Hoke's Passion: cried when Green told him he was going Blue
Strong men also cry. Strong men also cry.
Up vote for Lebowski reference
Thank you, Coach Hoke, for bringing Michigan back.
Is a bummer...man
"60 percent of the time.....it works every time."
Hoke's passion for this sport and Michigan is what sets him apart. He almost cried at his initial press conference when he was talking about UM. I still think David Molk's description of Coach Hoke sums the man up to a tee.
"The goal, the expectation of this program is the Big Ten Championship"
Do you guys who are criticizing Hoke for crying ever look at the world except through your intellectual goggles?

I'm just being honest. I love Hoke, but I try to not be a hypocrite. If Dantonio, Meyer, or Kelly did this we would laugh at it. It's not a big deal, but it's a little much.
Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

I relish the moments in life worth getting swept away. I cry when I hug my brothers at wrestling banquets after four years of sweating and bleeding together and I tear up on the couch next to my wife during romantic movies. I have no problem of other people see it differently, I just don't think it warrants criticism. It inspires me that Hoke sees his passion this way.

I hope no one here gave Rodriguez crap for the Groban disaster or Tebow crying or any other public displays of emotion.
Everyone else will give Hoke shit for this, and we'd do the same if Meyer's name was attached to it.
A grown man crying because he's trying to connect is much different than a grown man crying over the connection he's made. It's the difference between wanting something like a sniveling idiot and fighting for something with everything you have and being overwhelmed with a victory.
I'll let you be the judge of who meets the standard.
Most fans and media lauded Dick Vermeil for his public displays of emotion, and by all accounts his players liked it. I think this is in that category.
Playing a Josh Groban song at a banquet seems quite different to me. Just sayin.
Thank you, Coach Hoke, for bringing Michigan back.
Am I the only Michigander to see the funny here? But seriously....glad to have a RB aboard that could potentially re-write the Michigan record books. And I know that is excitement for today. But for his sake and to lend credibility to this young mans important life decision--let us not forget the rest of this recruiting class and the current players he will be joining that NO DOUBT played a HUGE part in helping him make that decision. Congrats Coach Hoke and Staff and Players for bringing the PRIDE back to UM Football!!! THANK YOU!!!
see Dick Vermeil and former N.C. State coach Chuck Amato. I've seen infants cry less.
"I'm not a vegetarian b/c I love animals. I'm a vegetarian b/c I hate plants"
There is a very good chance that Green has built a relationship with the Michigan coaches that is special to both sides. Special enough to warrant Hoke getting a little misty. Don't forget that Green was fully aware that UM regarded Isaac as their most wanted RB at one point. After Ty committed to USC, I would have bet the farm that we had no shot at getting Green either. So for them to show him the kind of respect and attention that would lead to him committing today, it's not all that surprising to me. Again, I doubt he wept, but he seems like a very passionate guy. Not all that surprising.
Also remember that a lot of people watched his decision and Green's speech. Future recruits will know that this Hoke guy is for real and he cares about his players. Parents will definitely like this out of a HC.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.
I'm just happy he survived. I didn't think he would get out of the first round.
Hoke is a real man, and real men cry sometimes. He is an exceptional worker and obviously has a strong passion that shows through his commitment to these players and their families. This post makes me proud
Ever notice how everytime ND upgrades their stadium, it still looks like the Big House? The 2015 artist rendering is no different...Go Blue
So it's passion when Hoke cries, but jokes and comedic material when Tebow or Rodriguez cry? This isn't an attack on Hoke, just pointing out a potential double standard.
HAIL.
It's a little wierd, but I don't mind it. I have a feeling Hoke gives those inside the program quite a bit more than we see on TV and in interviews. I've heard him say before he's an emotional guy, but I rarely see it. He's quite calm and under control on the sidelines and during interviews. His sideline demeanor is quite different from Rich Rod who would frequently lose his cool and yell at players, coaches, and refs alike. Sometimes I think in a press conference Hoke is about to drop his guard and get emotional over a player or a win etc., then he doesn't. So, it's hard to tell if he was acutally beginning to show emotion and stopped himself or if I misread what I was seeing. Anyways, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's much more emotional behind closed doors with the guys than he lets the rest of us see.
Strength equipment is expensive and guarantees you nothing. A strong will is free and can give you everything you want.
Do you realize that happiness makes you cry?
And when we play as a team, when the old season is over, you and I know it’s going to be Michigan again. Michigan!
First off, Green is from New York. So technically he is not from the south.
Secondly, Hoke said at his first press conference that he doesn't have a son, so the player are his sons, all 115 of them. Hoke cares very much for these kids. You don't know if he was bawling or not, so take it easy.
I don't care about anything other then beating ohio regularly and making the rosé bowl our second home.
Welcome Mr. Green
There is god, there is family, and then there is MICHIGAN FOOTBALL
I cried like a baby when my daughter was born, when we took her off to college, when my parents died, and I'll get choked up at the occasional movie. I just don't believe that an 18-year old who hasn't spent a minute in Ann Arbor as a student or UM player warrants tears. I was totally OK with Hoke's display of emotion at his introductory presser; he's got a long relationship with UM. I also had no problem with RR's emotion at the press conference when he responded to Rosenberg and Snyder's allegations that he was running an abusive sweatshop. Of course, that was comedy gold for plenty of people here who made endless fun of RR for crying in that circumstance.
Must we demand that others behave and act the way we want them to?
Let Hoke be Hoke, he is genuine and that is a big part of his appeal to recruits and players and parents and alumni n fans. Celebrate that we have a man in charge of our football team and not a plastic phony like Saban!
On a few occasions I came across Saban's Sunday MSU football recap show. I've never seen a stiffer, more awkward, emotionless, colder fish on TV than Nick Saban. He makes Dantonio seem friendly.
"Well, George...I think the problem was....we played...like little bitches today....next...."
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
According to Derrick Green, Hoke cried while accepting his commitment. This was an interpretation over the phone. And now the anecdote is picking up steam on television and espn.com. That's fine. And, because I care to try to avoid the Fundamental Attribution Error, and because I don't find sentimentality pathetic to care anyway, I'm not inclined to judge what a man cries about. But I do care about truth (and to struggle and equivocate before making decisions). And I'm not yet convinced that this even happened.
With the little knowledge I so far have of the anecdote, it seems additionally conceivable that Hoke is an exuberant fellow and responded with the type of emotion that might be honestly misinterpreted as crying.
"I have long thought that anyone who does not regularly - or ever - gaze up and see the wonder and glory of a dark night sky filled with countless stars loses a sense of their fundamental connectedness to the universe."

sometimes this blog makes me laugh so hard. She just gives me the look...anyone with me?
