In-Home visit tidbits

Submitted by jerseyblue on

Didn't see any of this in the last Recruiting Roundup so :

-Not an In-Home but Harbaugh just visited IMG to check in on '17  targets 4* Cesar Ruiz and 4* Jordan Anthony as well as '18 targets 5* Taron Vincent and 4* Brian Hightower.

-On Monday night coach Zordich had an in-home with Calabasa(Calif) 5-star CB Darnay Holmes. The writer seems optimistic despite popular thought being that Holmes will stay in California.

-This is interesting. On Tuesday Coach Fisch had an in-home with 4* WR and West Virginia commit Mike Harley Jr. There are 4 WR spots in the class and Hawkins has one locked down so the assumption was that DPJ, Nico Collins and Tarik Black had the other 3 with Oliver Martin on hold and in the alternate slot in case something odd happens. With Harley now back in the mix it makes me think the coaches aren't as optimistic on someone as the once thought.

-Harbaugh/Drevno had an in-home yesterday with 5* OT and Alabama commit Alex Leatherwood. God I want this to happen.

-3* DT Rutger Reitmaier and 4*DT Aubrey Solomon are also expected to get in-homes this week as well.

Crootin.  I am very excited about the Harbaugh administration and what he brings to the table.  The season was exceptional and we have a chance for the playoffs, which would make this season truly magical.

Its great, to be, a Michigan Wolverine!

Pulling Reitmaier, Solomon, and Tufele would almost completely assuage my DL depth fears for next fall. Solomon and Tufele are great talents, and so is Reitmaier. He's going to get big ratings boost when folks see him against AA bowl competition. His film looks a lot like Hurst with how fast he's a yard behind the line of scrimmage and running people down.

Did he say "strictly on offense?" He certainly said that OL will be his position, but I didn't understand that to preclude him playing some DL. It makes sense to me to add him in some "heavy" packages for, e.g., goal line stands. His future may be as an OL but he could make a strong contribution to the team with some limited play on D.

Given the position (Harley is 100% a slot guy), it's more likely a replacement option for Hawkins or Martin, as those are the two guys we'd be more likely to play in the slot. Nico and Black are both outside receivers, although Black recently named Bama his leader. Maybe we are okay with taking one more slot and one less X type.

I've been consistently saying he should play safety rather than receiver given the depth at the two positions, but someone on here said we were still recruiting him at WR, I honestly can't remember who it was. I'm sure he'll get looks on both sides and the staff will place him where he's most effective. I could see him on special teams early as a gunner, as well.

Well that could be another consideration here: if the staff now definitely sees Hawkins as a safety, but they still want a 4 receiver class, then they could look to add Harley. This could also be a result of the staff wanting a 3rd safety and not feeling confident on any other than the 2 that are committed.

I want Leatherwood. I know, I know, Najee Harris is the truth, and I am super excited about O'Maury Samuels, McCaffery, Solomon, and all the WRs,   but Leatherwood has a legitmate shot of being our opening day starter at tackle.

I think Wilson and Filiaga are both Day 1 starter candidates as well, but I agree that Leatherwood is a little more refined at the moment.

I also think landing Najee would cost us Samuels. That's fine because Harris is an incredible prospect, but unfortunate with Samuels - I think he can be a real play maker somewhere.

Black just moved UP his committment date, we thought b/c of Oliver Martin perhaps taking his spot.  I think maybe Collins is looking elsewhere then?  Or the Black date change is b/c he's trying to book a spot somewhere else under some pressure.

This may have been explained before, but if somebody would explain it again I would appreciate it.

How are we able to get to 32 recruits without grayshirts?  I thought 28 was the absolute limit.

We are in on so many dudes still.
