Res ipsa loquitor:
I give you one vote for the video and one vote for using res ipsa.
Moving forward I'll try to keep the Latin de minimis.
That was great quote about changing the team's genetic makeup over the last couple of classes. It'll be nice to finally see some WRs and DBs that are over 6'0 tall and linemen that dont have to soak themselves in chipotle to get to a bloated playing weight of 295.
Once the roster genetics are altered and Gardner gets his redshirt, our system will officially be cleansed of that dark dark era of inexplicalby small "Big" East sized people.
"We got some big f'n dudes"
Inside Michigan Football Signing Day Special YouTube'd. It's joined in progress because there was no sound in the first 5 minutes of the mgoblue video.
Interesting at the end how he responded to the question asking about the no visits once committed policy. Rather than confirm it's the policy, he said that "every situation is a little different". And when asked if this was something Hoke should clarify, his response was a bit (understandably) frosty in my eyes. Coach Hoke said "Clarify, ... with whom? I think that would be a discussion between me and the recruits".
I don't blame him for cutting that line of questioning down (no point in having the press pin you down to a position that really is between the program and the recruits), but his acknowledgment that the policy is applied in light of the individual recruit's circumstances was good to hear.
I know Hoke is a defensive minded coach, but when questioned what he saw in Shane Morris as someone who could be a huge factor and leader for this class he sort of deffered the evaluation to Al Borges. Its not surprising that the OC would understand his offensive players better, but it made me wonder how much free reign Borges had as far as recruiting who he wants? Are we essentially grooming an offense that Hoke wants or one that Borges wants?
This isnt a concern just something that struck me..it may not even be unique but im curious what peoples thoughts on this are.
Coach Mattison does a lot of the recruiting for offensive players even though he is the DC. I have no doubts this entire coaching staff is on the same page and all want the same type of offense. That's evident to me in this class because it is made up of road-grader linemen, rhino RB's, and possession receivers on the offensive side of the ball. MANBALL.
I don't doubt that either. However, I think the point is that Hoke might allow Borges to do talent evaluations and set priority on recruits/positions. Once a board is made up of recruiting targets, it is split up to different sections of the country. That would make the most sense to me. I can also see why it would be a concern to allow Borges to decide who to recruit on offense, although, if he's not the one to decide that, then who is? I don't think that a "DL Coach" (as Hoke likes to call himself) is really the guy you want to be doing that either.
Fwiw, Coach Montgomery and Coach Hecklinski were Wilton Speight's primary recruiters.
Love how he addressed the recruit visit policy at the end. Also love how he continues to butcher pronouncing kids names. I get a kick out of it for some reason.
The question about Super Saturday (and a little bit into Sunday) last year brought back great memories of that day on this board, but I did like his answer about how getting recruits at that pace has much to do with the great job assistants and coordinators do as well as the sense of community and family that they've created within the program.
No expert but wasn’t there some political BS with a UF family/Booster trying to tell Urban who should play QB after Tebow?
I thought Hoke clearly confirmed that the coaching staff didn't place a lot of merit in the star system of the recruiting services. It was quite funny around the 12 minute mark how he referenced Kovaks, and how "He wasn't a star he was a moon". Hoke also really seemed to have a lot of confidence in Da'Mario Jones' ability, bodes well for the wr position.
What is he supposed to say? "Yeah, we wish we had more stars." Come on. And I really hate the tactic of singling out the one guy who is the exception. Why didn't he talk about JT Floyd getting burned all the time like his ranking out of HS suggested may happen?
Surrounding the recruiting of juniors. Great Answer! You can tell though that he will still compete and play the game on the trail but will not like it. NCAA is a complete joke at this point but rules are rules.
Vocal fry? She sounds hot.
Sounds like Chantel. She's a cutie.
will help coach Hoke bring Michigan back as one of the top 10 teams in the country. I think last year's class was ranked 7 in the country. Wow, two more years of top ten recruiting classes combined with this coaching staff will equal a lot of wins!
"We wanted to continue to enhance our tight ends." Tee hee. Tee hee.
