he's going to be far from home.

i understand football recruiting deadlines, sorta. can someone clue me in on how basketball works?

also, fun news. i like seeing belein turn unknowns into nba players, but i could adjust to elite talent walking in the door.

That was the most entertaining recruit hype video I've ever seen.  He looked like he was playing street ball!  And the music was awesome!!!

We didn't get to see much other than his sick handles and powerful athleticism.  I haven't looked at his recruiting profile so I'm not sure how good of a shooter he is but he looks like he's GRIII's size so even if he isn't that good of a shooter right now he'll be fine.  Especially with moves like that!  ALL THE BEHIND THE BACK DRIBBLES!

This kid is jaw dropping.  Like Hardaway Jr. with GRIII's jumping.  Unreal.

It could be a very special 1-2 years when he's in Ann Arbor.  Especially if Duncan Robinson's got that Stauskas 3pt shot to keep defenses honest.

I watched slightly more than one minute of his tape, and that was all I needed to see.

My dear lord, I hope Beilein can reel this kid in. He would be a bona fide difference maker from Day 1 onward, and with a year, maybe two under Beilein's tutelage....wow.

Crystal balls are about 1/3rd UK and 1/3rd UCLA so the undecided factor is good to see rather than 80% to UK or whatever.  John Beilein deserves some serious top end recruits - Izzo was rolling out 4 HS McDonald's All Americans last year.  Kentucky was rolling out.. well 5 stars off the bench who didnt play all year until that f****** game against UM.

Looking at the trends he was 100% Georgia TECH crystal balled all last spring so it sounds like he has a brain on him and is not all about basketball.  In theory that shoud help us out to some degree.

Per UMHoops a few days ago.

Brown’s recruitment is already at a very advanced stage. He’s taken official visits to Kansas and Kentucky and is also planning to visit UCLA and Georgia on officials. His fifth remaining visit has yet to be determined and, according to this report, North Carolina and Georgia Tech are the primary schools trying to earn the final visit.

Where will Jaylen Brown take his fifth official visit? “We haven’t decided on the fifth visit yet,” his mother said. “We’re just going to leave that open for now, and see how things go.”

Jaylen recently told reporters that he is considering an official visit to North Carolina after coach Roy Williams flew to Atlanta a couple of weeks ago to observe his workouts. Georgia Tech, which was the first school to offer Brown, may also be a contender for that fifth visit.

Is it fair to say that Brown will decide between North Carolina and Georgia Tech for that fifth visit? “That could possibly be it,” his mother said.

The news of a Michigan visit was described by Scout analyst Evan Daniels as “beyond random” and is surprising given how far along Brown is in the recruiting process.

Jaylen Brown would be right there as the #1 pick in the 2015 draft if he could declare. He is one and done and would be the best recruit UM has had in decades. Think Paul George.

This kid looks like someone who can flat out take over and dominate basketball games.  Beyond the amazing skill and athleticism, he seems to play with a high level of intensity and have a remarkable feel for the game for a junior in high school.  I would love to watch this kid play for the maize and blue, even if it's just for a season.

This would be a big find for Beilein if he could get him in a maize and blue uniform. Caris and Walton could be gone after this year so who would fill those shoes? Spike but that isnt enough!

with Tar Heels facing serious issues/penalties for lack of insitutional control and academic accredidation surrounding nearly 20 years of faux no-show classes to which athletes were steered to by the athletics department.

I would have to think that if it comes down to GT, UNC, and Michigan for his final official visit he would choose Michigan. If he's from Georgia, GT is a short drive away in addition to that fact that he has probably already seen the school. UNC might have some serious pentalties coming down the pipe. If I was a top recruit, I'd be seriously worried about going to UNC with the stuff going on there.

Michigan just makes the most sense no matter how you try to see it.
