As it should be
In other offseason news, Denard is pretty fast.
heard he is a really good guy too.
I saw Venus traverse his smile yesterday....
Water is wet
You must be new here.
Glad to see that Brady has his priorities in the right place. Even if a little brother manages to beat his sibling a few times, the older brother still inherits the family farm and the little guy is forced to become a monk or work for handouts. Ohio is more like the guy down the street who uses banned bug repellants on his fields, which initially pay dividends, but eventually hurt the entire community. That guy needs to get his ass whipped for the betterment of everyone.
So I'm guessing family farms were popular in your day?
Relatively, yes. Are you making a poor attempt to jest at my age? Har-har, yes I am old, get your laughs. Throw some more sticks and stones at the man sitting on his porch kindly dolling out his opinions and see what happens to you, bub. You think you're so clever...
You can't be that old if you are posting here!!!
My son-in-law showed me a few weeks ago and got me set up with the account. Old dogs can learn new tricks! It gives me a chance to read a lot more about Michigan football than I really should, but I still don't understand a lot of what goes on around here. I really like the recruiting information though, it is a part of the "process" I had never really seen before.
studying gerontology and volunteering for Meals on Wheels this summer, likes to say "Growing old is a privilege denied to many." You da man, Herm. It's fun to have you here.
that you sign your name on the end like a letter..old school, haha.
The 60 yr old above would beg to differ.
Herm.. Doth thou agree oh sage of a time gone by?
I get the impression that you would pretty much own this blog if you were to type the following: Get off my lawn!
Until the dust bowl...
It's pretty simple, the game is just more important. Even if we lose #5 against MSU, if we beat OSU in Urbans first year that's all anyone will talk about (save MSU fans). If we beat MSU but lost to OSU after all of the hype, we would never hear the end of it, and beating little brother isn't exactly something to hang your hat on. Obviously it would be best to beat them both, especially this year, but OSU is almost always more important.
MSU is more important to your BIG Championship dreams. OSU is more important to your ego.
When CMU rattles off a couple of victories it's not like MSU drops everything and spends their offseason on the chips.
It's funny because CMU actually did beat MSU a couple years in a row.
Maybe it's just because I am an out-of-stater and am never in contact with MSU grads, but I never really think about them that much.
Also, let it be known that these are just the teams I would want to beat the most if there were no BigTen Championship implications.
MSU should be second because they're they're a rival and in our division
Well, Nebraska is also in our division, and ND is also a rival. And it's hard to put any non-OSU game ahead of Alabama this year. Beating them would be huge.
No question a win over Alabama would be amazing, but on the list of "Which win would you derive the most satisfaction from," MSU is pretty high up there. A win over Bama may be more valuable long term, especially as we choke out MSU's recruiting, but nothing would give me more pleasure than watching Dantonio, Tom, and the gang lose in the most painful fashion possible this year. Sorry...I have relatives...they're terrible.
State is only 5th on your list?? Waaaaay too low a priority. 2nd at the lowest. Beating them this year is a must
ahead of Nebraska, for sure.
I would flip flop MSU & Nebraska.... but yeah pretty much.
We better out-snap them at least.
Our new snapper can play catch with their new snapper - of course they would have to face away from each other.
Just because beating OSU is THE most important thing doesn't mean beating MSU isn't of great importance as well. Yes, I know, not exactly a ground-breaking statement.
I'm sixty years old. By averages, I probably have about twenty years left. I have been following Michigan football since 1960, when I went to my first game. Just once, in my entire life, before I die, I would like to see Michigan win an undisputed National Championship in football.
Is one National Championship in a projected eighty year lifespan too much to ask from the Leaders and Best?
I just go ahead and count 97 as a national title and clear the whole nebraska thing out of my mind. It was a great ride and the split title does not take away from it in my opinion. I can't see an undisputed title really toping it. Equal it, sure. Of course 97 was my senior year so that alters my perspective.
The only thing left that really matters to me on my sports bucket list would be a Browns title. Though I am 38 and should have 40 years left I don't really see that happening.
A decade later, half that '97 team was still playing in the NFL.
So yeah, you can consider it an undisputed National Champion with a pretty clear conscious. I do.
How this doesn't get brought up every time I'll never know, but how can people forget the Flea Kicker? Nebraska survived on a lucky fluke, whereas the '97 Michigan team completely dominated everyone they played
his top priority is signing long snappers
/s but not really
Just so arm-chair coaches can meltdown on the Internet and he can sit back and read it while opening a big can of don'tgiveafuckwhattheythink.
Technically, as phork said above, to win the BTC, it's probably more important to beat State. In the scenario that we're tied, the head to head breaks the tie breaker. So yeah. The State game is more important than ever. More important than Ohio? Well.
which team or in what order. I want to beat MSU just because of the way they played last year, trying to take Denards head off at the bottom of a pile. Since OSU has had their run on us prior to last year their fans have become very annoying, why should this year be any different than any other year you ask? well that would be a good question and my answer would be I have no idea so without any further BSing. My order goes OSU, Alabama, MSU, Wisky, if needed, ND, Iowa and the rest for a national title
This reminds me a lot of people who laughed at MSU when Dantonio said he couldn't root for UM to win, even if it meant giving MSU a share of the Big Ten title a couple years ago. I agree with the above posters that beating MSU is far more important because they are in our division. If OSU is going to be that good, they'll win their division and if we beat MSU then we'll see OSU in the title game regardless of our outcome with them in November. I think you have to see things long term here and while OSU is about pride, beating MSU makes more sense every single season.
You haven't seriously gone back to pretending to being a Michigan fan, have you?
Give it a rest already.
What I would derive the most pleasure from in terms of winning:
A win over Ohio is a win over Ohio, any way you slice it. There's no feeling like it. Seeing Denard take a knee last year was a feeling of personal euphoria.
I refuse to ever place a win over MSU as more important, at least from a personal satisfaction standpoint. MSU is and always will be lower on the totem pole. However, I would love to shut Mark Dantonio up. There are few people on this planet that piss me off more than him.
A win over Alabama would no doubt be amazing, and its more important for long-term success, but beating them wouldn't give me the same satisfaction as Ohio or MSU. Winning this game would give me the most confidence about the direction in which the team is heading, but it wouldn't make me the most happy.
I don't care how nationally irrelevant Notre Dame becomes, I will always enjoy beating them, especially in the gut-wrenching fashion we have for the last 3 years. But we've beaten them 5 times in the last 6 years. I expect less and less from them every year, so my personal satisfaction in winning goes down as a result.
Beating Nebraska is great since they are a divisional rival, but I have no personal qualms with them. One of my best friends is a diehard Nebraska fan, and he voluntarily sat through his team's beatdown in the student section with me last year. I can't get too mad at them, and everything I've heard about the fanbase indicates that they are extremely high-class. I will always have the utmost respect for Nebraska.
I get a little more pleasure from ND though, due to their fans.
MSU fans say that it doesn't matter to them who our biggest rival is yet they are always fretting over being second rate to Ohio.
P.S. you already told us that ur an MSU fan like 5 times.
those on the board who live outside of Michigan rarely encounter spartinas and can dismiss them as one would a mosquito. those of us who are local are subject to the idiotic ravings of alum, casual fans, and certain media types-we tend to place a victory over little brother higher on our list of priorities.
HERM, your killing me.....What the hell r you smoking??
I seriously hope it wasn't me and you haven't been the one marking everything I do as "trolling". I have posted legitimate, helpful things here over the last week and I've been getting harrassed by SOMEONE for absolutely no reason.
And I also hope it wasn't me because I have never said anything like that. I actually just came off this past week of hearing that and challenging anyone to prove it and no one has. I want people to get off my case. So to say something like "you've said it like 5 times" is completely, absolutely false. I never have, not one single time, because I'm not. Just because you go off and say something like that doesn't mean it's true.
*posted before it could get knocked down as "trolling". =|
