In-Home visit tidbits
Didn't see any of this in the last Recruiting Roundup so :
-Not an In-Home but Harbaugh just visited IMG to check in on '17 targets 4* Cesar Ruiz and 4* Jordan Anthony as well as '18 targets 5* Taron Vincent and 4* Brian Hightower.
-On Monday night coach Zordich had an in-home with Calabasa(Calif) 5-star CB Darnay Holmes. The writer seems optimistic despite popular thought being that Holmes will stay in California.
-This is interesting. On Tuesday Coach Fisch had an in-home with 4* WR and West Virginia commit Mike Harley Jr. There are 4 WR spots in the class and Hawkins has one locked down so the assumption was that DPJ, Nico Collins and Tarik Black had the other 3 with Oliver Martin on hold and in the alternate slot in case something odd happens. With Harley now back in the mix it makes me think the coaches aren't as optimistic on someone as the once thought.
-Harbaugh/Drevno had an in-home yesterday with 5* OT and Alabama commit Alex Leatherwood. God I want this to happen.
-3* DT Rutger Reitmaier and 4*DT Aubrey Solomon are also expected to get in-homes this week as well.

Crootin. I am very excited about the Harbaugh administration and what he brings to the table. The season was exceptional and we have a chance for the playoffs, which would make this season truly magical.
Its great, to be, a Michigan Wolverine!
December 2nd, 2016 at 10:28 AM ^
But yes - it IS great to be a Meechigan Wolverine
And yes - Jimmy & what he brings to the table are indeed exciting
and yes - you get an upvote!
Meyer and his band of crooks better watch out in next year's Game, and I'm sure they're having nightmares already about '18 & '19 and beyond.

Allen Trieu is still confident DPJ picks Michigan.

No info I've got from him in the last year indicates anything else. He's good friends with Mike Weber, but he loves Michigan and has had his heart set on Michigan for a whileZ

Pulling Reitmaier, Solomon, and Tufele would almost completely assuage my DL depth fears for next fall. Solomon and Tufele are great talents, and so is Reitmaier. He's going to get big ratings boost when folks see him against AA bowl competition. His film looks a lot like Hurst with how fast he's a yard behind the line of scrimmage and running people down.

Mone and Hurst should be solid next year as starters, but our depth behind them is.... Michael Dwumfor and a bunch of freshmen. I am guessing that Gary has to play quite a bit inside, which obviously would hel, but still. And if Hurst leaves....
December 1st, 2016 at 9:43 AM ^
Our starting 4 will be great: Gary Hurst Mone and Winovich. We will definitely a great off-season of Mattison development and at least one of those DT freshman to be really good right off the bat.

That is assuming that Hurst comes back. I think he probably will, but that's just like, my opinion, man.
December 1st, 2016 at 10:04 AM ^
Are you sure you didnt hear that from a Counterstrike source?
December 1st, 2016 at 10:18 AM ^
It was Wormley's opinion as well, and Mo said he's leaning that way. Would be surprised at this point if he left, unless we get into the playoff and he goes on enough of a rampage to make himself a 1st rounder.

I would gladly trade another year of Hurst for getting in the playoffs and him going on a rampage and becoming a first round pick!
December 1st, 2016 at 11:37 AM ^
Me too, man, me too.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:10 PM ^
Yeah, that seems to be the consensus on Mo. I'll take either another year or a monster playoff run that propels him into the 1st round of this draft.
December 1st, 2016 at 4:50 PM ^
Yeah, but they both said that much earlier in the season. Hurst really improved his stock over the last 4 games. Again, I still think he likely stays. Who the hell knows. I'm still hoping Peppers has a bout of extreme loyalty and sticks around another year.
December 1st, 2016 at 10:07 AM ^
I think Onwenu gets in the rotation and beyond that we see a lot of freshmen playing, much like 2013 when we first started to see a lot of Wormley, Glasgow, Charlton, and Henry.
December 1st, 2016 at 10:18 AM ^
Harbaugh says Onwenu will be strictly on offense next year.
December 1st, 2016 at 10:37 AM ^
Did he say "strictly on offense?" He certainly said that OL will be his position, but I didn't understand that to preclude him playing some DL. It makes sense to me to add him in some "heavy" packages for, e.g., goal line stands. His future may be as an OL but he could make a strong contribution to the team with some limited play on D.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
Nope, he's on OL all the way. And likely starting at the RG spot opposite Bredeson too.
December 1st, 2016 at 10:19 AM ^
Harbaugh has been pretty definitive Onwenu will be playing offense going forward

I think even some of his comments indicated that Harbaugh thinks Onwenu is a future NFL player if he sticks to oline.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:34 AM ^
I'm guessing either Collins or Black are not looking as solid for M.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:37 AM ^
Has to be Nico, right?
If it were Black we would just push harder for Martin...
December 1st, 2016 at 9:41 AM ^
Given the position (Harley is 100% a slot guy), it's more likely a replacement option for Hawkins or Martin, as those are the two guys we'd be more likely to play in the slot. Nico and Black are both outside receivers, although Black recently named Bama his leader. Maybe we are okay with taking one more slot and one less X type.

Why is everyone so sure Hawkins is a receiver this time around? Most of the talk last year seemed to project him as a safety.
December 1st, 2016 at 10:44 AM ^
I've been consistently saying he should play safety rather than receiver given the depth at the two positions, but someone on here said we were still recruiting him at WR, I honestly can't remember who it was. I'm sure he'll get looks on both sides and the staff will place him where he's most effective. I could see him on special teams early as a gunner, as well.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:40 AM ^
Well that could be another consideration here: if the staff now definitely sees Hawkins as a safety, but they still want a 4 receiver class, then they could look to add Harley. This could also be a result of the staff wanting a 3rd safety and not feeling confident on any other than the 2 that are committed.
December 1st, 2016 at 3:04 PM ^
I thought I had heard or read (maybe from Sam) that Hawkins is viewed as a receiver and the UM staff wanted him to focus on WR this year (which he has done). If true, that's a pretty good indication.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:36 AM ^
I want Leatherwood. I know, I know, Najee Harris is the truth, and I am super excited about O'Maury Samuels, McCaffery, Solomon, and all the WRs, but Leatherwood has a legitmate shot of being our opening day starter at tackle.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:53 AM ^
I think Wilson and Filiaga are both Day 1 starter candidates as well, but I agree that Leatherwood is a little more refined at the moment.
I also think landing Najee would cost us Samuels. That's fine because Harris is an incredible prospect, but unfortunate with Samuels - I think he can be a real play maker somewhere.

Wilson has loads of talent but is definitely a project. I don't see him being a day 1 starter. Needs at least a RS year.

I agree that he needs a couple years development before he hits his monster potential, it's just that we might not have a better option if Newsome isn't ready to go.

On Dec 9 - 11. lot's of 5 stars on campus.

On campus knowing that we are in the playoff. Go Buffs! Go Hokies!

Black just moved UP his committment date, we thought b/c of Oliver Martin perhaps taking his spot. I think maybe Collins is looking elsewhere then? Or the Black date change is b/c he's trying to book a spot somewhere else under some pressure.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:56 AM ^
Or maybe dpj is going to osu also.
December 1st, 2016 at 10:17 AM ^
He isn't. He will be at Michigan. Everything about his life goals that is common knowledge screams Michigan. He wants to follow in his father's footsteps from career standpoint and that alone should be enough to avert any OSU talk.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:14 PM ^
I'm sorry, but no. The kid wants to be an orthopedic surgeon, OSU isn't gonna prepare him for that career. They don't go to play school down there.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:39 AM ^
I don't think they are going to get all of their top WR targets. Harley is a good option.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:46 AM ^
I agree, always good to talk to more people especially at a position of need. Plus you have to cover your bases in case something doesn't work out quite the way you want it to.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:55 AM ^
Harley is a burner, would be fun to see him on the team. I want Collins, Black way more, but it's nice to have multiple options. I think Hawkins is still pretty solid, if we want him.

So, when can we start tweeting to recruits again?
December 1st, 2016 at 10:00 AM ^
Right around the 17th of Never. First thing in the morning.

Marking my calendar now...

This may have been explained before, but if somebody would explain it again I would appreciate it.
How are we able to get to 32 recruits without grayshirts? I thought 28 was the absolute limit.
We are in on so many dudes still.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:57 AM ^
I believe it's by counting early enrollees in the previous class
