Hoke officially over .500

Brady Hoke officially has a record of 51 and 50 during  his coaching career.  Here are to those that criticized the hire and pointed out his losing record.  Brady Hoke is at the right place.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Ball State did what other teams have also done, declined playing Boise on their home blue turf in a bowl game.  Travel distance/expense was probably also a factor for a MAC school and its fans, not to mention Ball State getting dump-trucked by Buffalo in the MAC title game anyway.  Getting blasted in an away game with none of your fans in the stands isn't a great way to spend bowl season.

The fact that Hoke is working out very well so far is all to Hoke's credit, but those who criticized the hire at the time were right to do so.  The hire working out great and the hire deserving criticism at the time it happened are two totally separate issues.

When the Ohio job comes up this year, I guarantee that you will see a lot of big names on the candidate list.  Same with the UGA job.  The Michigan job should be held in as much esteem as any other job in the country.  The fact that it wasn't is squarely on David Brandon's shoulders.

David Brandon is extremely lucky that Brady Hoke has turned out to be such a high-quality coach.  So are we.  So is the program.  But it doesn't mean Brandon didn't deserve criticism when the hire was made.  Brady Hoke might get serious consideration for Coach of the Year if the season continues to go well.  And all of the credit goes to Hoke and his staff.

Ultimately, though, David Brandon stepped in shit and could end up smelling like the Rose Bowl.  That's good enough for me, but I am giving the credit to those who actually deserve it.

Doesn't mean very much, but still something nice to see.  For instance, his rebuilding years at Ball State clearly wrecked his record, but he has been fantastic in his last year there up to now and let's hope that momentum continues through the season.

I think he has a great chance to get another 5 wins this year so that record SHOULD keep improving down the line

This really is the point that I think Brian and others missed when they kept going on last winter about how 47-50 wasn't a good enough career record for a Michigan coach.

Since 2008, Hoke is 29-13. Go back another year and he's 36-19 over the last 4+ seasons. If his coaching career had only gone back that far, he'd have been an extremely hot commodity. It was the poor seasons from 2003-06, when he was first getting his feet wet as a head coach, that dragged his career record down.  Given that he went straight from being a positional coach to a head coach, growing pains probably should have been expected.  But by 2011, that wasn't very relevant anymore.

I'd rather wait until the end of the season when we're at least 9-4 before cracking open the champaigne on this stat.  There's still a lot of season left.

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

Not sure what the point of the post is. However I am excited to know he will never be at/blow .500 again!

Not just Hoke, but Michigan Football is also above .500 for our Home Games in the post-Lloyd Carr era!  I figure we were 22-22 during the RR era, and with Hoke being 4-0 at home, we are +4 now!  Yay to Home-Field-Advantage!!  Now if Hoke can just get us back above .500 in conference play we will be all set!  Let's Bash some Gophers this week!!
