and not bash any one particular person of your rivalry. To me it's just fine to say you hate OSU but don't jump on one guy and pile on. I'm not gonna look to far into the fact he said Tressel was a good man and not just a good coach because that might just be his standard complement to someone. I would have liked to have seen maybe a back-handed complement to Boren's "not a family" comment about us. Could be something along the lines of "I think Tressel is a good man but I hope with the drug trafficing investigations and a coach asked to keep silent about any situations that may arise, that the parents of the players feel good about the state of affairs at the university."

Has the whole world gone CRAZY!?!

Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass about what Brady Hoke says about Jim Tressel, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Afghanistan situation, Canada, or Alzheimer's research.  He's a football coach, and hopefully he's a good one.  If he can raise a little bit of money for Mott Children's Hospital and do a few other good deeds on the side, then good for him.

Let's not put the head football coach on a pedestal where he has to be a spokesman for his counterparts, the world, etc.  He's not running for President.

Hey, remember when Tressel came out and supported Michigan after the Freep story broke? Like it or not, most coaches likely have a lot of respect and might even be friends with each other, no matter what schools they coach for. In another world, Hoke and Tressel might have been working on the same staff and good friends.

Of course, this doesn't apply to Saban. I don't know if any other coach in the world could stand him.

"No comment" would have been a stupid and churlish thing for Hoke to say.  I think Hoke handled this just right.

Hoke is on the precipice of saying something really bone-headed.  Something that would get him in trouble with the media.  While I don't think this instance is it, I think he needs to improve his public speaking.  He by no means needs to be a classic orator, but something better than what he exhibits now.

I think too many people on this board undermine the importance and good media etiquette.  I was thinking last night how bad JT was with the media - imagine if were BH up there in front of all those media vultures.   Yikes!

I expect him to run a clean program and hold everyone accountable. If he fails to do that, then yes, he may say something bone-headed. Other than that he seems like an upfront guy.

I am of a different opinion.  I believe off-the-cuff statements are much safer than carefully calculated statements.  They are usually more truthful, and are rarely dissected to the Nth degree.  A polished speaker is polished for a reason.  They are full of horsedung and they have to carefully craft their words to seem otherwise, and those carefully crafted words are deconstructed until the break of dawn. In this chaotic world full of unseemly pretzels and chainsaw lightswitches, good media etiquette is a devil's party, and Hoke's spontaneity is the sign of championship thighs.  He obviously defeats those earthworms with his words.  Keep talking with your heart, coach.

Hoke is on the precipice of saying something really bone-headed [cliche, becomes mixed metaphor ] [Something --cut and continue with "that"] that would get him in trouble with the media.  While I don't think this instance is it [what does  "it" refer to? something?  or, "that would get him in trouble"?] , I think he needs to improve his public speaking.  He by no means needs to be[come] a classic orator, but he needs to improve.

I think too many people on this board underestimate

let's face it, no one's going to be coming to Brady Hoke for brainy or cogent observations on such subjects EVER. If he succeeds it will be as the uncomplicated and utterly unegotesticle beloved and inspirational (etcetera) leader of our gritty gridiron squad(s). Thoughtful members of the jury are still out, and may be for some time. . .

take in, my tired friend. When Brady Hoke utters anything but a cliche, the heavens will crack open and serpents pour forth from them. Even the people who are geeked on him understand that.

As I recall, Tressel referred to Rich Rod as a good coach in his public statements and did not pile on with the Freepsters over stretching gate.

I think Tressel`s in trouble, deservedly, for lying to the media, hiding information from his AD and from the NCAA, and I hope that the NCAA holds him to a much stricter account than has his school.  Brady Hoke, however, handled the question as a fellow coach should handle it.  He expressed respect for Tressel and declined to comment on the the situation.  I'm fine with that.

It is Brady Hoke's job to not give any school, especially TSIO, any bulletin board material.  Since every reporter except Angelique is always trying to elicit controversy in every interview, this is no small feat.

This was a great job by Hoke and I expect to see more of the same in the future.  While Hoke is very media-friendly, and the media have treated him very well so far, don't think for a second that he doesn't know how fast the media will take controversy and run with it, often creating it out of thin air if there isn't any.

There will be no Dantonio-isms coming out of Ann Arbor.

Until the guy starts getting crushed by our conference on a consistent basis, let's give him the benefit of the doubt.  I get the impression that pro-RRs are saying "what the hell??? why would RR have been ripped for something like this and Hoke gets a free pass?" Answer: The dude hasn't even played a game yet and has done everything else as well as possible.  If he puts out a mediocre product for 3 years, he will be more closely scrutinized for these things.
