Hoke for Tomorrow Has No Time

Submitted by Lordfoul on

Sorry to anyone that reads my stuff.  Life just didn't allow time to post today.  I may or may not get a post in later this week.  If I do I'll try to back it up with actual research and stuff (again, no promises).

In general though, I wasn't surprised by yesterday's outcome.  I was extremely glad to see Michigan play right at the level I expected actually.  At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see The Game be a matchup of two teams undefeated in the B1G.  Nerbraska (I think I like how it sounds better spelled that way) in Lincoln could be Michigan's bugaboo, but I think our defense is light-years better than theirs.

Sorry in advance for next week too.  Hospital folks in Savannah, GA insist on wisking me down there for an official visit, to wine and dine and otherwise try to convince me that I would be happy residing in a swamp in the deep south, all in an effort to sign my freshly minted MD sugar-mama (finishing residency) to a contract (who already was wined and dined herself).  I intend to let them try their very hardest and may miss some or all of the Illinois game as a result.  Of course if they really wanted to get me to like them they would set up an early dinner at a good sports bar!

In case I don't get the chance to say so later, stay safe and have a great Homecoming Week fellow Michigan fans!

Edit:  I have nothing against Savannah having never been there, nor the south as I lived 3 years in NC.  My wife loved Savannah.  I want a big (20+acres) piece of land and Savannah doesn't have much of that within commutable distance to downtown.  Plus South Haven is an option so there's that.  I'm sure I'll love visiting Savannah, but am pretty sure I wouldn't want to live there given the other option.

Nebraska is terrible this year.  I'm not kidding when I say they probably have the worst defense in the conference.

Nebraska is 9th in the conference in total defense. Only the Buckeyes, Northwestern and Indiana have bled more on defense overall.

We give up an average of 4.72 yards per play, whereas Nebraska gives up 5.10 yards on average.  For all that we've been through, this has amounted to 1,552 yards and 11 TDs, compared to Nebraska's surrender of 2,202 yards and 21 TDs. It amounts to an average of 311 yards per game  and for us and 367 yards for Nebraska.

If you remove Alabama, we've given up 1,128 yards and 7 TD, or 282 yards per game, which would make  us a solid second in the conference behind only the folks in East Lansing. Subtracting the Alabama game from scoring defense, we are left with 64 points allowed, or an average of 16 per game, which would be a tie for second in the Big Ten.

Nebraska's D is indeed craptacular. I think Michigan's chances in Lincoln are looking better and better. Biggest thing is probably maintaining the focus and intensity after destroying Sparty - and I think we will, indeed, do that. #133RoadWarriors and all that.

The other thing about Nebraska's terrible D is wtf is with all the Buckeye bandwagoning. Rittenberg over at the Worldwide Leader practically had a buckgasm gushing all over Ohio after they steamrolled the Huskers at home. Come on. This is the same Huskers team that gave up 650 yards to UCLA. Are we seriously supposed to forgot Ohio's poor performances just because they managed to run through a godawful defense?

Yeah, but who's going to expose them?  MSU kind of did, but their putrid offense kept them from winning  (which was good for us, I know).  PSU and UM seem to be only ones left with any semblance of a team that has a good enough defense with a good enough offense to beat them.  The buckeyes remind me a bit of the 2010 UM team: great offense, terrible defense.  But unlike 2010, there will be no 11 win teams that they have to play to expose them.  In 2010, UM played three teams that one 11 games, as well as three BCS teams.  But Ohio in that schedule and no one thinks they're a top-10 team.

Most programs don't invite you twice, let alone invite your spouse/significant other for a visit. That's usually reserved for residents you are recruiting to be future faculty. Actually, all this sounds like it is being done outside the match.

One of the things that will and should come up at the dinner is his employment opportunities in the area. If they want her this badly, they should be able to help him find work as well.

Actually Augusta offered and for more money, but my wife really didn't like the hospital or city much for some reason.  Too bad because I love me some disc golf and Augusta has some sweet courses.  Land is great there too.

Yes, she technically has been an MD for a couple of years.  I still consider her newly minted though, as the $$$ has yet to roll in to cover the big loans on our heads.  Residency is almost over and soon I should be able to leave this Chemist career behind to follow my dream of being an Innkeep and part-time caterer.

And yes, she is quite easy on the eyes too.  That seems to help with the interviews.

"... try to convince me that I would be happy residing in a swamp in the deep south ..."

If I may ask (OP), where are you currently located?

Savannah is (IMO, anyway) a pretty nice place on most scales.

Has to be in easily commutable distance to the hospital, in this case downtown Savannah.

Our other option is South Haven where there is lots of great land cheap and obvious benefits as far as attending Michigan sporting events.

Currently we are in south-central PA.  Don't really like it here.  It is beautiful country but the people are a bit uptight for my taste.

Dude, what's so bad about Savannah? Open container laws in the downtown area. Ton's of history. Great downtown. warm weather (altough hot and humid as hell)... beaches. Many good times in Savannah.

Looking at our schedule it looks like our two toughest games are at home against MSU and on the road at OSU! Only reason MSU could be tough is the pressure that may be on the team to finally beat MSU at home.

If we can bash MSU's defense and make them pay for stacking the box, we will get some big plays that will break sparties back.

OSU has the potential for a good defense, though I think our defense is better and will improve through the B1G season.

I'm starting to think we will turn the table here and go undefeated in the B1G. At the start of the season I had thought we would lose 2 to 3 B1G games, but teams I thought may have been good are considerably worse!!!!

I'm still most concerned with the Sparty game.  Sports are such a mental thing at this level.

Sparty will sell out to stop the run.  Will the team be able to pass?  Will Borges try to pass too much or too little?  This is the biggest game of the year for me (it is usually 3rd or 4th on my list).
