Hoke was Plan A

A quote from the article:
Brandon insisted Hoke was always Plan A. What about Miles or Jim Harbaugh, who left Stanford for the NFL's San Francisco 49ers?

"The job was never offered to them," Brandon said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We did have different discussions with them that were helpful and positive."

This doesn't seem plausible. It sounds like something he is forced to say to show complete confidence in the new coach.

On the other hand, would Brandon actually lie to the media like that?

There were reports that neither was offered, so it is starting to make sense...

Regardless, he is our coach and we should be all in for Hoke and Michigan.

if you believe brandon, then o.j. has always been innocent, the u.s. government plotted against the world trade center and cam newton had no knowledge of being sold to the highest bidder. what a crock of shit.

Finally starting to accept the new hire. My only hope is the basketball on grass comment was made because he didn't have a PG like denard. Kind of like how I think guys in yellow Ferrari's are dicks until the day I am driving around in one. DB had to ask him if he could work with current roster and win. Right?

I think he's trying to get off on a technicality. I'm sure he discussed a lot of hypotheticals with LM and JH.
If this is actually true, it's even more damning.

This maybe be true due to him telling partial truths.... see the possible examples below:

DB: Hello JH, You interestest in coaching at Michigan?

JH: Nay, i am staying in Cali.

DB: How about the weather out here, gotta go!

DB: Whats up Mad hatter, you want to be the next coach at michigan?

LM: I dont think so.

DB: Did you really do Moe's wife?

There is the distint possibility he gauged wheather eah would take the job, and didnt officially offer the job.... knowing that they would not acept, thus he can claim Hoke was the only one offered. Not lying but not the full truth either.

Two scenarios:

1 Brandon offered Les and JH and is covering his butt. Makes me lose respect for him

2 Brandons #1 guy was Hoke and he never even offered JH or LM

Either way I'm pissed and losing respect for DB.

It is not possible that the athletic director at Michigan had Brady Freaking Hoke as his first choice. I refuse to believe this is a possible scenario.

He had previously said he was too busy to follow all the media reports. Now he's saying he was laughing at them? Which was it, Dave? Sounds like BS to me.

This is the most plausible scenario. I'm not saying it makes sense as to why, but I do think BH was the main aim. If he weren't why would his name have come up with Harbaugh and Miles? One of those kids is doing his own thing, you know?

I don't know why DB would pretend otherwise b/c the base sure ain't placated, but I bet he did exactly what he set out to do.

Technically, both Harbaugh and Miles could have said in their interviews that they didn't want the job. Hence DB never technically offered them the job

I don't even think Harbaugh took our phone calls. I imagined the meeting with Les being more like, "Would you come for $3MM?" "No." "Well, it's been great seeing you and Kathy. Give my best to the kids."

In other words, I somehow think the talks were perfunctory, not truly designed to hire either of them.

I agree that those interviews were meaningless but it seems like a puric victory used to appease the alleged factions of the michigan base. All the while sacrificing our national "brand" nationally. Derp=me=repeated thoughts.

This is who DB wanted all along. I wish DB would have done this hire after the OSU game! Believe me, this did not appease the fan base with this fake search! It has harmed recruiting! Anyways, best of luck to Brady! I will be rooting for him and the tram, and I hope they do well!

kenneth lay said there was nothing wrong with enron right up to the point the media found he was full of shit and the stock dropped to $.04 a share. same principle

Holy crap I can post again. This process demonstrated exactly what's been wrong with Michigan - the thinking is too inside the box. In this case, it was more important to get someone who understands the school and culture than getting the best coaching candidate. I mean, yes we don't want to duplicate RR's mistakes (killed me that he treated the OSU and MSU games like any other game) but come on. This process was tainted with hindsight bias.

I would find it easier to buy that if we were sitting here just days after the Ohio State game. The way this search unfolded, at the time it unfolded, it doesn't look like it was Plan A. It was a double up the gap because you found yourself unable to hit that home run.

I think things were set for him to go after--and likely get--Harbaugh and that's why no decision was made until after Stanford's bowl game. Perhaps it was even a behind the scenes agreement they'd talk after the Orange Bowl. But Harbaugh's popularity blew up in the month between the end of the season and that date due to the massive number of openings in the NFL and the curb-stomping they put on VT.

Since the change had to be made by this point, and they knew they had to stick to a guy with Michigan ties after the RR experiment was deemed a "failure", they didn't have enough viable options out there. A theory goes that Brandon had to reach out to Miles to appease one of the factions out there that was never behind RR because they wanted Miles the last time and he was never in the discussion. Brandon made this overture without any serious offer, knowing all along that many of the anti-RR crowd would come home for any "Michigan Man" hire. Hence, Hoke was the next option when JH was no longer available.

If Hoke was plan A, then I feel we have been baited and switched. We were promised Harbaugh and now got Hoked. Time for DB to be pu on the line.

im starting to feel better about the hoke hire and i hope like hell he recruits well and wins, but if DB had hoke as plan A and never offerd JH i think i my hart would just stop beating.

i dont buy it for a second tho JH was target number 1 and he turned us down plain and simple.

but I'm all out for DB. If this was the plan then why wasnt this taken care of the day RR was fired. Why would we risk losing those recruits. DB is lying to cover his butt. Just more eveidense he is an idiot.
